  • Hefty Sangiovese aromas with some oak. Elegant, pure and delicate, almost airy, with plenty of fine tannins. Needs more time.

  • Beautiful wine but it needed tons of air (4+ hours in a decanter) for the potent acidity to soften a bit. The fruit is bluish and gorgeous and the wine is very fine and silky and has a long way to go to reach maturity. Really classy wine that's best with food. 94+

  • This was opened and decanted to follow the 2007. Perhaps that wasn't a good idea. It started out a little too cold and came across as rather acidic and insufficiently open and mature. With more time and higher temperature it became better but it is still early days, and the 2007 is clearly better now.

  • Pergole Torte Vertical tasting (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): Glass: Zalto Universal and Burgundy
    Tasted blind.
Clear, youthful deep ruby color. Fine, ethereal, herbaceous and a bit green nose.
Very fresh and tight. High acidity, high, ripe tannin. Very phenolic, great structure and elegance. Still very compact and dense. Needs 5+ years to unfold. Will be great for sure. 94++

  • 1-2 hour decant significantly helped this round out and gain balance. Tannins are resolved and provide soft structure. Full body and nice weight, despite the deceptively low (and welcome!) 13.5% ABV. Big bold dark fruits in nice harmony with a dusty character. Very nice finish. This seems to be just entering a wonderful drinking window with many great years ahead.

  • Opened and popured into a decanter. tasted and enjoyed using a Riedel Burgundy glass. Enjoyed with food (spaghettis with meatballs - Sunday gravy - and fried eggplant, in case you were wondering).
    Garnet color.
Nose offers black raspberries and hint of red clay. A nice floral note as well as some mushroom/earth notes.
Delicious ripe black raspberries and some cherry notes. Elegant and graceful, with the dark berries and floral notes singing in harmony.
Nice acidity to keep one going back for another sip.
    Outstanding.

Quality cork; branded with wine and vintage.

  • Fantastic nose of ripe forest berries, sophisticated liquor, vanilla and mint, undergrowth, fresh cherries. Wonderful bouquet, incredibly balanced, subtle sweetness, ripe berries with a fresh touch, lush, full and structured, leading to a long, elegant finish. This is one of the very best Sangiovese I’ve ever had, a perfect combination of freshness, sweetness, structure, aroma.

  • Opened, poured into a decanter, tasted, and then enjoyed with food over three hours. Used a Grassl Cru glass. (Food was NY strip steak with cauliflower spinach puree, in case you're wondering.)
    Ruby color.
Nose of cherry candy, flowers and dried orange peel.
    Lovely bouquet.
List and elegant. Dances across the palate. Has fresh acidity.
    So inviting.
    Delicious.

Saved a small amount in the bottle and tasted the following day.
A graceful and elegant wine with panoply of flavor.

  • An amazing nose that gave you great hopes for a superb wine - but when we tasted the wine we clearly got disappointed - in the beginning we did not get a lot of fruit but that clearly changed and we god raspberries, cranberries and unripped strawberries. The wine seems to be in a closed phase - but we still clearly se a lot of potential - medium plus tannins and acidity - good balance - we will start the rating with 92 - and we recommend to wait a bit before drinking this wine.

  • Doing this from memory so fewer detailed notes - and that is a shame because this is a beauty. Very little air time due to circumstances but even as coiled and tight as this was, it was still showing greatness. Abundant sour cherry, a solid acidic line, something like leather on the nose, burnt stalkiness. Exuded class and refinement right out of the gate. Right now needs a fair amount of air to show. Probably requires a few more years of sleep.
    Score : 94-96. Relative to expectations : ++

  • Subtle, stylish bouquet of raspberries, cherry candy, minerals. Weightless but intense palate, fresh cherries, more candies, subtle spices and minerals, refreshing acidity counterbalanced by light sweetness. Quite a long finish. There is something transparent, ethereal, similar to a Burgundy or an elegant Grenache. First night still a bit closed, second night more open. Requires another 4-5 years. The 2011 is more open for business at this stage.

  • Same bottle and impressions as Bob. More fruity than I expected and still fairly unevolved. Soft tannin. I enjoyed the nose and found it more interesting than on the palate at this point. I'd hold this for now.

  • Opened for dinner later today. Sweet & sour cherry fruit on a laser-focused nose.

That sweet & sour red fruit note carries through on the palate as well. I was a little concerned this might be too young, and it is still fairly primary, but the fruit here is pretty delicious, so this should be fine.

  • Set the bottle out at room temp at 3pm. Opened the bottle at 5pm. Poured into a decanter at 6:30pm. Served with dinner at 7:15pm.

The nose was beautiful with fruit, leather, herbs and minerals. Cherry and berries on the palate as a first impression with slight acidity. Tannin appeared to be fully integrated and as the wine rolled on the palate it became silky smooth. The finish was substantial and long.

