Cork disintegrated, don’t even try with a screw use a cork fork. Had to strain the wine, but it was beautiful and elegant, fruit had taken a back seat to earth and oak spice but was still present. Dry finish but fully resolved tannins. This wine sure does deliver!

Allowed to breathe in glass 1 hour. Clear deep garnet color. Lovely bouquet of sweet, dusty dried blackberries, lavender, fennel, mocha, bourbon vanilla, sweet spicy oak. Similar on the palate, full body, seamless, balanced, velvet mouthfeel, lingering finish. Another example of a great wine in a difficult vintage from a legendary producer that was unjustly out of favor with the critics at the time.

One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Some sediment in screen. During decant lovely (but not overpowering) aromas of dark fruit compote arose. After resting, nose was: blackberry, plums, and bing cherries. Some buttered toast as well. In the mouth, wine was a subtle mix of the above fruits; well balanced; an easy drink from the first sip to the last one which was quite long and pleasant. A great wine.

Allowed to breathe in glass 2 hours. Clear deep dark garnet color. Lovely bouquet of sweet dusty blackberries, black cherries, blackcurrants and their liqueurs; fennel, forest floor, nutmeg, cardamom, bourbon vanilla, spicy oak, hints of eucalyptus and black olive tapenade. Similar on the palate, full body, seamless, beautiful balance, lingering finish. Improved with air. Classic Napa cabernet, now in its prime, where it will remain for years. 2000 was judged at the time to be a poor vintage for Napa cabernet and also a vintage in which BV was affected by TCA taint. Based on this bottle, neither of those concerns was warranted.

Classic attractive mature cabernet nose of book leather and mint, still fresh and soft. Palate begins with fresh fruit and acidity for the age but there's surprisingly little fruit on the mid-palate and it finishes a bit short and green.

In Ocean City with Dad, slow oxed this for about 45 minutes, drank over 2 hours.
Core garnet color still vibrant, some separation at the edges. Nose was expressive and elegant, notes of dark berries. Palate showed dusted cherry, currant, leather, floral and graphite notes. Medium weight and finish. Smooth and silky mouthfeel.
Evolved a bit in the glass over the time I had it. Nicely aged BV drinking at full maturity now. Should be Ok at this level for a bit, squarely in its secondary phase.

We had a vertical of 1996, 1000, 2003, and 2008 with prime rib. The 2000 was the wine of the night. The 1996 and 2003 were showing their age. The 2008 was, well, a 2008. The 2000 drank great, nicely absent of acidity while dark fruits were in an moderate but elegantly pleasant quantity.

Outstanding wine, everything you would expect from a Georges De Latour. Medium fruit with a hint of leather and a great finish. Decanted for 3 hours. It paired well with hanger steak. Savored every sip. Has plenty of life left, so no hurry to drink.

PnP w/15 min decant. Clear, deep red/purple color. Nice proper nose. This bottle was aged in a proper cellar and drank superbly. Med body, perfect balance, still plenty left to go and will hold for years yet. Integrated tannins, fine long finish. Absolutely nothing off and in perfect drinking window. No sign at all of being over the top.

This was a nice treat as I don't get a whole lot of wines with any sort of aging. I'll combine the thoughts of our tasting group. Close to three hours in the decanter showed a great dark inky color, no bricking. On the nose you could smell the age, Loads of dark fruits (raisiny, currants), some vanilla, cedar and spice. Still some noticeable tannin but not overwhelming at all, really gave the wine some great structure. For me this was fun to see the fruit move more from the front of the palatte to the mid-palette and give way to some of those secondary flavors. The finish didnt seem to linger but no one seemed to notice or care. Found this on closeout for 25 bucks and took a gamble and glad I did. To me this still had plenty of stuffing. Its drinking well now but I don't see it slowing down for a couple of years.

This wine amazes me. I have gone through a case over the last 7 years. Loads of currant and the leather and tobacco is not as prevalent. Maybe it is just me, but I have recently tasted the '02, '04 and '05 BV GDL's and the amount of currant is mind blowing. In my note from 2/19/11 I stated that this wine should be consumed, but after last night I am not so sure. There seemed to be a lot left. I have a glass left over that I will drink tonight.

