I wrote a note back in 2016, saying none of these bottles in my cellar would see 2018. I was wrong.
Most of my earlier note stands, with this exception - this wine is less linear and much more nuanced than it was 6 years ago. And as a result, it further establishes itself as one of the best $20 bottles of wine I've ever had.
Is it great? Iconic? No. But...great aromatics, balanced and resolved body. Yep. Nine years later under a synthetic cork. I was fairly surprised. I would push this toward 92 points, and while that surprises me as well, it is that good.
This bottle is a reminder of why we cellar wines.

This bottle is less intense compared to last bottle. Maybe extra year softened it but still very nice drinker. Medium plus weight with black fruits, some mid-palate spice, well balanced, good finish but not much tannin.

Quite Nice. Medium plus weight, black fruits - mostly blackberries, plum, noticed some mild licorice and blueberries. Some acidity shows in mid-palate, balanced, smooth, fresh, with finishing tannins. Quite good now with lingering finish.

P&p. It's likeable enough but not impressive, as much as one should expect for $21, a somewhat generic entry level Napa cab. Decent fruit, reasonable balance, grippy tannins, but I don't taste anything suggesting future development. On second day, served with cheese, more fruit and the tannins seemed finer, more resolved.

Welcome back to 1996! That was probably the last time I had a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon this good in the $20 a bottle range. Beautiful purple-ruby color, full-medium bodied, more restrained Bordeaux style but still with plenty of juicy Napa flavors of cassis and spice, with nice acidity and peppery tannins. Great now, but has many years left to go. At this price you could fill your hot tub time machine with the stuff and take a trip back to the Clinton Administration.

A classic, well made Cali cab that would represent a fantastic every day wine if it weren’t for the price Napa cabs command on our Canadian shelves these days. The typical notes were all there: plum, blackberry, currants, sweet spice, mint, and oak. The vanilla, cedar, and toast from the oak were certainly notable but not overwhelming once the wine had some air and was able to come into balance. Though leaning more towards the supple fruit and oak, savoury hints of earth, herbs, and pepper provided a good counterpoint. The tannins could use a bit of time to soften a bit, though I don’t think this is a bottle built for much more than a few years of aging. Good typicity and decent complexity – as indicated, this is a wine I’d certainly drink more of if not for the price.

Buehler is always a good value in excellent years and the 2013 vintage is no exception. They've owned land on Howell Mountain for many years and it shows with this wine. Highly recommended at the price point. Drinks well now with air but will improve. A- grade

Dark brick red with medium plus optical density. Attractive and straightforward aromas of cedar, black currant, and aromatic florals. Full bodied and dry with medium plus acidity and firm backend tannins with a texture that is open and gripping at the same time. Flavours show dark berries and light plum on the attack supported by earthy/crunchy leaf undertones. The midpalate is a bit hollow and lacks vibrancy, transitioning toward dried plum flavours without much complexity, but things come back toward the finish with spicy black pepper mixed with savory notes, leaving a medium length finish of cedar pencil shavings. This wine is a solid everyday wine, well made, but lacking polish and kick in the midpalate. Would make a wonderful house wine to pair with foods, as it is a reasonable value, and food could certainly fill-in some of what is missing and create a very enjoyable experience. This is ready for drinking now- not a lot of freshness can be sacrificed to maintain a sense of balance- at least for this bottle, it seems to already be tipping somewhat.

Needed a couple of hours to open up. Dark ruby with a garnet rim. Floral nose redolent of blackcurrant and cedar. Blackcurrant, raspberries and sweet spices on the palate. Excellent varietal character, balanced, good purity of fruit if a tad simple. Medium tannins, full bodied, low acid with good persistence. Went great with a New York strip.

Second opinion on this wine. It’s so inexpensive, I have to keep going back to it. Some pretty serious red fruit on the tip of the tongue. Quite an easy drinker. Light on tannin/acid. Not a particularly sophisticated or complex wine, but with a simple meal, I don’t think you can beat it for the (slightly over) $20 that it costs—in multiple retail stores.
another excellent cab. well structured but with a little extra acidity. the nose is good and the fruit flavor comes through. very good mouthfeel. just gets better with decanting.