This wine was perfect with our Veal Rib chops done medium rare, roasted mushrooms and herb enhanced baby potatoes.

This wine appeared to be at it fullest right now. Next time I think I will decant less and see if it shows longer staying power!

  • On first opening the bottle intense aromatics of sour cherry, red fruits, savory herbs and a dusty mineral tone. Two hours of decanting and consumed slowly over another three hours. Already in an excellent place this wine was still very primary and fruit forward with a touch of secondary characteristics, and the structure to potentially improve a point or two with additional cellar time. Floral, fruit, savory herbs, leather, stony minerality, complex and hitting on every level. Ripe red cherry, candied cherry almost like cherry Starburst on the nose, black cherry, sour cherry, strawberry, raspberry, ripe tomato, basil, leather, tobacco, baking spice. High acid and highly tannic, but exceptionally well integrated and silky. Continues to be one of the finest examples of Sangiovese.

  • Bottle completely corked. What a disgrace.

  • Pop and poured, too young and not enough time to open up. Lot of acidity , does need another 5 years or at least a lot of air

  • Medium ruby, lots of depth on the nose with red fruits, floral, herbs, dirt. The bright cherries full of fresh acidity on the palate lead to a hidden power behind the very fine tannins. Delicious

  • To me, red wine goes better with vegetables than white ones. So for my Busiata with spring onions, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, eggplants and capers, I opened this 10 Pergole Torte. Decanted for one hour before serving.
Very nice see-through redish-blue colour. Nose and palate of red cherries and raspberries with some sage, still quite primary though. Nice breadth to reach all corners of the mouth. Fruity finish. Many more points in years to come.

  • Medium-light garnet. Expressive nose of sour cherry, sweet spices, clay, flowers. Medium-light and elegant on the palate with present acidity and soft tannins. You can see the nand writing of Giulio Gambelli, Tuscani's legendary oenologist. This is very classic Sangiovese in style, an iconic wine of Chinati, ground zero fo the Chianti quality revolution. Nice, can add a point with age. Drink after 2018. Very good QPR too.

  • A week in Tuscany (and Lots of wines); 10/19/2015-10/21/2015 (Tuscany, Italy): At Osteria Le Logge in Sienna. Great food. 125 Euros off the list. This is young, but we had time, and let this air for a while. It did open and by the end of the bottle, was showing very well. I think there is still room to improve by a point or two. Ruby/purple in color. The nose is cherries, raspberries, dark cherries and sandalwood. Great texture. Silky yet powerful. Deep and tightly complex. Long finish. The last glass is the best. Wait ten years. If you go to this restaurant, ask for a tour of the cellars. Across and under the street. Very cool!

  • L.A.W. Tasting: Brunello, Barolo, Super Tuscan, and Bordeaux (LA Hutchinson Cocktail and Grill): Nose of floral and red fruit with a bit of tar and underbrush. Pure palate of cherry fruit. Some of the intensity has fallen off and this has become a much more graceful wine. Excellent acid. Perhaps a little less delineated, but even a bit off its game and it's still tremendous.

  • This had a nice full-bodied flavor. Good raspberry flavor, tannins were at a nice level. I've had chianti that's just as good for 1/4 the price, but this was also good.

  • Dark red color. Drank 1 glass over 15 minutes. This was very good, earthy, black raspberry, anise on the nose. The palate shows kirsch, licorice, raspberry liqueur, medium full body, fine tannins, spice.

  • Ruby colour -correct colour. Amazing perfume on the nose, fragrant red fruits. The palate is still tight but you can see the greatness here - cherry, earth, liquorice and a bit of cherry liqueur. Great finesse. This is what great Sangiovese is about. I would describe this as a cross between a top chianti and a top brunello, but somehow better than both. 94++

  • Pretty impenetrable at this early stage even after a three hour slo-ox and a two hour decant. Snappy red and black fruits, tobacco and earth on the nose, some decent strawberry and blackberry on the palate but its all about structure at the moment with prominent acid and tannin suggesting that this needs to left alone for at least a decade and likely more.

  • Nose of tar and earth. Palate shows reticent fruits of blackberry and plum to go with licorice, tar, fresh earth, but for all it's brooding it's still more precise and linear wine than the '09. Tremendous power and structure. Medium to full bodied. Medium but firm acid. Firm but very fine tannin with a lot of grip. It's brooding and showing exceptional balance. This is certainly a hold with tremendously long aging potential much more than the prior two vintages. Not nearly as showy as the 2009, but more power.

  • Ruby. Licorice, volatile acidity and black fruit-smells very Italian! Compared to the fluid, forward nature of the 2009, this is lean and grippy, not displaying much fruit at all. It also has an unpleasant, unclean aftertaste that makes me wonder if there was any rot taint. At any rate, not as good as either of the preceding 2 vintages that were poured.
