Ex Domaine bottle - shows well but nowhere near the level of the La Tache 1991. autumn leaves and spice on the nose. Lovely, quiet expressiveness with good length. I would drink up. Another bottle next to us badly oxidized by the way - so in line with other notes there may be some variability here.

Domaine Romanee Conti Lunch (Phoenix, AZ USA): A bit acrid on the nose, with air this subsided albeit not completely. The flavor was rich, and I got a burnt note to it that I associiate with Richebourg and Brulees, so I was able to correctly identify it blind. With more air it got better but plateaued and ultimately was overmatched by the 90 RSV served beside it.

The 91 DRC Richebourg has the potential to be a wonderful wine (see my note from 2018) but this one just never really showed up. Demure, red fruited, sous bois without the energy, definition, or complexity of the last bottle.

Crazy good bottle of 91 Riche. Amazing nose - cool and refined. Good spice notes on the nose. Asian and Vosne spices on the palate. Burst of pure red berries, raspberry, cherries, high tones fruit. Elegant and highly nuanced. This has plenty left in the tank.

Just pops- fresh raspberry, cherry, black pepper, thyme fruit. Some thought this was a bit green, but it's no 2004. I had no problem with this, and I'm quite sensitive to green in Burgundy. This has that delicious iron fist in a velvet glove Richebourg quality. Dynamic, lively, and young.

La Paulée Chevalier Fête (Saison - San Francisco CA): Red berry and cherry aromas, flavors in an elegant, slightly lighter style while also slightly backward. Group was very mixed on this wine, some liking it a lot more, some a lot less than my reaction in the middle. I'd cellar this longer.

I probably shouldn't write many details in that I was hungover from the night before and already well along by the time I got to this. What a shame. What I recall is a silky wine with beautiful red and black fruit with a subtle stem flavor that I adore. The rest gets a little foggy.

This was absolutely mind bendingly good. Wild complexity: dried rose petal, pickled ginger, dried cranberry, spicy cherry, sandalwood, honey, watermelon, moist earth, moss, soy, toasted sesame seeds, and toasted coriander seed. The palate is so fresh with moderate tannin, elevated acid, and a long complex finish. Wonderful wine.

High note sweet spice nose with air time. Dark herbs, rose petals and dusty soil underneath. Nose greatly benefited from 45 minutes of air. Pure and focused palate with intriguing light licorice notes. Light tannins still remaining on the backpalate. Very nice bottle.

99W/91R. Single blind with 91 Leroy Richebourg. Leroy better, as always, but at least close this time. Slightly lighter shade of purple. Relatively closed aromatically to start, then expressed whole bunch character. Evolved nicely, quite complete.

opened 2½ hours prior to serving, not decanted. stronger animal notes, a little stinky and funky. Later a little musty, and not very pleasant on the palate.

Medium ruby in the glass with amber at the edges. Nose required a bit of coaxing but quickly gave up rich ground coffee, leather, dusty law library, and dark damp soil. Soft spices still tingle on the palate with mildly sweet cinnamon, brown sugar, and a sort of red clay minerality. Fall leaves and maple emerge later on as well. A beautiful combination of drying red cherry, soft spices, and earth. Texturally silky with great balance. A complex wine that showed just great tonight. Developed and fully mature.

Boom! Now this is what I was expecting from 1991 DRC. Absolutely spectacular nose of spice, iron, earth, red fruit, dried roses and more spice. Outstanding energy and freshness on the palate. This grew in stature with more and more time in the glass. Amazing harmony, balance and grip. But the spice really stole the show tonight.

Hint of brown in the colour was consistent with a fair amount of wild farmyard and brett. Rich, dark, sweet, tangy palate with quite a dry finish. This wine was a bit all over the place for the first hour but started to settle down in the glass thereafter. Developed a lovely, refreshing menthol note and finished so clean and vibrant. Needs time.

Dinner with Friends (Chicago IL): Popped and poured, served alongside the 1991 Domaine Leroy Richebourg. Darker color than the Leroy. Deep garnet with a slight orange hue around the rim. Powerful aromatics of dark red berries, cinnamon, clove, and a bit of soy. Some sous bois charactor as well. Fruit forward palate with the brown spice notes throughout. Medium body and great acidity. Long finish.

nose was very open and beautiful. A bit salty, with minerals, sous bois, a little toast, leather and animal. The body was lighter than La Tâche but the nose was much lovelier.

MNSC Annual Dinner (Yung's Club (嚐真)): Stunning nose of spring flowers, black fruits, sweet spices, licorice and toast. Some might say it's a bit light for Richebourg but who cares if it's this gorgeous and sexy?
