Opened a 3-litre bottle from 2007 that I had been sitting on for too long, I thought. But how wrong I was! A true delight that kept developing for hours after opening and decanting. So happy it hadn’t tipped over, but probably would very soon. Brownish when opened but then turned into lovely ruby colour. Unbelievable!

(zh m Lu+Han) tiefes Rubinrot, leicht oranger Rand, junger Anblick für 11 J. Zedern und Leder in der Nase, recht wenig Frucht. Wird immer besser: Am Gaumen angenehm, reif, fruchtbetont, gut verschmolzen, weiche Säure und Tannine, leichte Kirschnote und etwas Anis, mittlerer Körper, mittlere Länge ohne viel Schmelz. Third time trying this wine, opened the day before. From my father’s cellar. Something very interesting that I found out about this estate is that they air dry 30% of the grapes before they begin the fermentation process. The color is dark opaque garnet red with the brownish edges. Within the nose there are a lot of sweet berries or prunes. As it opened up more some brown sugar and hard candy came with the nose. The palate was very interesting, because of how sweet the nose smelt compared to the palate. The mouthfeel started off very sweet and light then changed to full and lingering finish. A little fur dancing across the tongue drying out my mouth. Soft/light start across the tongue and then spikes mid to end of the tongue. Not yet at the end of its life, probably has about two or so years left in it. Very interesting varietal that I need to get more experience with. Great QPR, especially for an Italian wine and only for $19.

A hint of the old musky cellar on the nose. Fresh and clean on the palate. Mid palate and I thought ( just a hint that a peaty whisky from islay began to show - but this is a wine!). Very drinkable and enjoyable.j The acidity is balanced and not overpowering.
Dry finish with dry tannins (7/10). The finish lasts for a long time. 60 secs or more.
For the price, great value for money.

Rather decent stuff and will go at least another year or two. Plenty of savory cherry fruit. Ripe and pretty sweet without being confected or jammy. Delicious acidity level balances a rather tannic backbone. Nicely perfumed, slightly floral, yet also earthy and meaty.

Perhaps my palate runs to the more mature, but I absolutely loved this wine. Drinking better than previous bottles, it exhibits scents of old wine barrels out of the bottle with rose and leather accents. Given a few minutes to blow off some funkiness, it presents beautiful tannery aromas and earthy flavors of mild dried berries and light herbs in a medium to medium light bodied frame. I pick up lovely gardenia on the finish. I have never enjoyed a glass of Palazzo della Torre more than this. A wonderful expression of a Veronese wine that is not jumping out of the glass with fruit.

In the "olden days" of this wine, I used to hold these bottles 8-10 years with no ill effect. Lately, though, I have found a lot more inconsistency in quality of the vintages. The '06 was pretty disappointing, so I drank the several 2007s I bought at about a $14 price point much quicker. I was really struck in the '07's youth with its potential, but I think it is probably about peak now. It is a tasty wine that is always a crowd pleaser. It was well integrated at this point, and we had with BBQ to take advantage of its sweeter side with the "raisinated" grapes. I basically think of this as a Zin alternative because I don;t drink Zin anymore, and yet there are some foods that do pair best with a rich, fruit sweet red--as long as there is no oak in the face.

When first opened, it was very tight. Had a couple of glasses with a sample meat sauce and pasta and put the cork back. It was fine.
A few days later I pulled the cork and finished it off and it was much better. The tannins had softened and the raisined character had moved to the front. With aeration, this is a homeless man's Amarone, silky with hints of black tea.

Another outstanding bottle. This still has lots of fruit and body. Absolutely luscious. Had with Italian eye of round and reduced red onions/beef broth over pasta. Molto bene! I only hope the 2010 I just purchased is as good in 3 years (assuming it lasts that long!).
outstanding wine. they let the grapes 'raisin' a while in the drying process, then secondarily ferment with fresh wine and then age in oak. serious cherry and some mint. very expressive and nice finish. had with horseradish cheese and spinach stuffed extra thick pork chops. good pairing. have one more bottle of this and am glad I purchased the two many years ago.

This bottle was really good... I think its starting to show some age. It's garnet colour with some browning at the rim. Stewed prunes and dusty earth. A bit of sweetness on the finish. Very enjoyable.

This is improving as I haven't had an 07 in two years. Still has a smooth silky mouthfeel with a traditional raisin and black fruit taste. The nose is a little muted but I still get blackberry and some minor hint of leather. The finish is solid. This wine has a great QPR and exhibits excellent age worthiness for its modest $17 price point. I'm a fan and now have a six year running vertical.

Disappointing. I'm not sure if I got a bad batch of this wine or what, but the last couple o bottles of this have been borderline drinkable. For me, it's like the wine has been left open for a few days even though you've just pulled the cork.

Very nice wine with the typical raisinie nuances. It actually improves with length of time in the glass. Acid was a little high and the finish was a bit more harsh than one would like to see for one of the great ones. Fruit was bright even with the addition of raisin juice. Still one of the very interesting wines with a pedigreed recipe.

