Annoyingly this is my second attempt at leaving a note. The first note was better :(. Rose, mushroom, a little vegetal on the nose. Nice soft mouth feel, decent acid although fairly low tannins,, red and blue fruit, cherry. Very good Petaluma Gap Pinot - interesting to me since the vineyard is about 20 miles from my home. My first Sojourn and very impressive. The softness on the mid-palate and finish leads me to say "drink up".

Drank first of 3 bottles from my cellar tonight. Needed at least 30 minutes of air after opening to present itself well. Kept improving over next 90 minutes. Might keep improving after that but I was unwilling to continue the taste test. Sorry. Medium purple, dark for a pinot, but full of finesse. Creamy and soft texture, red to black fruit notes, piney forest all present but harmonized. I think the recent reviews have been spot on.

Not as impressive a showing as my last bottle but not bad. Over the years, the Sangiacomo has frequently been my favorite. Pure black and red cherry fruit, tree bark and a touch of pine needle. Palate is a glossy satin texture. Nice finish with softer acidity. Nothing earth shattering but a nice wine.

I have to admit, I fell out of love with Sojourn a few years ago. The wines when young were just a little too fruit forward for me, not food friendly enough, etc. Since then I’ve been drinking down my stash. Then I go and drink a bottle like this with 6 years of age on it. All of the baby fat is gone but still plenty of fruit. Tons of berries, rocks, earth and just a little brown spice. The depth of the fruit and the purity is pretty impressive. Feels like a hint of excess alcohol but not too obtrusive. The length of the finish is almost ridiculous.

This is sort of a dark, brooding wine with intense color and really interesting, but somewhat atypical pinot flavor. The predominate dark red fruit we found was cranberry that was tart and a bit acidic. There was also some spice swirling around in each glass that evolved from glass to glass. There is the typifying Sojourn cleanliness and purity we enjoy and expect. The finish lingered about 15 seconds. Overall we enjoyed this bottle.

Pop and pour - immediately approachable. Strawberries, vanilla, flowers, great acidity, balanced mouthfeel. Even better with air (darker fruit, less oak), but disappeared before we got there. If possible, decant 1hr.

This falls on the side of the spectrum of big, extracted California Pinot Noirs. Medium dark purple in the glass. Rich almost jammy ripe black cherry and 14.5% abv. Well made and balanced, but not my favorite style, but is a good option for folks who like big Cali cabs.

This is showing so well it reminds me that Sangiacomo was our "house wine" for the longest time. Elegant and not overbearing, with cherry notes, and some subtle plum and blackberry notes. Very light on the oak, but some toast presence.

Much better than I remember this to be. No specific notes right now, but the depth and intensity of flavors was special. Red fruits and some spice dominate. The purity of wine is noteworthy also. Did not decant, but probably should have. This wine improved over the evening.

Mid-weight this showed some restraint on the fruit but no mistaking it for Californian. Slightly tart bing cherry, some plum, over a nice mineral backbone. Nice bottle of wine but uncertain of the QPR.

I've been drinking a lot of pinot this week and this one might be the best of the lot for current consumption (the 2005 Hospices Volnay needs 5-10 more years and will probably end up being the best). There is both power and finesse. Extreme balance with a velvety mouth feel, no rough edges, lots of cherry and red berry and plum fruit. There is soft spice but nothing harsh. Not sharply acidic and no citrus notes. Goes down very quickly and disappeared in a flash.

Big fruit initially all over the nose, lots of cherry and blackberry. This is clearly a California Pinot Noir and it needs to open up. After decanting for about an hour and fifteen minutes, this wine becomes incredibly rewarding. It is silky smooth with an extremely pleasant mouthfeel, those big fruits even out and make way for a long welcome finish. Drinking very well right now on it's own or with a meal.

Expressive. Red fruit aromas of cherry, strawberry and cranberry prevail with hints of lavender and rosemary. Rich, robust red fruit is countered with appropriate acidity however high alcohol level and tartness of fruit gives off a slight perception of heat on the finish. That said; still highly enjoyable, nicely built PN.

