11/12, good cork. Decanted and immediately served at c15C. Deep ruby core, pale ruby/garnet rim. Nose is initially a little bit reticent but opens slowly as the wine warms to reveal fresh red and black berry fruit, black olive, bacon notes. Becoming quite aromatic. On the palate this is no more than medium bodied, it has a bright initial attack - red and black berries, savoury bacon, some notes of blood too, spice, fully resolved tannins - it is quite lithe and has vibrant, almost crisp acidity which carries good length, harmonious finish where the black olive comes back in again. This has aged well - now and next 3-5 years.

Had thrown quite a heavy sediment, so decanted. Very deep ruby. Loads and loads of ripe black fruit with a curious blast of licorice, and hints of cough syrup, grilled bacon and violets. Quite a thrilling attack that made my eyes open widely and a slight shiver went down my spine. Very open, very full, yet also very poised and elegant. A really seductive wine. Red and black fruit fill the mouth, with very soft tannins now. A lovely savouriness, alongside the fruit. What an absolutely stunning glass of wine.

Deep, heavy dark ruby. Enormous nose, full of blackberry, black olive and damsons. Really fragrant and open nose with meaty, gamey overtones. As open on the palate as the nose. Rich and full, and very mouthfilling. Really seductive and inviting with layers of ripe fruit, gamey bacon, umami, yet with an elegant streak of freshness. Tannins are starting to integrate but still very noticeable.

Deep, dark ruby. No apparent youth. Deep, complex black fruit - blackcurrant and blackberry, meaty and gamey with a charming floral lift. Very poised and seductive on the attack. Excellent bacony black and red fruit, with a very savoury umami character behind. Still a good tannic structure, though much softer than the last bottle 9 years ago. Very complex character and excellent length. Pretty much archetypal Cote Rotie.

Everything I expected from a Cote-Rotie. Meaty, earthy, gamey with lots of fruit backbone and acidity. Seems like it might be perfectly in its prime with several more years to go. So beautiful, lithe smooth tanins that haven't started to fade, lots of olive and smoked meat, this is simply delicious. Opened around 2:00 PM for drinking around 7. Wonderful long finish.

1 glass coravined. Deep ruby/garnet core, narrow pale rim. Developed, smoky nose, blackcurrant fruit, lots of smoky bacon, touch of black olive. Medium/full bodied, soft, tactile, black fruited, bacon, game, fresh acidity, very good length finish. Very good indeed/excellent.
Finished 22/2/17 - no deterioration. Spicy, bacony, savoury yet florally, soft tannins, some funk, touch of soil and just a hint of grip on the finish. Excellent.

Nice wine in graceful middle age - not a blockbuster, but with everything in balance. Smokey nose, smooth palate, offsetting acidity. A small amount of sedimentary sludge, decanting recommended. No rush on this.

Enjoyable bottle, but ours seemed a bit over the hill. Nice CR notes of roasted meats and flowers, but they were somewhat overshadowed by Old Wine aromas of mesquite, old mushrooms, and Sweet Baby Ray's. Tons of sediment, and a rather turbid appearance in the glass, so standing upright for a day or so and then careful decanting is recommended. I will say, I was pleasantly surprised by the lively tannin and acid structure. This wine felt great in the mouth, never tired or overbearing.

Pale; delicate nose, spritely, whiff of hot tar; an intriguiging subtley, integrated, refreshing acidity, retains a youthful freshness, medium bodied; finesse on a long finish, which lacks the anticipated depth. Initial impression, drink up over the medium term.

Directly from Ogiers cellar; has matured very nicely. The light vintage shines through, but the balance is fine, and the syrah character is certainly present, very feminine and delicate. All the tell-tale syrah notes are there, bacon, olives, garrigue, cherries etc. nad the wine will certainly go on, but I am not sure, that it will improve. The lightness makes it very approachable right now. Very civilized, old world wine, that shows the vintage rather than showing off.

Evolving, though not showing much tertiary character. There is some decent dark red fruit, deep pomegranate/raspberry, but the high, slightly out of balance, acidity is somewhat distracting. An enjoyable bottle, particularly with food, but not memorable.

Dark ruby in the glass. Gorgeous smokey nose with black fruits and slightly herbacious. A mix of black/red fruits in the mouth with a very nice, vibrant acidity cutting through the depth of the nose. Cherry, black current, herbs, licorice, black olive, medium weight in the mouth and a nice freshness to it. Nicely integrated tannins, very reasonable length finish. Nose is a little ferrous and funky with just a hint of hedgerow fruit; very beguiling. Palate has lots of sweet red fruit initially then a touch of 'greenness' (10-15% stems used, apparently) adds complexity. Satin-like tannins. Stunning.

Lacked the concentration of the 2006 Rostaing. Oak seems more integrated in this bottle than previous - less obvious vanilla. Black fruit, smoky but a nice traditional gentleness even for a modern style - the vintage? Yes, still like it. 90+

Vanilla from oak on opening. 1+ hours . Mainly black fruit but some red cherry. Some meat and olive notes but this is more delicate - floral violet, black pepper both on the palate and the nose. Vintage shows - not concentrated or hot. Very nice. 92.

Nice stuff here - after time in the decanter this has a nutty, earthy aroma - almost Burgundy-like notes of cherries. Camphor and maturing red fruit on the nose. The palate shifts between dusty, earthy fruit to richer, silky notes with a vigorous acidic streak keeping things fresh. Right now the finish is short and the palate doesn't really match the complex nose. Good, but will certainly improve with age. Very good.