This is not a bad wine but it is also not a great wine. Wine improved with some time so I recommend opening this for an hour before drinking. Initial nose of cedar and some background cassis. At first it was a rather bitter start. After a few minutes the background complexity reveals itself. A really easy drinker, nothing special but a really good wine for the money.

Largely agree with chablis28's review, particularly the first sentence "this could be my house wine". Certainly one of the better $20 cabs I've had in awhile.
Aromatic nose. On the palate, very approachable. Not much in the way of structure. Early drinker? Fairly linear in its approach. Juicy Cali fruit, without coming across as heavy. Lacks the complexity of some of the higher end wines, but this will be a crowd-pleaser. Not one I'd think about cellaring. Bought a case, and I'd be surprised if any of them see 2018.

This is remarkably good for the price and could be my "house" cabernet, if, I drank cabernet more regularly. Paired perfectly with burgers tonight but would also be great with anything hearty. PnP in Riedel BDXs. Sniff & sip for 30 minutes prior to dinner. Immediately great spicy / tobacco nose. This never felt even remotely heavy. Concentrated and lovely weightless balance. Plenty of energy lifts the dark chocolate, cedar, tobacco and dark raspberry flavors. This has amazing complexity for the price. Paid $19, easily drinks like $45+. Kind of a like drinking an adolescent 10yr old BDX. Only a tiny amount of gritty tannins on the finish detract right this minute. But, this drinks great for a new release! 14.1% ALC, feels more like sub 13%. Going back for 3 more of these, for sure. For me, best served between 58-62 degrees.
"Classic" Napa Cab New Releases; 3/12/2016-3/14/2016 (Lakes Region, NH): Nose: Blueberry, Blackberry, Cedar and Mint. Palate: Very modern styling and full ripeness here, great blue fruit and mountain notes. Finish: Mouth filling with rich fruit, lingering fruit leather and a bit of spice.
PNP this was great right out of the gate.

Nearly opaque, garnet color. Shy, earthy aromas. Elegant entry. This opens with a big, polished core of cassis and blackberry and finishes with an interesting cinnamon stick note. Balanced. Relatively low feeling acid and alcohol. This went great with beef stroganoff. This is the first 2013 I've had that I liked more than its 2012 counterpart. 90

Light hit of cassis on entry, but, also, an unfortunate hit of bitterness. Sturdy tannin and good acid. Very pleasant and lengthy aftertaste, but I can’t get that initial bitterness out of my mind.

I have enjoy a number of vintages of Buehler and frequently purchase this wine because of quality and price. Particularly wanted to try the 2013. Did not decant and served with grilled center cut pork chop. Initial nose of cassis and cedar, very clean flavors, medium tannins that began to dissipate after a couple of hours, and good length. As usual with Buehler, this is a very good California cabernet at a good price.

A real comeback for this value-priced label. Color is opaque purple-black, with a density of aromas and flavors showing cassis, blackberry, black cherry and tobacco, laced with a spine of dark chocolate and surrounded by sweet, grippy tannins. Finish is long and tasty. Terrific QPR in 2013.

Bright fruit and soft textures make this deep crimson wine an easy drinker right from the get-go. Black currant, plum, pickling spice and lavender aromas are followed by similar flavors on the medium-weight palate. With low-to-medium acidity, silky tannins, well-integrated oak and seamless alcohol (14.1%), it glides through the middle and finishes with good length. This is another winner for Buehler, whose "workhorse" Cabernet always seems to provide reliable value. Enjoy it over the next 5-6 years. Drink now-2021.

I find this a little lighter than I would expect from a Napa Cabernet. This one acts like it has a majority of Davis clone Cabernet with some easily approachable, upfront blueberry and plum flavors. Dark, but not opaque color. Blueberry and vanilla bean on the nose. Still young, could use a decant, the tannins, acid and fruit are not yet harmonized.
