  • Definitely recommend for what it is - a good QPR and now fully mature and well balanced modern style barolo. Drink or hold - if drunk now recommend aeration in bottle for 2-3 hours or a 60-90 minute decant and do not expect significant further upside with further cellaring but on the other hand under proper cellaring circumstances this has an easy decade+ to go. Dark reddish purple, peripheral bricking starting to occur, medium bodied, spicy and fruit forward but integrating nicely with good balance, oak & tannins still present but controlled and lovely medium length aftertaste. Nose bright and fruit forward with dark stone fruit, black pepper and licorice. Flavor profile of dark stone fruit, oak and blueberry up front with more graphite, coffee and black olive on the finish. Not as dark, complex and full bodied as the best of the more traditional barolos, a lighter more approachable style but a very nice wine none the less.

  • See previous note from swapdoc. Exactly it. I was also surprised by the cork...

  • Happy new year everyone! It is always a great challenge to find a wine matching my native Korean food with. I tried this for the 1st time and I must say it went very well indeed!! Much better than I had expected, or hoped. The fruits are fading away to make the color a bit more transparent and just a bit crimson, on the nose it is beautiful indeed with floral and gorgeous small berries with freshness coming out of the glass effortlessly. On the palate, the tannin is very healthy and not at all giving way, but the fruits have, so I thought it would be standing tall versus the Korean traditional meal of the new year's day and the healthy tanning was totally rounding up with the flavors and spices of the food and the backend freshness of fruits prevailed most nicely to combine the two distinct worlds and made them to understand each other very nicely. Something that I wish Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin should take time to taste together... if you know what I mean. Cheers,

  • Floral, perfumed, oak influenced wine, youthful still and tannic. Volatile aroma of stems; taste of strawberry, celery. Wood treatment added a slick, perfumed characteristic. An average modern expression of barolo; a cheap cork tells you what the producer thought of this effort.

  • Fully agree with TIG78 below. Certainly read for business and may improve even further with time. Fantastic effort.

  • Won't rate this wine until I try the second bottle. For me the wine seemed off putting but others said no. It seemed to have a great deal of petrol on the nose and pallete. Several aromatic experiences but nothing persistent to warrant the accolades. Time will tell.

  • The '10 La Spinetta Barolo Garretti was one of the most exciting wines I tasted 5 years ago as the 2010 barolo vintage started hitting the market. At the time, I had limited experience and understanding of traditional techniques vs modern. While the Barolo Garretti is modern in style and I strongly prefer Barolo made in a way that showcases the typical characteristics of nebbiolo, I still very much enjoyed this wine for what it is. Surprisingly open for business, the Garretti showed aromas of fresh rose and strawberries. On the palate, there was an impressive finesse with fine tannins and well-integrated oak. It's hard to tell if this is the peak or if further improvement will come, and I look forward to finding out.

  • Like being at a party and seeing a woman across the room for the very first time, standing there with friends, and she’s got it all. Fully body and sweet floral perfume with spicy sandalwood accents sweep you off your feet. Once introduced, the taste of ripe raspberry and dried cherry are obvious. But far more exotic notes lurk beneath her velvety soft skin (12 days worth) as you discover unexpected flavors of orange peel, fresh leather and minty Old Spice. A mouthfeel so round and smooth you feel a bit lightheaded. You may wonder about that Leone, but tell yourself just be courageous. Such balance and amazing grace, her rich fine tannins seem almost unreal at the finish of your conversation that night. Later, you realize this may just have been the Barolo of your dreams. What comes next could be your destiny. Buy now, hold through the mid ‘20s .... or until death do you part.

  • Well structured, tobacco, soft'ish tannins, strawberry, perfect balance between acidity and body. Great '10.

  • 88 actuel -> 90 potentiel

Trop jeune, nez végétal, bouche simple. À attendre que le vin se fasse.

  • This is a very structured wine with very firm tannins and medium (+) acidity. The nose is youthful and complex, with toasty, smoky oak, wild berries, balsamic, bitter herbs, truffles, earth. It is approachable now with lots of aeration, but should continue to improve over the next ten years.

  • Contratto / La Spinetta Visit (Canelli, Italy): Garnet core with larger dull maroon rim, some clarity; high toned, elegant, dense, darker fruit, dark cherry, violets, sour plum; silky texture, some vanilla, fine strong tannin, very plum, sour darker cherry, dark raspberry, big but elegant; nice.

  • Disappointing for what it is. Pine needle nose. Really loads of pine and menthol. Too much for me.

  • Stephen and I enjoyed dinner at Veni Vidi Vice I thought the wine was drinkable Steve thought it was so-so. Did not have a lot of complexity in the flavor but it was easy on the pallet and complementary to our dinner which was Agnolo and fish. Arnika loved the color and it had a slight taste of alcohol.

  • Tasted at the winery. Raspberry, leather, a bit spicy/smoky. More fruit than the Starderi cru barbaresco, but still quite tannic -- needs time. Aged 2 years in oak, 30% of which is new.

  • 2010 Barolo (San Francisco Wine Trading Company): Deep cherry nose, but doesn’t have that jelly/confected thing that I found in the Parusso, some oak but it seems to be held in check, floral, some leather; somewhat warm palate with supple red fruit, finish is a bit oaky but otherwise this is very nice. Yeah, it's seems to be a more modern style, but this is pretty nice.

  • A Barolo Day-2010 Flight and a Few Adolescent Wines (SF Wine Trading Company and Acquerello Restaurant): Medium red. Peppery nose which seemed out of place. Smooth, middle weight feel due to substantial oak. Beautiful plummy fruit, notes of espresso, and round tannins which rise and bore their way right into your gums! Modern style, but packed with flavor and interest. It will need a full 20 years to become more civilized.

Grande bocca, molto precisa. Tutto al posto giusto. Concentrato, cristallino, didascalico. Grande vino.
