D1h. Pale metallic yellow, fine mousse. Generous chalky elegant bouquet, yeasty notes, white fruits. Razor sharp harmonious palate, h+A, m-B, bread, elegant long finish. Drink now-2030. Monday Hawksmoor Dinner: In a great place. On opening, a bit of fresh apple, some toast and a hint, a hint, of candied lemon. Opened up over 90 minutes or so - really good stuff. Up there with the 12 Roederer or Taittinger I tasted in the past couple of weeks? No. But not far off, and awesome for a Monday night.

My first of these in a while, and my last bottle from a case. On the nose - you really have to stick your beak in and breathe deep - maybe just a slight oxidative whiff? Perhaps some candied lemon? On the palate - lovely acidity, freshness. Describes itself at extra brut - 5g/l dosage - this is definitely at the fresh end of GM champagne. Coming back for a sniff - maybe the slight oxidative character is more overt? Or maybe I’m just thinking it is? Either way - a lovely drop, the best of these I remember drinking.

If you are still wondering why the richest man on earth is of a significant part a Champagne producer, you have to drink this. From the stellar, rich and succulent 2012 vintage, this wine has quite a lot of the complex Dom Perignon aromas with citrus, flowers and brioche, yet you can feel the 100+ HL/HA cropping on the palate. When you put something like an Agrapart Avizoise (which I had yesterday) next to it, you will know what I am talking about. The palate of this 2012 Moet Millesime is surprisingly thin, especially for the vintage. I guess for the cynical people, the word "Grand Vintage" literally refers to the vintage - who said it has to have anything to do with what they put into the bottle... :-)

from magnum. This bottle has either evolved or is just very different due to the format, since last I tasted it. Quite a different experience now: reductive style, lots of white fruit, and not all too different from dom perignon 2012, except the gunpower thing Dom P has going on... Will try to get a hold of a few more magnums for cellaring.

Danish Top 20 champagne blind tasting vintage 2012 (24 btls) (Nimb): Horisontal half blind tasting of 24 top champagnes from vintage 2012. Conclusion: It is a great vintage. My topratings were to some extent unexpected. My winner was Diebolt-Vallois Fleur de Passion which I rated 96. In a shared second place with 94+ were Legras Saint Vincent (unexpected but I don't forget that 1996 might be the best champagne I have ever tasted so far. Try to get a btl. if you can. It is difficult but worth it - still in a perfect drinking window), Veuve Clicquot vintage(!), Moet & Chandon Grand vintage(!) and Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque.
This wine: For me one of the surprises of this tasting: Much better than expected. I rated it 94+. Notes of coffee, toast, dried fruit, lemon and grapefruit (Bitterness). No apple. Delicate both on the nose and palate.

It is getting better compared to the bottles I had before over the past year and a half. Nose is developing a lovely fruity notes, mixed with citrus and chalk; nose is so complex and Dom Perignon shaped that I still would had loved a more dry and acid finish instead of the sweet soft and round one. This is still developing and taking it shape, in my opinion it has still 3-4 years, if preserved properly.

Fresh, lively and acidic. Certainly refreshing as an aperitif, but lacking much else at this point. Nose mainly of green fruits, apples, pears and a hint of secondary aromas of honey. Palate more basic, and certainly thought it would have evolved more by now. If you’d only tasted this, you may struggle to see what the fuss is about with the 2012 vintage.
Appears to still be young but there is aging potential here hence the +. Probably won’t bother to open another bottle for another 4-5 years.

Third bottle of the box. Unexpectedly it is getting better. A little more oxidation on the nose that helps notes of nuts and almonds to come out; pineapple and dried apple notes, chalk, vanilla and some greenish hints. More complex. Acidity and gas with lingering persistence. I suggest to drink It a little hotter than “usual” (better at 12-15 C.)

Really good, clean, bright, balanced blend of PN and Chard me thinks, long, structured. if lacking anything it would just be maybe a little too clean, lacking in character, although the elegance is a virtue as well. Hard to appreciate at a noisy dinner party with tons of bottles being passed around. Hedonists at Katana.

Gold colour. Fine mousse. Toast, brioche (6 years on the lees) underpinned with floral, apple, pear notes that develop on the pronounced palate . low intensity nose. MLF induced creaminess, high acidity (natch), well balanced and a long finish. 2012 was one of the best years for a long time for champers. Drinking this spoils you for the dull Brut Imperial offering from Moët.

First bottle of the box. Dom Perignon’s little brother. Pale yellow with consistent perlage. Fruity and sweet notes with some citrus hints. Creamy palate with perfect counted bubbles. Fantastic corrispondence nose/mouth, with nice persistency. Thought was a bit more acid actually. Next bottle in a few weeks so I prefer to wait for the “sentence”

High Steaks Saturday: Rich, lively, well balanced. Thoroughly enjoyable - and an incredible bargain at a supermarket 25% off offer. Enjoyed while using the deep fat fryer in the garden in very low light. Pleased to report that no injuries were sustained.
This was very good - rich and lively, but it had nowhere near the depth and toastiness of the stunning bottle drunk two days previously. From the same case. No difference in glasses or serving temperature. I continue to be baffled by the variability of Moet GV.

