This had gotten better year by year. The first night the petite sirah and mourvedre were dominant, but with air and time the zin showed itself. For the price and ageability, this is a real bargain.

This is a tremendous Zinfandel, particularly for a Zinfandel priced in the teens. Very well-balanced with the good complexity of flavors. When I taste this wine I get Oak, Cedar, even some graphite. Berries of course are strong. Slightly muddled, but not jammy. Also some unripe fruit.

I love to drink a Phantom after not having one for about a month. I immediately start comparing the "pleasure per dollar" found in this bottle to the ones I had over the previous weeks. Not surprisingly, this little bottle wins almost every time! It leans more towards the "Zin fruit bomb" profile in it's youth, but it also ages quite well. I have had several Phantoms >10 years old that were remarkably complex and became more balanced with the bottle age. Pretty impressive for a sub-$20 bottle!

Had with friends an an AOF School event at their CT beach house.
I was told it is a red blend. If you cannot tell from the nose there is plenty of Mouvedre in this wine. It is dark ruby color & has an enormous nose, in the glass, of kirsch. Unusual but tempting aroma which made me go for it.
Flavors at first followed with Oak, vanilla and spice. Not much in the way of berry and the wine severely declined in desirability after 5 minutes. Found myself drinking but not liking. Long finish of mint & eucalyptus.
In reading bottle I noted that it was Bogle (A really large producer) and I give credit to the creation of this aromatic wine bomb. It is thin and not probably not bad for the price.

This wine is tasting great right now. It pours a beautiful inky purple with dark fruit and vanilla on the nose and palate. Great balance of fruit, tannins and acidity. Most enjoyable!

Not sure about this one. Even after 3 hours decanted...It is OK but not my preferred flavor profiles. It's got a lot of carob and molasses. It's also smoky, which is not bad, but I felt for my palate, I didn't like the carob-taste combined with the smoky layer.

Pours a transparent cranberry sauce color. Wonderful nose, mostly petite sirah I think, with blackcurrants and damson plums dominating. An explosive bombish mouthful of purple juice and vanilla, but a good backbone of tannins for balance (unlike the Apothiks). Dark flavors appearing in the midpalate through the long finish - figs, coffee, licorice. Likely to be a crowd pleaser.

A rustic nose of dark fruit and some spice, dark purple in color. A medium to full bodied kitchen sink blend, with blackberry, black cherry, licorice and spice, a bit rough finish. www.winelx.com

I was disappointed after popping and tasting as this red blend was harsh with too much oak, but it mellowed the next day and became "ok". High praise from everyone else makes me the outlier, though I have three more bottles to help me fall in line...

This wine is a fantastic value for the price point. It's round with plenty of fruit and some interesting earth notes. It carries a little bit of structure, but is generally a soft wine with weight. Nice with or without food. I plan to keep a few bottles around for whenever I feel like an easy red.

Red and black fruit, smoke, wood on the nose. Rich, but not overly concentrated. Medium (fuzzy) tannin and acid, a bit of residual sugar, some noticeable heat. Short finish. Okay.

The Bogle Phantom is a nice wine for the money. A pretty good blend, I get mostly Zin from it and there is a lot of oak and dark cherry, and more oak, but then I like oak. The alcohol is 14.9% but it does not get in the way. I had it with grilled pork chops and it hit the spot. I will buy more

Deep, grapy nose, with a black and blue fruit theme of hard candy, violets, bell pepper, and pie spices. Smooth, oaky, displaying good length and ample heft but without feeling heavy, a lick of salt and fruit masking the high alcohol. Espresso and minerals on the finish.

This red is a blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Mouvedre. It is dark ruby in the glass with a nose and flavors of kirsch, oak, vanilla and muted spices. It has a lengthy finish and enough tannins to age gracefully for at least another 5 years. Bogle's Phantom is generally a well-made and reasonably priced wine (approx. $15), but 2011 was an unusually cool and even cold vintage in some parts of California as alluded to in Sauvyfan's note. Not surprisingly, this is my least favorite of the Phantom vintages, and I have been tasting this blend for several years.

Full-bodied. A marriage of petit sirah and zinfandel, and shows each with good effect: it's burly with full-frontal fruitiness decked out with coconut and dill from 24 months on American oak. Not a style I care for, but it's good for what it is.

Not as powerful as in prior years, but nonetheless a value for the varietal(s). Is a touch young yet, so it may develop Phantom's characteristic richness.

Nice color - deep garnet Old wood smell with leather cigar box tones as well. Small tones of tobacco as well. Velvet feel, good flavors with easy transitions. Dry feel across the palate - should age nicely. Light zin flavors with merlot mixed in.