This is an elegant blend of Corvina and Rondinella that finds its genesis in the integration of standard and Amarone wine making styles. Approximately 70% of the grapes are vinified at harvest and the remainder are dried slowly only to be vinified months later. The nose shows dried black cherry, red fruit, spring flowers and licorice. The palate is midweight showing dried cranberries, and plums, with bitter cherries, spice, anise and herbs. The dried fruit is lifted by a wave of acidity, laid over a chalky tannic frame. Enjoyed tonight with homemade meatball subs in a crostini sandwich. Not quite as accessible as the '06 but very well put together and made for a great food wine tonight. It may open up given a little more time in the bottle.

Upon opening there were some really nice herbal, savory aromas. I decanted this for an hour before serving it and regretted it. The nice aromas were gone and the remaining wine was boring and lifeless - like two buck chuck. I think I'm going through a bad wine phase. I'm sure the wine was fine, it's me that's the problem.

Deep, dark garnet in the glass with a nice clear ring around the edge. After a 2 hour decant/warm up this pleasant wine is drinking well with Penne and a meat sauce/parm. A very enticing nose of violets, red dusty berries, some darker fruits in the mix, saddle leather, earth and some minor spices. A touch of integrated wood give a burnt earth/ molasses, but this is noticed more on the palate. It has a nice mouth feel with bright acidity matching well with the smooth tannin that are present but well in check giving this wine a medium/full body. A touch of mineral rounds out this wine. The dominant parts are the red and dark fruits thought that dustiness that reminds me of Rutherford and leather really show well of the nuances. A moderate to long finish is there with dry tannin and fruity acids staying with you for well over half a minute. It looks like this wine is progressing nicely into a more aged style of this wine. Always a great qpr, from Allegrini, the Sangiovese is more noticeable than when drinking the prior bottles of a 6 pack. Very enjoyable with the park topped meat sauce.

While some of the primary Corvina fruit has faded, the Sangiovese seems the dominant grape on both the nose on the palate. Smells of muted date, fig are recognizable, but the dark plum and tart red berries are what is showing at this point in time. Good acid/tannin balance and the mineral keeps this wine fresh and it went perfect with hand tossed pizza. This is truly one of the best value wines from veneto as it continues in quality year in and year out. This wine may be a tad shut down right now, but I am sure it will open back up with more secondary nuances. for now a bit of leather and a few spices were all that was lingering. Good tart finish.

Medium ruby, red, rich fruit cake and glacé cherry nose. The taste is sour red cherry, drying tannins and spice, much drier than the nose would suggest so slightly contradictory but good nonetheless.

I liked it but lacking the best of Italy. The ripasso had improved the wine which had some robust character but lacked a finish. Good acidity to match the pizza but lacking a little in fruit and tannins.

Happy 2013! Another bottle: nose: faint blackberry, as before; taste: smooth raspberry - cherry taste, medium-length earthy Old World palate with tasty plum-anise-chocolate finish; overall: still a delicious, winning pour and a very good value at $16/bottle.
89 points, 10/9/2011 -- color: purple velvet; nose: faint blackberry and a little vanilla; taste: medium mouth feel, blackberry fruit taste (restrained, not jammy), medium-length finish with spice, anise, and tasty tannins; overall: balanced and mature, reasonable QPR ($16), paired well with a grilled pork tenderloin

Deep opaque purple; nose evolved over days initially black fruit, sweet raisins and later more anise and tobacco; palate with blackberry, good balance and strong component of cigar which like the tongue coating tannins were very long-lasting and enjoyable as was the enhanced feel; different than I remember but not a lesser wine. The last glass consumed with a fabulous hickory grilled T-bone and a real homemade Caesar salad. Not bad at all!

Tasted blind: Huge aromas of cherry fruit and vanilla. I guessed washington state right of the bat, thinking merlot. Wrong. Ok it must be new world as there is just tons of fruit and vanilla. Wrong. I was totally clueless on this one. After being told what it was, I did notice a little more acidity in the finish, and a little bit of raisiny fruit as it opened. Ann liked this quite a bit. Maybe a little too much vanilla for me.

Dark ruby tending to maroon. Reserved floral nose showing plum, caramel, coffee and blackberry. Firm tannins give a tight backbone, and time open helps. Shows a bit of the amarone style from the dried grapes. Corvina, Rondinella and Sangiovese. 13.5% alcohol. Interesting wine.

This needs one hour to settle down. The fruit is slightly generic but pleasant with plum, blackberry and a fairly strong unexpected vanilla flavor on the finish. It feels lower latitude with rich sweetness and a plump ripeness that extends the finish. Overall, nice wine, interesting style, good with or without food.

Nice. Hadn't had this for several vintages and this brought back how much I liked it. Rich, not jammy, wine that has pepper notes, some chocolate and cherry but it avoids the sweetness trap that some wines get with those flavors. Back in the early to mid 00s, it seemed this wine was climbing in price faster than others, so I stopped buying; this bottle however was the same price as my last one at least three years ago so the qpr seems to have come back in balance for me. I'll be buying more of this old friend.

