A bit puzzling. When opened it had oxidized aromas and fierce tannins: when drunk several hours later, the tannins were tamed by the fat of the christmas fare and the aromas seemed straight and fine. No harm in cellaring for a longer time, for sure.

Really modern iteration of Barolo. Low acid, thick, thick, thick tannins. Plush and opulent fruit. Extreme chocolate character. It felt slightly dull with food (at first, due to the perceived lack of acid, but with air (and without food) the thick tannic nature of the wine revealed itself, no doubt due to the low acid nature of the wine. Probably a little opaque, but it didn’t feel two dimensional. In the end, a wine that while modern, completely expresses Barolo.

This was an off bottle. Probably defective and definitely not representative. Cork was hard and very dry although the wine has been stored horisontaly. Dusty notes without being corked. Drinkable but not a pleasure with notes of dried herbs, some green notes and a lack of fruit.

From memory. No decanting, served rather cool. After half an hour and some warming this was really nice, a classic tarry spicy Barolo with the requisite tannins.

Leather, sour cherries, long aftertaste. Super nice value for the money (27 Euro per bottle back in the days). Needs to be drunk in the next couple of years. Can sense the fruit wane.

Briefly noted, bottle opened and poured, drunk out of Riedel vinum Burgundy glasses: Very fragrant and classic nose with dark fruit and spices. A bit murky in taste but eminently drinkable with food. May reach greater clarity of expression in time.

Not sure about some of the recent notes but this wine was absolutely singing after being opened about 45 mins. Medium ruby color. Nose of intense red cherry, dried cherry, black licorice, cinnamon, herbal cough drop and some sweet oak barrique in the background. Gorgeous. Similar flavors on the palate with a mix of dried red berry fruits, cedar cigar box, baking spices and a touch of oak. Medium+ to high acid and tannin but well integrated and very long on the finish. Absolutely loved this wine and it paired perfectly with truffled pasta.

Decanted an hour or two. Overall very accessible and nice: warm dusty, plummy and medicianl nose with roses. Easy to drink with food. Less precise than, say, Burlotto, but easy to like now.

Brett infected to some extend compared to more than 30 bottles consumed so far of this wine in this vintage. Vita wrap in the wineglass took most of it away.

First half decanted an hour: This is classic Barolo with fine structure and aromas with the oak discretely present in the form of a more velvety than mineral texture.
Four days later, the second half from a recorked half-bottle just taken from the cellar (at 13 degrees celsius) at drunk over the following hour: Now the oak dominates, in the beginning almost completely, at the end only as a dimension to the Barolo acidity and high-toned (menthol etc.) aromas.
Conclusion: This will be very good when the oak integrates (like in 2018); right now it seems a bit disjointed which is to say: young. I guess it will eventually be at least as good as the Damilano Cannubi 1999 was in February 2011.

Still very young. Classic cigarbox, medicine, tar but not so profound as other Barolo 2008's. Very dry aftertaste, hope this will be better for my next bottles. I'll wait at least 3 years for the next one to taste, also compared to how 10 other vintages from the producer tasted last week.

Barolo and Barbaresco Tasting - Caro's Wnes (Caro's Wines, Auckland, New Zealand): Classic nose of tar, rose and spice. This is an excellent wine and shows the class of the 2008 vintage over the slightly too round and facile 2009s. Fennel top notes, huge tannins and wonderful length. The best Barolo in the tasting by far. Should improve... 94+

08 Barolo and other Piedmont. (Maison): ...dark cherry aromas, tannin is on full tilt here. Very fine indeed and needs some 4-5 years before breaching that case. There is a new oak thought that plays out on the palate. Really dark kernel, maybe not new oak, but that's my thought. It wasn't present in the Terlo.
