Wow ! Granddd vin !

Medium nose intensity with notes of red cherry, red fruits, spices and toast. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. Drank it side by side with 2017 and 2019, felt 2013 is pale in comparison.

"This is a wine I imagine people make in prison" (Chicago, IL): No. 10121. Classic Lambrays style; bright red fruit and tons of spicy stem notes. Relatively lighter on the palate, this actually feels a little thin and acidic at times, though it seems to flesh out with air. Still, this feels a little thinner than I would expect for a grand cru Burgundy. Served next to Taupenot-Merme's version, the stylistic difference of the two houses becomes incredibly stark.

Tasted over 3 hrs -nearly semi-translucent med red -moderately aromatic with the familiar Lambrays stem and spice -med/med+ acidity provides a sharp tang on the finish, med/med- weight with up front sappiness with gentle spice and berry cherry fruit followed by a brief lull then a rush of earthy saline red berry and a bit of oak spice, good length -a very pretty Lambrays, surprisingly open with good complexity if not a lot of depth at this stage

Wow! Gorgeous nose of red cherries/raspberries, with mushrooms. Decanted for one hour. Wine kepts improving through the night, gaining weight and depth.

At Corella Restaurant, Woolloongabba. This wine has a clear dark cherry colour with a immediately attractive nose of red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry with touches of clove and stones. The palate is medium weight with a sense of transparency and light. The fruit is attractive but not dense and the finish is quite fine with lovely length. Delicious now.

HDH auction at Spiaggia; 12/13/2019-12/14/2019 (Chicago, IL): No. 10113. Very light. Distinct stemmy qualities and a touch of green on the nose and palate. Light as expected, and shows the house style very clearly. Clean and mineral, but without the concentration and power you'd expect from a grand cru.

Not a good showing. Pure fruit but not near GC level -- more like a solid villages. I'm a Lambrays fan, so I'd give this some time. It improved with air, which suggests that this may put on weight and gain complexity with age.

Flott, ung og fruktdrevet nå. Stort potensiale der struktur, lengde, syre, flott kald bringebærfrukt, lær, skogbunn, våt stein alt er på plass. 09 var lukket og vrien for litt siden - bedre her.

Tones of red fruits, raspberry, red and black cherries, strawberry and cinnamon, clove, dry leaves, smoky. Medium body with smooth long finish. This wine beats a 13 Rousseau Lavaut St Jacques in both complexity and price. A very good Grand Cru. I think 2013 is drinking perfect now through the next 10 years.

Clos de Lambrays Vertical 1989-2015; 1/1/2017-9/22/2019: During a Clos de Lambray tasting dinner with the wine maker. Interesting nose with stalky notes, red fruit, touch of earth. Very typical mid mouth presence of 2013, which I think is underrated. There is purity and elegant fruit with a subtle tannic structure. The dry extract provides the support and makes the wine exquisite with food. Wait till 2020. Better than the 2014 was the consensus at the table tonight.

Tasted during a WA matter of taste walkabout, so only a brief impression. This Burgundy continues to taste a bit like a Merlot/Pomerol or a Californian Pinot. There is density, there are forest aromas, lots of fruit but little Pinosity. I don't understand why they make the wine in this way. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't taste bad but it is not exciting either. They should dial down on oak, extraction and pushed ripeness to make a true Burgundian wine. Anyway, 92-93 for me, score higher if you like this kind of Pinot.

2013 Grand Cru Horizontal tasting (Prince Wine Store, Bank Street, Melbourne): Stalks, leather, red berries, cream and spice underneath. Actually despite this the nose is quite compelling. On the palate it's fresh and fleshy with the fruit persisting over stalky, chalky tannins. Plentiful structure and this is probably wine of the bracket for me.

Young White and Red Burgundy, 2012 Through 2014 (The Wine Club, San Francisco): Light ruby center. Stemmy, peppery nose, somewhat disheartening for Burgundy. Medium weight and body. Some subtly sweet red fruit to start, but then prominent acidity, a peppery note, and drying tannins. Overall, a lean wine with reasonable length. I doubt this has the requisite flesh to stand up to the structure over time. It will not take its place amongst the great Clos des Lambrays of the past.

Visit to Domaine des Lambrays (Morey-St-Denis): (Tasted from barrel, malo completed, 100% whole bunch). Deep, dark colour. Lifted berry, black cherry and plum aromas underpinned by savoury notes of spice and underbrush. Rich, ripe, fine fruit with brambly and liqueur flavours; precise, elegant fruit framed by fine, bright acidity and cultured tannins. This is a very appealing wine, even at this early stage. I preferred the 2012.

Sadly this is the last vintage before being sold earlier this year to LVMH, the world's largest luxury goods company. The families who have owned this estate over the last 30 years have done a tremendous job so to see it lining up alongside Louis Vuitton bags is a bit tacky in my book. The good news is they are keeping on chief winemaker Thierry Brouin, but for Burgundy purists I suspect this is still a sad day. That aside this is a lovely wine, but not exceptional. It has all the usual fine elegance and it's typical sweet red fruit core, but I felt it was lacking in any kind of exciting complexity. Still very good, just not thrilling. Let's hope the new owners invest in whatever is necessary to take this wine onto the next level. Certainly they have already hiked the price considerably! Estimated maturity: From 2021

Tasted twice on 12/01 and 13/01, with similar notes. Slightly stemmy nose, fine fruit, spices, forest notes. Tight and dense, lots of depth and power, grippy tannins, excellent finish with great persistence. 93-95+

Drinks very nicely and don‘t expect this to improve much further given the vintage. Super sexy, luscious fruit. Less of the typical Lambrays notes.