Rich and focused with dark cherry and other sweet fruits mixed with herbs and chocolate notes. Needs a bit of time to open up.
Palazzo della Torre is made from 70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella and 5% Sangiovese, all traditional Veneto grapes. Approximately 30% of the fruit is air-dried, Amarone-style.

I always buy half case of the PdellaT in solid vintages, as it is hard to beat it on PQR. Cook up some heartier fare (works great with ribs in summer, just make sure it is chilled down enough), and enjoy the ripasso elements. Bottle #1- consumed with Moroccan stew with figs in it- well-balanced pairing- with some orange zest in stew. Bittersweet chocolate notes on the palate along with the raisin, orange zest, leather, bing/black cherry. Nose was a little locked up. The finish was a little hot; Day 2 coming out of the frig it and dulled down a bit, but was more enjoyable on the finish as it warmed up.

This wine was tasted in single-blind fashion at Vintage Wines, Ltd. (Veneto/Fruili-Venezia Guilia theme tasting). The bottle was kindly provided by Mike Christensen, and the wine was serially tasted over a two-hour period. The robe is black/purple and the nose shows moderately intense aromas of black pepper, black cherries and smoke. Full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity and medium sweet tannins. The alcohol (listed as 15.0%) is slightly hot, although the wine was probably served at a temperature that was too high (should have been 65 degrees Fahrenheit). The flavors are black pepper and black fruit-dominated, and the middle is solid. Long, slightly hot finish. This is a very nice wine which likely would have merited a higher score had it been served at the appropriate temperature. Drink now-12/18.

For a Veronese hybrid (not straight amazon, not trad ripasso) it has great balance of fruit and raisin facets. First taste was not special but opens up very well after only 10-15 mins. Good acids balance the slight caramel that you get from the dried fruit. 15-20 sec finish. Would love to repeat

Nose: cherry, chocolate, roasted almonds. Taste: deep, with strong tanins and rough-velvet texture. This is good, but not seeing what all the fuss is about. There is oaky vanilla, but not overwhelming. Dark fruit, chocolate, earth not overwhelming but definitely present tannins, decent but not bracing acidity. Fine for the money; I'm just not getting a lot of complexity.

Full-bodied and staying plump on the mid-palate, but there's plenty of toned tannin and acidity to buttress its flesh. Aromas and flavors of dark chocolate, cherry, and plum are shaded with earth tones of anise seed, tobacco and loam. Drinks well now but will certainly profit from a few more years in the bottle.

This wine has enough complexity to make it interesting without breaking the bank. I have had this wine a number of times and it is always reliable, interesting and goes very well with food. Dark berry, cherry and some funkiness are what immediately hit you, but there is definitely more than that going on. Some other reviews have listed many nuances, and they are probably all there if you take the time to search them out. One of my favorite wines.

This is the first amarone blend I've had and I'll be looking for more in the future. Rich purple color. Initially there is lots of heat on the nose but as the alcohol blows off hints of wild berries become more pronounced. Medium+ mouth feel like an amarone but the finishes is lighter and zesty with good length. Sweet tannins with berry undertones dominate the taste.

Dark maroon color. Expressive nose: blackberry reduction and dried black/red currant fruit with mocha, new leather, some smoky oak, and a touch of green nettle. Medium/full body on the palate: loads of juicy ripe blackberry and dried currant fruit framed by rich mocha latte, bruleed fig, graphite, and again a hint of green nettle. Solid balancing acidity. Moderate mouth-coating tannins. Lingering graphite/mocha and berry skin on the moderate/long finish. Could use a year or so in the bottle to help the oak integrate a bit more.

Much better than the last bottle I had- no formal notes on this one but recall the wine being in great balance, it seems the extra month or so relaxing helped it out-nice mocha notes, tinge of sweetness and a touch of that prune/fig combo- earthy - ok more of a note than I thought-

Liked it more than the first two bottles, but still not overwhelmed. This bottle did have a nice chewy density, good dark fruit, and was nicely balanced. It's good.

Light cellar nose with chocolate. Moderate tannins with a little heat just before the finish - more notes to follow

One of the best values anywhere. Full-bodied, rich, with a long smooth finish. One of my most reliable favorites.

Nose: cherry, chocolate, roasted almonds. Taste: deep, with strong tanins and rough-velvet texture. Has a vivid bitter feeling to it, reminding of the Amarone provenance associated with the Corvina grape, that comprises 70% of this wine. Coffee, chocolate and cherry flavours. Long strong finish. Will buy again and keep for another few years.

Drinks well now but will certainly profit from a few more years in the bottle.

agree with other users that this wine is great at its price. enough going on that you find it much more complex than you paid for. good fruits, earthy funky tones...nice

This was a very good wine. Pared with Italian Wedding soup for a soup and wine holiday party. Everyone enjoyed it, and the paring held up nicely.

On the nose, briar berries and berry compote. On the palate, smooth, mild blackberry, berry pie/compote, smoky game elements which pass on, mild drying tannins
