Still deep ruby, pronounced nose of black fruits, herbs, and animal. Palate showing mostly primary notes still, ripe dark and black fruits, cassis, black currants, plum skins, leather, clove and black pepper. Tannins have begun to resolve, fruit is starting to mellow out, this was in a pretty good spot tonight, but I think this is still 3-5 years from its peak as it could still get more complex. A very nice Bordeaux and at its current value this is pretty good! 90-91

Lovely claret. I can see why the guy from wine berserkers with the funny hat is into these. High acidity, low alcohol, smooth tannins, not crazy fruity or sweet but well balanced.
This drank very well, including right out of the bottle. Nice balance with berry fruit and a very light touch of savory pepper and earthiness in a mid-weight wine. Tannins were moderate and suggest this could go much longer.
very good - decent depth and punchy blackfruit with med-high acidity maintaining its freshness. Good on its own but better with the steak it was served with. This was opened alongside a Meyney 1996 and Ch Cordet 2012 and all three were a pleasure.
Drinking well at the moment. Pretty bouquet. Little bit of sour cherry notes, some nice acidity as well. A nice wine if you can still find it reasonably priced.

Attractive classic left bank Bordeaux nose of cassis and graphite. Supple, medium bodied with cassis, graphite and tar, fine to medium-bodied tannins, fine acidity woven in, decent length. Drinking well at the moment, went wonderfully with a fish stew and rice. 13% ABV.
Mature nose of ripe black currant, chocolate and toasty French oak. Medium-full bodied, this is mouth-filling, round and generous with flavors of ripe black currants and blackberry, vanilla, toasted oak, laurel and thyme as well as hints of cigar box. Excellent salinity on the long finish. This is really quite good and probably at full maturity, but will last close to a decade longer. Drink now-2030. 92

This was open and ready to go with minimal air. Consistent with the last few notes on here. Savory, herbal Medoc, but I did not find this lean at all, good texture. Continued earthy, a bit medicinal, with blackcurrant and blackberry fruit in a supporting role. In a great spot, likely drinking well for the rest of the decade, but no need to wait.

This was really fabulous. The nose is quintessential left bank, with green pepper and some spearmint. Herbs like eucalyptus waft in on a big nose. It is wide open aromatically, really fragrant and classic. The palate lacks in density and weight but it does have some vanillin and blackcurrant notes. Medium length finish is more clipped than I’d like, but this is 90% of the way to Calon Segur.
Great QPR for a Bordeaux that has legs to age here. Nice fruit but also some secondsry and tertiary bites developing/ed. not sure she will benefit my palate but it may I prove it for yours if you want less fruit and more mushroom and wet leaves.

Blind tasting Deep ruby with some black overtones. No rim clearing Aromatics medium +. I found no new oak. Pyrazines including jalapeño, followed by black plum and rocks. Palate has medium + body. Acid medium +. Tannins medium +. medium grained all over the mouth. Alcohol medium. Black cherry, dark currants, with a green note at the end. Finish has a medium length. Balanced Dry glass notes of pencil lead I guessed a cab franc from the Loire, 2017. Never got the new oak, but apparently 90%. Certainly the oak has fully integrated in 10 years I felt it drinks well now, but has potential for further aging

Dark ruby color - nearly opaque with minimal clearing at the rim Medium plus aromas of currant/ plum/ red and black - rich cocoa powder and hints of jalapeño with wet rocks and developed by an amazingly well integrated new oak structure - classic and gorgeous Medium plus to full bodied with palate of red and black fruit and graphite with oak spices Medium plus tannins and medium plus acidity with medium alcohol - Beautifully balanced Just a great Bordeaux - not a showstopper by any means but so well made Drinking great now but could go for another 10 years - no need to wait IMO

Fabulous classic Claret with blackcurrant and green pepper. It’s a lovely wine that should offer consistent drinking for a long time. Lacking the concentration of a great classified growth, but not the nuance of terroir. Well balanced and a great one to be holding for the type of night where you just need something reliable.

Opened with funk, leather and earthy notes. Took a solid two hours after opening to come around. Oak, integrated tannins, minimal fruit and medium finish still very dry in my opinion.
Wine is well intergrated but has life left in the tank. Lacking complexity but nice wine overall.
This bottle was far better than the 2014 Château de Pez enjoyed earlier with dinner. Medium plus body, clear, deep ruby color. Medium plus aromas of black currant, blackberry, black cherry, black coffee, chocolate, underscored with plowed dark earth. Good fruit concentration, with oak, tannin, and acidity seeking equilibrium and integration. Strong finish. In development, with enough power to support another 5-8 years of cellaring. A solid Left Bank Bordeaux.

Followed over 2 days. A proper claret, classically styled, with some of the green leafy tobacco notes and higher extraction, darkened fruit profile I associate with 2012. I rather like this vintage and almost always enjoy Sociando.
Mature Bordeaux can be so lovely, even if its not the super premium classified stuff. This is drinking well, maybe a bit lean/thin. Otherwise its classic Bordeaux with leather, cassis, some cedar and a few green notes. Very good, but just short of 90 points.

Decanted for 2 hours. Cassis and oak on the nose. On the palate there are obvious dry notes of oak, cassis, pencil, leather and some notes of perhaps bell-pepper. Fairly short but improving in the glass and with food. Had it with sirloin steak and bearnaise. Overall a CS inspired Bordeaux of acceptable quality. A bit shorter and less rich than expected at this medium price level, but definitely ok.