Consistently delicious bottle from Sojourn. Fruit forward, but not over the top. There is plenty of complexity and earthy/spicy elements to go with the fruit. Silky/creamy texture.

Popped and poured. Medium dark ruby color. Lots of ripe red fruits on the nose with cherry and raspberry aromas mixed with some sweet baking spices and a bit of juicy black plum. Similar flavors on the palate with a bit of creamy oak mixed in. Medium to medium+ acid, medium tannins and body. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Textbook Cali pinot.

Medium bodied California PN. Bright cherry and plum fruit. This pleasantly lacks some of the over the top cola flavor found in many of its contemporaries. A bit reticent on opening, this got much more accessible with time in the glass. Good now but decent potential.

Tart, red fruit on the nose, with some earthiness. Palate is cherry, black tea, a little earthy oak. Excellent in its youth and you feel like the flavors will just meld together over time.

Explosively fruity and intense, with ample spice and a restrained touch of vanilla from the oak, it has the acidity and a streak of minerality that keep it from being overwhelming. A slobbering, tail-wagging golden retriever to the 2010 Rhys San Mateo PN's dignified standard poodle, this isn't the style of PN that I normally prefer, but I enjoyed it quite a bit all the same.

Pop and pour and then used about 1/4 cup in a sauce for a roast duck breast. Then served with food (the roast duck breast with the wine sauce in case that was not obvious). Delicious. Both the duck and the wine. The wine showed bright red cherries with brown spice and sassafras notes, all nicely balanced with citrus to lift the fruit profile. Leans towards the richer side of the Pinot scale but still inviting and plays a good supporting role with the rich dish of roasted duck. Nicely done.

Pop-n-pour. Clear, ruby color, medium intensity with youthful aromas of red cherry, strawberry, raspberry, white pepper and Herbes de Provence. Dry, medium bodied with corresponding levels of acidity/alcohol; cloying initially but gradually revealing expressive flavors of aforementioned profiles. Evenly distributed spiced finish. Nice, fruit-driven Pinot built for early access.

Red purple. Strawberries and raspberries on the nose. Sweet black cherry, a hint of citrus, baking spice, minerality, in a plush mouthfilling package. Swirling in the glass produces long lasting legs. Delicious now but really needs a few years of age.

Simply outstanding. Cherry creme and hints of cola on the palate and just a bit of earth shows through on the finish. This is a beautiful wine. It's very drinkable now, but I think it will improve even more in a year or two. Not candy sweet at all like some California Pinots I've had recently.

West of West Wine Festival (West Sonoma Coast Vintners) (City Winery - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Lots of ripe fruit with a hint of cherry cola. I like the good concentration, but find some warmth coming through that I didn't like as much. Good in its style.

Pop-n-pour. Clear, ruby color, medium intensity with youthful aromas of red cherry, strawberry, raspberry, white pepper and Herbes de Provence. Dry, medium bodied with corresponding levels of acidity/alcohol; cloying initially but gradually revealing expressive flavors of aforementioned profiles. Evenly distributed spiced finish. Nice, fruit-driven Pinot built for early access.

Medium dark color. Cherry and barnyard aromas. Cherry flavor dominates. Significant acidic imbalance that may be due to its young age. Medium finish.

Red purple. Strawberries and raspberries on the nose. Sweet black cherry, a hint of citrus, baking spice, minerality, in a plush mouthfilling package. Swirling in the glass produces long lasting legs. Delicious now but really needs a few years of age.

45-60 minute slow ox in a 375. Cherry dominated but not as layered as the Sonoma Coast. Got the impression this needs time in the bottle.

Simply outstanding. Cherry creme and hints of cola on the palate and just a bit of earth shows through on the finish. This is a beautiful wine. It's very drinkable now, but I think it will improve even more in a year or two. Not candy sweet at all like some California Pinots I've had recently.
