Pleasant aromas of smoked meat, olives, roasted tomato, and pepper. Medium-ripe blackberry on the palate. A little thin. Worse the next day. Unconvincing.

Delicate, floral, soft, so feminine. Bright red fruit, so red. Roses and red berries. Just a beautiful and traditional wine at 14 years of age and not even close to being dead. Can't believe this is a modern wine, it's more like a beautiful classic car - wish they still made them this way.

Nose could be smelled from several feet away upon opening: floral, pepper, wet forest floor. Very pale, non characteristic of my experiences with French syrah, delicate and layered on the palate. An outstanding wine from a Cinderella Wine pack in 2010. Wish I had more...MUCH more!

This is a lovely, delicate wine with a bouquet of roses, bacon, black pepper, and sweet plum and cherry. Gentle but complex on the palate. Polite, refined, not trying to show off. Drink now.

Excellent wine. We did a vertical tasting with year 2005. Clearly that it was the same winemaker and "pretty much" same flavors and aromas. Difference : 2004 a little bit more acid and less fruits - balanced and pure wine, 2005 more powerfull with still higher level of fruits and tannins - great concentration, purity and structure. Decant for 3 houers. Apperance: Medium/slow legs, light sediment and a ruby/rosy color. Nose with aromas of smoke, spice, sandalwood, licorice, red and black berries with some earth and woody tones. Flavor much the same plus some floral notes. Medium bodied, nicely balanced acid and plenty of well integratet tannins that leads to a long, enjoyable finish. Texture much silky, polished, round and leathery. Great wines. Enjoy. OT

Popped and slow oxed for a three hours. A bit disjointed on opening with prominent acid. With a few hours of air the wine pulled itself together showing dark fruit, beautiful perfumed nose and integrated tannins. A good wine but lacking a bit of depth and complexity.

Drank over two nights. Not surprised to find night two better. There was just something off about this. Thought the nose might be have some brett, but it never wore off. Also, despite being better on night two, it took on some almost apple or cider-like notes. Wanted to rate higher, as I typically love Cote-Rotie, but this just didn't live up to expectations.

Dark brick core with light crimson rim; stank, leather, sour cherry, faint pepper, plum skin; velvet texture with fine tannin, sour red fruit, iron, cherry pit, Burgundian in style, some plum and black pepper, good acid, duller fruit; this put on more fat with airtime; didn't love the nose but the palate is good.

Moderate intensity but still youthful looking. Initially, despite decanting about 2 hours earlier, a little reduction on the nose with a whiff of rubber. Then dark ripe fruits and a touch of leather. Palate was outstanding. Compared to Bullnose Syrah for the same year, much rounder and softer and generally more sophisticated. Great wine.

This was excellent two years ago, and has only gotten better with additional bottle age. Best enjoyed with a 30 plus minute decant. Medium bodied at this juncture almost Burgundian like, still youthful in appearance displaying a medium crimson translucent color. Opens with aromas smoke, asphalt, spice, sandalwood and bacon fat, underscored with some earth tones. Nice spicy cherry and red licorice, accentuated with some meat like and earthy flavors. Nice, well integrated tannic structure that leads to a long, enjoyable finish. A really nice wine that accentuates a variety of hearty foods. Considerable fine sediment in the decanter bottom; this will drink well for the foreseeable future and beyond.

This was so much better than the last bottle opened 2 years ago, and even better after a couple of hours in the decanter. Initial brett notes faded fast in the glass to reveal silky black cherry, flowers, iron with a light but focused mouthfeel and seamless tannnins. The fruit is still primary, but not raw or green, and interestingly, was most often blind called young Burgundy. Would drink my last bottle in 3-5 years.

Decanted for 1 hour prior to dinnner (smoked ham). Meat, white pepper, iron, smoke & soy on nose - similiar palate. Medium body / high (but balanced) acids - Got better with air time and great with food. 90-91 range.

This French Syrah is medium to full bodied showing a well perfumed nose of smoke, spice, bacon and sandalwood. Meaty palate and very European in style with cherry and vanilla flavors. Nice lingering finish. This is a very complex wine.

See also my note on the 2000 vintage which was served at the same dinner. This seemed even greener and raw,but with obvious potential. Fruit was good in the mouth but the finish lingered with an overall impression of acid.

Medium garnet color with some rust at the rim. Run through a Vinituri, nice classic Cote-Rotie perfume on the nose that opened up slowly over time it was open (5 hours)...high toned red fruit, hot rocks, some spice, and a tiny bit of savory meat. Unfortunately the palate did not live up to the nose as the attack was nice, but the midpalate had a decent sized hole in it. While the acidity is a decent counterpoint to the modest fruit there is a still a bit of tannin to resolve...medium to short finish.

Very tight initially with red fruit, smoke, roasted meat and licorice. The wine has a bit of a rustic feel with a restrained nose, and high acid on the finish. On the last glass, there emerged more perfume, although the fruit remains restrained.