Never disappointed from Sociando estate. I always get this complex bouquet of balsamic aromas, liquorice herbs and spice, polar mint and a hint of smokiness. Even from a suboptimal vintage, this wine is still a treat. Though, I’ve had Sociando from the 2005, 2000 and 1996 vintages and this is definitely not as impressive. On the palate, it does not disappoint, but there also is a bitter aftertaste that can be repulsive for some people. I recommend at least an hour in the decanter and a food pairing to enjoy this wine at its full potential. Ready to drink now, probably won’t get better with time.

Deep cassis, leather, old books on the nose. Palate with a quick burst of fruit and savoriness which drops off quickly. Tannins are remarkably well integrated but not backed up by enough body. Still very enjoyable.

Blend has more Merlot than most left bank wines which gives it a softer, more feminine quality. This will never be profound and I wish it had a little more length, but it’s a pleasant everyday Bordeaux that’s good now with a decant and will continue to improve for five to ten years.
Had in a lineup of ‘12.’10, ‘07. Still a little clinched. Rather shy nose with some toast notes. Black fruited with coarse tannins. Rustic. Has nice bones but needs some time.

Not vy bordeaux-ish on the nose as we got tones that implied a less controlled wine making...Lots of yeast and acidity which disappeared after quite a few hours in decanter. Palate gave away the cab sauv majority and it all delivered a quite nice bordeaux-feeling. Ok to drink now and a pleasant wine for a cote de boeuf dinner

Popped and poured. Medium ruby color. Nose of cocoa dusted raspberry, black cherry, cedar cigar box, violet. Very nice. Similar flavors on the palate with a fresh and juicy red fruit profile. Not overly complex but nicely balanced. Medium acid and tannins. Probably will continue to drink well for several years but definitely enjoyable now, with or without food.

Dark red, with no indication of age. Nose with lead, black currant, coffee, and leather. On the palate, it is youthful and green. Still appears young and somewhat tight. Recovers after hours of air, but is not very pronounced and open. Bottle two of three. Unsure if this will ever come around.
Get your Old School Bordeaux right here! If blackcurrant, assorted peppers, gravel, root vegetables, discarded railroad tie (overgrown by mushrooms and moss), sous-bois, black earth, drying tobacco, and funk float your boat, then this is guaranteed to satisfy. If fruit, extraction, oak, and alcohol is your thing, look elsewhere.
Open for business and wholly delightful on the second day. The third day offered insight into the wine's likely evolution after another seven+ years.
Delivering medium plus acid and medium, burly tannins, likely to last through 2035+. This vintage has a similar reputation to 2008, and both, provide look backs to the Bordeaux of yesteryear. A gem, worth seeking out.
Easy to like, quite forward on the nose, more balanced on the palate and actually a little restrained, even strict finish. Should stay in the cellar for a few more years or be enjoyed in the general context of a porterhouse steak or such.

This is probably the youngest S-M which I have drunk with a meal. I have mostly first approached them round the 20 year mark. However, 2012 is mostly an approachable vintage in Bordeaux, so I took the plunge. The bouquet on the nose was a bit shy at first but the palate was open for business showing medium+ body, savoury fruit, graphite, earthy minerals, some generosity and still firm but quite ripe tannins on the finish. This last earned the comment "rough" from across the table but I felt they contributed indispensable structure. Room for more beneficial development but very good already.
Deep red. Intense, relatively youthful blackberry, cedar and lead pencil on the nose. Maybe a touch of green but for me nothing too detracting especially at this price point. Sometimes I wonder how much vintage preconceptions colour people’s notes. The palate is cool and even with gentle red toned fruit and grippy tannins. Drinking well now, not sure if it’s one for the long term but for me no rush to drink either.

This wine tonight was very pleasant pop and pour but even better 3 hours later opened up in the glass. Looks and smells great in the glass. 13% alc. Lovely mixture of ripe red and some black fruits. Restrained oak and good balanced tannin with a lovely consistent finish. Merlot lends some ripe red plums and cab franc lovely bouquet. Such a poised wine you can drink now (decant 2hrs) or cellar. Good value for a top notch St Estephe.

Dark in color, with good concentration of flavor, this blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc produced an herb tinged, peppery, earthy, leafy, herb and cassis filled, classically styled wine that will need time to soft and come together.

Deep cassis, leather, old books on the nose. Palate with a quick burst of fruit and savoriness which drops off quickly. Tannins are remarkably well integrated but not backed up by enough body. Still very enjoyable.

Exemple parfait de over hype. « Dégustation avec le 2004 » Pour 70$ ce 2012 est pas très au coursnt qu’il doit performer. Éblouir.
Une chance que j’avais apporté une bouteille de barollo Franck 100% cab franc à 26$ pour boire avant ces 2 déceptions.
Par contre à 25$ ça passerait, le sociandoooo mallet ;)
Mallet. Petit frère de mal? Lol

Decanted for an hour. Medium body and fruity, smoke, earthy and tobacco. Drinking well now. But it is young. Better wait more years.

Tasted over three days.

Haven't had Sociando-Mallet in a long time, my last vintage documented on CT was 1999.
3h decant, absolutely recommended and it further improved while drinking as well.
Deep red-purple colour. On the palate cherries, graphite, oak, lots of tannins and something ethereous (eucalyptus, mint?) as well. Long finish.
Top Haut-Medoc once again, lovely old world style. Could well gain 1-2 points in the next two decades, but very enjyoable already if decanted. 90+ P

Difficult to understand, there is a lot of wine between the bouquet with inky elements and the quite long finish; noticable tannins (but will ripen).
Give this wine at least 3-4 years of cellaring.