Really great. Was afraid that this "off" vintage might not have aged well. I needn't have worried. Still lots of life left. Great fragrant nose and well balanced palate. Loved it. Popped and poured. Got better as the night went on, but no decanting is necessary. Served with a venison with pan sauce, which was perfect. Wish I had a case of this. Sadly it was my only one.

The nose had classic deep red napa fruit and terroir underneath an unpleasant cellar funk. That funk would blow away a bit with a swirl, revealing brighter red fruit notes.
In the mouth I could tell this was once a good wine and well built. But the wine just hadn't lasted and was declining. Like a grand old mansion outside Detroit, long abandoned and falling to pieces.

Wow. Popped and poured at restaurant, the waiter asked if I wanted it decanted and I told her to pour me a taste, I told her it didn't need it. Pretty much a flawless bottle of wine. I can still taste the finish after a couple of hours and another bottle of wine. I have one bottle left, will give it at least another year in the cellar.

Not sure what the other people's bottles tasted like, but this was perhaps the best Napa Cabernet I've ever tasted. Took about 20 mins after opening the Merlot/green peppery nose to decant off. After that it was excellent to the last drop with a highly complex nose and nice round fruit and spice on the palate. Perfect with the meal we had. I wish I had a case left.

For a wine that is 11 years old and from an off-vintage, this wine was fantastic. I drank it alongside a 2003 Paloma Merlot and a 2003 Chateau Coufran (Magnum), and I thought it blew the other two wines away. I have gone through 11 out of 12 bottles of this wine and it still tastes great; although I would not encourage people to hold onto this wine into the future. It is not going to get any better. Very well integrated smooth tasting wine with some fruit and Rutherford dust.

I believe I am rating this higher than most because this wine is exactly the flavor profile I remember from my youth. It was a 67 BV Private Reserve that introduced me to the world of fine wine, and this 2000 brings me back. The tannins are subdued, the palate is of currants and, reminds me of biting into a red apple. VERY juicy but, a bit thin. At any rate had the wine been more robust I would have scored it much higher.

Agree with some of the previous notes that it lacks a bit of fruit, but does have some great chocolate, spice, vanilla and oak flavors. A little astringent in mid palate and a moderate finish. Smells of earth, herb and oak and a hint of cherry. Overall, found it to be a very enjoyable wine and wish I had a few more bottles.

Opened this at exactly 8 years of age, and it raised the same frustration that other premium Napa Cabs have given me over the years. Yes, it had the mellow, caramelized, brandied qualities that one expects from an older wine, but these qualities were nevertheless quite faded. Overall, it was thin, superficial, and undramatic, having lost any level of extraction, depth, and tannic structure it may have had a few years ago. The wine was sourced from a reputable retailer, and had been stored in a temperature-controlled wine cabinet since purchase.

BV Georges de Latour Vertical (Zoe): A pretty decent bottle of wine for the vintage. You can bet it took some work to even get it this good. Still, taken out of the context of 2000 it's a mediocre bottle of wine of best. There is some fruit there (cassis), but it seemed just shy of ripeness with the predominant flavors being herbs, cocoa and bell peppers. The gambit here seems to be to move the secondary flavors to the fore to make up for the lack of real fruit and they almost pull it off. In the end, it's a bit to thin, lacks any substance in the mouth and finishes a touch to astringent to make it worthwhile.

Another tough year for BV, and Napa valley in general. Better in structure and depth than the 98, and better by a long shot than the 2001, this wine was moderate in quality, and not worth what I paid for it, but alas, GDL had been so reliable for so long. Tasted as part of a 6 bottle vertical (96-01).

Good colour; quite a subdued almost subtle nose with hints of mint, cassis and chocolate. Smooth, rounded and velvety in the mouth with sweet fruit. Soft, fine grained tannin still evident on the finish. Moderate length. Quite classy without being showy. Tastes as if the Cab Sauv has been softened with some Merlot. Bottle at Ray Q's.

Tasted this wine at the Geyser Peak Blind Tasting Challenge. Basically an American oak-sicle. Loaded with flavors and aromas of coconut, shoe polish, acetone, and baking chocolate. The heavy-handed wood treatment mars a splendidly rich and smooth wine.

More substantial than the Tapestry with firm tannins. Still not as good as prior years. 88.

Flowery on nose. Aftertaste of violets. Lots of violets.
