Incredible magnum, deep salmon color, great bubbles, held up and didn’t dissipate over time in the glass. Great to drink an older champagne and to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary with friends.

At very mature stage, basically no bubble left, but on the nose you still get that roasted nuts, strong toffee and a bit of yeasty aroma. On the palate, it was still lively with pretty solid acidity, toffee, a touch of caramel, and dark cherry fruits.

Rose Champagne Dinner (Nico Osteria): A really interesting wine. Shows age but all the flavors are in the fruit zone with little earth nuance. Structurally this still has loads of acid freshness, but the fizz is quite light. Clean nose has aromas of cherry, sweet toffee and roasted nuts. Palate has a ton of acid, fruit is dry and shows of dried berries. Precise and layered. Interesting and good, but more mature than I'd care for.

#roseallday (Chicago, IL): While this definitely had the smell of old champagne, it didn't have a pronounced mushroom note to it. It's a good bottle in a difficult vintage, and while this is intellectually interesting to try, there's also quite a bit of outright enjoyment from this bottle as well. There's a lot of earthiness here, as well as a slight bit of red fruit and perhaps a floral tone as well. The palate still maintains a bit of effervescence, and there's a fruity sweetness that dominates the palate. The acidity at this point is subdued, and this is nearing the end of its life (at least to my palate).

Giacosa weekend - lunch at Masseria (Masseria, DC): Slightly cloudy and brownish salmon color. Vinous nose displaying shy red and yellow fruit, strawberry, dry peach, sous bois, smoke salmon, toffee, caramel and earth. Fully mature palate impression, fading shy but sweet red fruit, shy mousse, medium acidity and mineral, and a medium long shy red fruit driven finish with a hint of damp cellar and sous bois at the end. Needs to be drunk up unless cellared perfectly.

cp 50 (Gentofte): Quite fat and creamy, more than a few hints of peach, coffee and your old grocery store galore. Mousse is less than lively. Very nice - but drink up.

Magnum Man Cellar Depletion (Northfield, IL): From magnum (I think). Sensational aromatic start with strawberry, roses with background sweet spice and ripe apple. Amazing freshness for its age. Flavors match the aromas. Wow.

Fresh, strawberry color. Tired of drinking wines from the kids birth year and drank this for the year I married their mother. Still vibrant with plenty of life.

Bastille Day dinner: Copper color. Aromas of berry, toast and cashews with floral undertones. Flavors of red berries underneath the dominant caramel flavor, with a subtle mineral tinge on the long finish. While interesting, this is certainly well beyond its best days.

Out of magnum,
Dark Rose color, great nose, sharp finish, after an hour smooth finish, probably another 10+years to go!