Aromas of smoke, ginger, shortbread and slate. Flavors of Quince, mineral, slate and star fruit. Ends with a mineral drive finish of 25+ seconds. This is exacting and austere but punches nice through the finish. Think I will hold off opening another one of these for a while to see if some age adds complexity.

typical Moet Chandon style with the power of 2012 which makes this Great Vintage a medium to full body champagne with a nice minerality and a truly balanced acidity. Very well executed and enjoyable. In a late afternoon best paired with bread butter and anchovies, with the lockdown being a memory whose memories have nonetheless faded away

This 2012 Moet & Chandon Grand Vintage Collection is the latest release of Moet & Chandon, and it is showing even more substance than the 2008 next to it. Ripe tree fruits and intense lemons with refreshing acidity. Young and tight but already showing good substance and weight, time will most likely be better than 2008 in the long run. Needs time. (87/100)
Very bready/yeasty with green sour apples and lime on the nose. Taste is similar, and rather sweet when taking the low dosage into account. Overall very simple. Not a memorable wine at all in my opinion, atleast not at this point (don't know if it'll get better). Reminds me of decent cremant. Hopefully the next bottle is more exciting.
I really enjoyed this. Very fresh and vibrant with lots of nice lemon and citrus notes. Drinking well straight out the bottle and whilst primary, easy to drink now with the confidence this has some years ahead of it. Great acidity and nicely balanced. I think the Moet GV is one of the best QPRs in champagne. I preferred this to the Dom Perignon 2009
Tasted over 2 days with the 2012 Roederer and the 2012 Tattinger. I think this placed 3rd accross the board. It drinks well now, probably better than all but the Tattinger in particular, but just didn't distinguish itself from the other two. Perfectly good but not great. B+/A-

Kind of lost between the Vilmart Coeur de Cuvee and the Veuve La Grande Dame, but stylistically in between. It was not nearly as focused as the Vilmart, and not nearly as rich as tbe Veuve. Actually came off as kind of simple, but maybe we should have started with this instead of Vilmart.

Aged 5+ years, this blend of 41% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir, and 26% Pinot Meunier has intense aromatics featuring complex savoury, leesy, earthy, pastry, brioche, and lightly toasty aromas with some maturity. It is medium-bodied with a crisp, finely textured mouthfeel. Lemony acids with tangy, grapefruit notes brighten the palate. Well-balanced throughout with a long, fruity finish.

2019 MW Champagne Tasting, nose of pear, peach, slate, and hazelnut, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, mouth filling fruit, slightly creamy texture, good acid, both suggest 4 years cellar time to peak tasting and earn a higher score, rich fruit, pedigree, showing well today against many peers, both flavorful and subtle in its youth, and a long, long finish.

Visiting London, Galway, Dublin and Paris; 9/14/2019-9/29/2019 (England, Ireland and France): Straw-colored and quite vibrant, Moët & Chandon's 2012 Grand Vintage Brut (a blend of 41% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir and 26% Pinot Meunier) offers a nice array of pit fruits, green apples, brioche, honeysuckle and marzipan. Medium-bodied, crisply acidic and with a brisk small bead, it delivers its flavors with a creamy yet energetic mouthfeel that persists throughout a medium-length finish. This should show well through the next decade. Drink now-2030.

Floral and fruity nose full of citrus fruit, honey, and lily flowers; acidic and fruity on the palate, citrus fruits, roasted nuts and toasts, yeasts, and wet pebbles; long finish with lasting fine bubbles; overall, 91-92 points at this stage; should evolve further in a few more years; tasted at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal in London.
A private lunch (Restaurant Voltaire *, Parc Broekhuizen, Leersum, NL): Quite rich bit slightly monolithic at present, not as expressive as e.g. the 2006, but not as reticent as the 2008, and with relatively little Meunier influence. Should turn out well with 2-3 years of post disgorgement ageing.

Sensational! Deep, rich, grippy, lots of power and ripeness. Helped by being served not too cold. These GVs seem to vary so much, but the highs are very high.

Excellent sharpener. Balanced palate - without wishing to damn with faint praise - this is an excellent, well put together champagne which doesn't thrill, but nor does it grate. Perfect start to the evening. Seems open and ready for business just now - hopefully it will stay that way for a little while.

Rich nose of toasted hazelnut and almonds. Lush and lively in the mouth with fine perlage and a briochy roundness. Elegant creamy finish. A definite cut above the standard NV

Safely Summer Sort of Picnicking (Siggy & Jenny's Place, Mpls, MN): Light gold color. Small glass. This was drinking quite well in its youth. Glad to try this with a few in my own stash. Plenty yeasty but not toasty yet, medium plus body, pear, crisp and fresh. Promising. Wait 2+ years minimum, these age well. 91(+)pts.

Needs time.

Very lemony nose, herbs
Beautiful soft bubbles,
Lean and serious on the nose initially, reminds me of some low dosage grower champagne. Very gastronomic. Then long and toasty.
Very good wine, elegant.
5g dosage.

Against the 2012 roederer and this was very different, and 2nd place. This was clean light and crisp and apply, green apples. Just a light crispy zippy wine. Very fine but just boring and austere compared to the roederer. Too well behaved for me tonight.

Woodwinters Edinburgh Fine Wine Bash (Woodwinters Edinburgh): Tasted blind. Ivory colour. Rather toasty, plenty of lemon, chalky, with white flowers and maybe greengage skin? Delicious, quite honeyed, sweet lemon. Was a real surprise when the producer was revealed - this is lovely right now. [12.5% abv; RRP £40-60].

Great vintage - here for the long life but can be enjoyed already! The dossage of 5.5% gives the wine a great balance between dryness and fruitiness.
