Happy Cabernet day! Dense, powerful and elegant; with mixed berries, mixed peppercorns, truffles, caramel, black currant, coca dust and vanilla nuances. Medium-plus smoky cinnamon finish with chocolate tannins and crisp acidity. Among life's pleasures... Good food and delicious wine that complements it. Paired perfectly with a thick-ass Ribeye.

Consistent with previous notes but took about 1.5 hours to open up in the decanter. Old-world style, straight from Medoc or Graves. Linear, but balanced and well-structured. Acidity and tannins are nicely calibrated. This wine does not take itself too seriously - its a straight-shooter. Cassis, blackberries, plums, pencil lead, pipe tobacco, dark cherries, horse saddle, and wild herbs. Drink 2018-2024. Technical score: 91. Enjoyment score: 91.

Best under $30 cab. Fruit was even and not over powering. The wine was smooth and had a nice medium length finish, Did not need decanting and stayed even over a two hour period as we drank. The only reason not to go higher was that it was not a complex wine. This was my last of these.

Inviting and fragrant nose of blackcurrant coated with dark chocolate, crushed cherries, spicy cinnamon stick and bbq bacon. The wine smells like a meal by itself. Palate is rich, filled with cassis, savoury spices and hints of black licorice in the mid-palate. Already very open for the first 15 mins. This is a robust and full bodied wine with ripe fruit, fresh acidity and fine tannins wrapped around by fat from the grilled beef. Finish is rounded and clean. It is hearty and straightforward, no sophisticated layered profile but it’s delicious. Ready to drink now, it will probably last for another 3 to 5 years offering good drinking pleasure.

Aroma is of black cherries, burgundy, and raspberry. Tastes very dark berry with hints of bell pepper. Long finish with the dark berries and some tannin. Quite good.

Opened and drank with pizza. Good texture, balanced, but simple and one-dimensional. Cassis, fresh cedar, sweet tobacco and red cherries on the nose. The palate brings chocolate raspberries, blackberries, plums, dark chocolate, dried leather, more cedar, and cherry pie into the finish. Old world style and a nice QPR. Drink now through 2022.

Opaque dark crimson color. Plum, cassis, blackberry, candied cherry, wood, dark chocolate and black pepper aromas. Still young but approachable with soft texture. Sweet and mellow taste. Little bit passive. Fairly good concentration, but lacks of complexity, consistency. The wine needs some time. It will develop though the present is simple. Alc. 14.4%

My wife and I really enjoyed this one. I'm wasn't thrilled with their Sonoma version but the Napa is much better. Not very complex, but very smooth and easy to drink! This one surprised me a bit and wasn't expecting it to be all that much....but we definitely enjoyed this and especially at this price point!

Deep and dusty black purple. On the nose blackberry and spice, followed by abundant evergreen, mint and forest elements. Palate is very pure black fruit, currant, spice box, cedar and pipe. A rich and pure Cali cab but not overbearing. Hints of old world elements, a good qpr. More to come.

Opaque purple turning violet at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose gives off black cherry, raspberry, dark licorice, lavender, dark chocolate, and cola. The palate is full-bodied with a silky texture. Flavors are ripe and consistent with the nose but notes of cowhide leather and scorched earth emerge to give this additional complexity. Finishes long with dusty tannin. Very balanced and sumptuous. Great value. Drink now until 2022.

This is filled with cassis, dark fruit, and graphite over notes of licorice, black olives, and dark chocolate. Ultimately it came across as robust, brooding, and coarse in the mouth. Needs time to come together.

A nice Napa Valley CS, although a little bit too much of everything to really be in my taste. Very Fruity, black current. Quite high on acidity, almost ballistic on tannins - probably very nice with food but quite tough when had on its own.

Sweet red and dark fruit, jammy and an abundance of oak. Again there is a dominance of sweet red fruit, black currant, ceder, vanilla oak and some sandy tannins. Nice acidity. This is a generous and vanilla tasting Cabernet Sauvignon. Unfortunately the oak dominates over the grape.

Deep but juicy, approachable but structured, lots of loam, cedar, vanilla and charcoal notes. Straightforward stuff, but very tasty and quite good. Worth a re-taste in two or three years.

Opaque purple color turning bright violet at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose is dense with of rose petals, roasted currants, licorice, smoky vanilla, and cedar chips. The palate is quite tight, rigidly structured, dry but lots of ripe fruit that's imprisoned in the background. Flavors black currants, blueberries, plums, fig, black river stones, Gran Marnier, dark chocolate, scorched earth and dried herbs. Very impressive. Made in the Old World style. Powerful, yet there's enough finesse, layered complexity and balanced acidity to merit an outstanding score. Finishes long, zingy and mentholated with hints of roasted orange zest. Wow. Drink now with a 1-hr decant or better in 2017 up to 2027.

Sporting classic notes of pencil shavings, black currants and mint, and fine dust, Louis Martini's 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is like a no-frills 4-door sedan. Its structure is concentrated on the fore palate, with firm, fine tannins followed by plush blackberries, black Italian plums, figs, spice and anise, thus delivering Napa Cab expression at a reasonable price. There is even a dusting of coco powder on the exhaust pipe. Sample

A Day at Louis Martini (Napa, CA): Medium purple color. More concentrated aromatics, a bit hesitant, but still some nice black cherries and cassis, along with charcoal, wet earth and cedar. Good structure to the tannins but they’re manageable, medium-low acid. Blackberries, blueberries and plum skin with some coconut and vanilla. Saucy and plump, this could use some time to evolve. Still quite nice, especially for the price. Includes some Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot.

Always a crowd pleaser, a dry wine that is just ripe enough for the impression of sweetness and the intensity of fruit, cherry, briar, hints of vanilla and smoke. Modest price, good value.

This is a very tense wine at the moment. The nose presents some nice cassis, blackberry, tobacco and vanilla aromas. On the palate it's like a high-strung toddler who has potential but will take time to mature. High-toned red fruit with prominent acid and tannic structure. This is one to lay down for 3-7 years to see if all the pieces come together. That being said, a delicious wine at the moment and a good value in Napa Cabernet.

Big with Deep dark ruby color. Spice with dark fruit. Good tannins, but a bit acidic initially - needs about 30 minutes to breathe. A good wine, but not as good as I remember it. Not one of my favorites for similar price point wines.