Beautiful Cote Rotie. Balanced and complete. Medium bodied. Smell of olives, slightly floral quality, and black pepper. Finish is good. Acidity is a bit overbearing vs. fruit but great with food. Ate with Thai garlic beef and broccoli. delicous and worth the $$$. Not a great CR, but a quality one.

Decanted 1 hour. Deep ruby core, narrow pale ruby rim. Medium intensity perfumed nose showing blackcurrant fruit, vanilla, some floral notes. Medium bodied on the palate, black fruit on initial entry, medium + depth with some savoury meatiness with time in glass, very approachable with soft and silky tannins, nice fresh acidity on the lingering goodish length finish showing some red fruit notes. Not hugely intense or long but lovely balance and harmony. Drinking well now, may improve.

Terroir-istes International - France, Rhone, Cote Rotie (Rodwell House): Deep garnet with narrow orange rim. The bouquet is cinnamon, spice but a deep penetration of ripe (of 2003) fruit: wild strawberry, woody herbs, stewed red plums and raspberry. The wine has a soft, creamy texture with plenty of ripe berries, intense spices and gentle black pepper notes. There is a lively acidity (of 2004), well-integrated alcohol and fine powdery tannins with the fruit sitting nicely on the top - its medium- body all suggest more 2004. Medium-long length, freshness and some complexity.

Purchased a few bottles at a major retailer's inventory reduction sale, which always seems a gamble. In this case, the gamble has paid nicely. Opened one tonight. I have to admit that while I love the Rhone, I haven't huge experience with Rotie's. The color was nice, reminding me of a mature Bordeaux. But the initial nose was just not there, the flavors were tart and thin, and it was hard to imagine that much would develop in the decanter. As dinner was only an hour away, I decided to use my venturi to decant. What a difference that and a 1/2 hour made!
The unique and complex offerings of meats, smoke, flowers, citrus, herbs were all present. Nice balance, and wonderful food wine. I became a CR fan! Paired nicely with a dish of chicken breast and wild mushrooms in demiglace, and especially the truffled mouse pate' on black pepper and prosciutto baguette.
I suspect that this could improve with another few years, but would worry about pushing it too far. It is beautiful right now, but give in some air!

13% ABV. Dark garnet, cloudy opaque in the glass. Aromatically, this wine smells like classic Cote Rotie to me with a slight hickory smoke aroma and light black olive. Medium full bodied with tangy black fruit with a lemony streak. It took me some time to warm up to this wine at first, but it grew on me. Retasting this the following day, it seemed to have bit more leather and seemed a little more dried out. Not sure if that is indicative of an early maturity or not.

An impressive and well made wine, if ultimately something to admire more than love. Classic smoked meat nose, oak evident but extremely well balanced and high quality. Tannin and acid seamlessly integrated. Drinking and open, but clearly at the beginning of maturity only. The kind of wine that tells you how good it is, rather than really moves you with personality.

One of my favorite CR producers. Popped and poured into a decanter. Showing well from the get go with herbs, smoke and a little reduction. Opened up more to add grilled bloody meat and bacon. The palate was very expressive with lavender, more spice/herbs, very savory, iodine and a touch of stemmy greenness (a good thing). Nicely layered if not terrible complex. The intensity is nothing like a '99, yet it still holds it's own. Very nice length and balance. for a weaker vintage, this wine clearly performs and is in a nice place. There is also no mistaking the sense of place/terroir of this wonderful juice. It should improve it's complexity for the next 7-10 years and drink well beyond that. Very happy to have a few more.

Picked up on sale and had to give one a go...decanted 2 hours. Not giving much initially on the nose. After time in the decanter, floral, grilled meat, dark fruit. Nice balance with a slight tannic backbone. Enjoyable now and can cellar short term. Glad I have 5 more from this high quality producer...

wine-pages.com SuperBOWL 2009 (Glasgow): Deep, brooding, meaty black fruits dominate the nose, though there is just a little bit of a floral life in there too. value wise, a bit of sticker shock. thank god i don't pay retail. a bit washed out and light, with flowers on the nose and cherry in the palate, tiny bit of ground black pepper from to-go packets(dust like). nothern rhone- i paired it with hubby's bourbon spicy pork ribs. didn't stand up. none of the peppery spice, meaty earthiness, or firm body i expected. i'm going to be kind and say if i bought this in 6 years, and it developed more interesting depth, then i'd pay the nearly 100 dollar asking price.

Smoke, savory, and leather. Needed more air. Oak needs longer to integrate.

Very fine palate with some really nice, elegant red and black fruit. There's a firm tannic structure which lends a lovely spice on the finish. Still young, but very seductive.

what a beauty! flowers, blue fruits, ham, peaches and smoke make up a captivating and inviting nose. Initialy attack of blue fruits pepper and smoke that transition to mid palate flavors of olive and peach finishing on a medium length elegant finish of lemon and thyme. serious cote rotie. well layered on the palate. Bottle hand carried from cote rotie.

BBR WIne Club Rhone Tasting (BBR, London): Quite closed on the nose with just a hint of the viognier violets. Just about drinkable now but quite closed and oak dominated. Medium tannins. Best left for another 2-5 years.

value wise, a bit of sticker shock. thank god i don't pay retail. a bit washed out and light, with flowers on the nose and cherry in the palate, tiny bit of ground black pepper from to-go packets(dust like). nothern rhone- i paired it with hubby's bourbon spicy pork ribs. didn't stand up. none of the peppery spice, meaty earthiness, or firm body i expected. i'm going to be kind and say if i bought this in 6 years, and it developed more interesting depth, then i'd pay the nearly 100 dollar asking price.
