South Africa WIMPS #175 27th March 2024 (La Trompette, Chiswick): Some venison carpaccio on the nose with some flecks of ginger and a little pickled walnut. Palate is peppery with some smoky sweet fruits and just a faint spritzy prickle on the tongue. Tannins a tad jagged if being picky.

Good balance of dark fruits like plum and blackberry as well as dark chocolate and wet leaves supported by high acidity. Very much alive with very good development. Can keep this wine 2-3 years more in the cellar for full development.

Deep garnet. Nose dominated by cedar, with some cassis and slight tobacco note. Full-bodied and well balanced, still a bit of fine-grained tannins. The palette gets dominated by a chocolaty note that I didn’t particularly enjoy, but overall it is an excellent wine. Drink or hold for upto another 2-3 years, there’s not all that much primary fruit left.

Delicious but not overly complex. Would be a real crowd pleaser, esp with food. I enjoy Boekenhoutskloof wines and increasingly think they should be drunk young.

Deep, dark, red colour with a slight brown tinge on the edge. Tight nose of liquorice and green pepper. Similar flavour with a touch of sous bois and cedar. Drinking nicely but probably towards the end of the drinking window or maybe has snuck past it.

Bordeaux Blends from Around the World Wine Tasting Presented by the Wine Commanders (Paradiso Restaurant, Athens, Greece): Wine of the night for me and another 12 attendees. Gorgeous nose of sweet blackberry, moccha, cedar, high quality oak, mint and perfectly integrated green scents. Full-bodied and round with soft tannins, rich but not overripe fruit and balancing acidity. Long aftertaste. Very enjoyable with great potential. Combines perfectly old world balance and refinement with new world richness and early drinkability.

Excellent wine! Very Bordeaux-like with judicious use of top quality oak, initially some animal notes, green peppers, smoke and mocha, cassis and cedar. Youthful but already complex and open nose. Very elegant on the palate, medium bodied with fine texture well managed tannins and a beautiful bitter aftertaste.
six nations tasting - (pyrmont wharf, sydney): medium minus aromas that are slightly funky and farty with notes of cream and slight leather. Chewy tannins. Hmm, bit advanced for a 2010 and not much fruit here

Boekenhoutskloof Winemakers dinner. (@ Bottles; Sas van Gent, Netherlands): Very youthful bouquet with minerals and metal as well as primary berries and cherries. Good acidity and sticky tannin. This wine needs another 5 - 6 years of ageing. So start around 2017 or 2018 with drinking this. Beautiful wine. 92+?
