I've liked many 2011 California/Oregon pinots I've had from well regarded producers. Mid bodied solid fruit not high in acid. Good juice that went well with appetizers. Drink over the next 1-3 years.

Fairly large scale Oregon Pinot Noir with black cherries and spice in the nose and initial flavors, good mouth feel, but moderate finish. This is a good Oregon Pinot that I would buy again and wish I have more bottles. Has a few years to go, but I don't think it will get much better.

Tasted at the winery and was much more impressed at that time. A lot more fruity than I remember. Drank right after opening so will give it another try after it has opened up.

Uh oh. A non-vineyard specific Penner. One might think this isn't up to snuff, but one would be wrong. This is a beautiful wine. A bit of clove, some nice ripe fruit of raspberry, cherry. Delicate, well balanced, medium finish. Burgundian in a big way. Fruit, yes. A hint of terroir. Those French would be proud. Sad to see it leave the decanter - drink this right now.

It tasted awful when I opened it-bitter, thin, unbalanced. I almost threw it out. After an hour it was terrific. Soft cherry, cloves, huge mouth feel, filled the mouth with flavor.

Initial aroma of black raspberry and perhaps blackberry. Some sweetness on the palate. A little acid and tannin. Impression is fruit, but not a fruit bomb. Drank with a mild gumbo and steamed broccollini. Color is fairly deep red with not much fade to the edge. Some menthol and a little toasted oak in the aroma. Much better after some palate cleansing with flatbread. Very soft on the palate. Some ground, black pepper appears in the nose after awhile.

Well, in my review of the 2010 I said the 2009 was my favorite and that the 2010 and 2011 were not worth the money. I have changed my mind or at least my buying habits, as I am buying a lot of the 2011. I did think the 2009 was better, but with limited choices available in my market, this wine (for around $40 with quantity discount) is one of my standby's. I still do prefer chateau montelena cab, but cannot find much of that locally either.
edit: Unfortunately the 2012 vintage is about 14.3% alcohol, so I won't be buying more of this wine soon, since the 2011 is all gone locally.
well, i slipped up. it seems the 2009 i liked was also well over 14% alcohol. So maybe the 2011 was unusually low in alcohol, which may explain why i drank the most of that and never got tired of it.
the 2012 alcohol level is actually slightly lower than the 2009.
Ok I tried the 2012 and I was not wrong to be wary of the 14+% alcohol as it was much too strong (not smooth - kick in the head) to be enjoyable by me, but my guests seemed to love it. I decanted it briefly but not nearly enough for me. I am again in search of the subtler 2011. In the meantime I also ordered several bottles of 2009 which were very enjoyable. More age? or a better wine? The 2012 is the first one I have not liked at all.

Purchased from a restaurant wine list, this medium ruby Pinot was serially tasted over a 2-3 hour period. Tart cherry, pickling spice and cola characterize both the nose and palate, with additional earth nuances. Light-to-medium-bodied, fresh, softly tannic and with well-integrated alcohol (13.3%), it unfortunately thins in the middle and is a bit terse on the finish. Short-term cellaring may be helpful with respect to filling in the center and the back end. Drink 2015-2018.

Tasted at Brix Midtown. Nose: Light to medium expressiveness, white pepper, cherry and raspberry. Palate: Medium bodied, tasty cherry attack, nice acid appearance mid-palate to balance out the fruit, unfortunately the flavor does a disappearing act thru the backend. Finish: Short with faint cherry and black pepper flavors.

PnP. No detailed notes. Started a little funky, but that blew off in 20-30 minutes. Smooth and rich. May be getting near the end.

Nose of plum jam, blackberry, and sassafras. Cola flavors lead to a plumy finish. Drink now through 2017.

Blackberry and black tea aromas lead to similar flavors. Big bodied with some tannic structure. Blackberry finish is warmed by some alcohol.
