I haven’t had this in a few years, and it has developped beautifully. Notes ofgraphite, tobacco, some dark cherries, also some leather, cigar tobacco, some crushed violets. It‘s medium-full bodied, with very good persistence, but not heavy at the same time. It has pretty high acidity, providing excellent freshness, it has lowish tannin and good length. A very pretty Freisa that is drinking like pure silk at the moment. Really impressive. I would drink this over the next 3+ years or so, as long as it is vibrant and aromatic.

Fresh, fruity and vibrant with gorgeous ruffled tannins, developing a velvety texture tasting of bright red cherry, with an excellent finish. This has matured beautifully, showing little signs of age and is now giving great pleasure. CHP 92 pts

Deep garnet with bricking, clean. Intense nose of wet leave, earth, mushrooms, tabak, leather, slight char, bright red cherry (still), dried strawberry. On the palate, high acidity, high fine grain tannins, full body, explosion of structure but finesse at the same time. Long finish. Outstanding wine. Drink now.

Went very well with a boar salami and a rabbit in red wine. Cherries and blueberries on the nose and pretty concentrated and intense on the palate. We opened it about 3 hours before dinner and it definitely benefited from it. No rush to drink this.

Elegant nose, red fruit upfront cranberries, cherries intertwined with menthol, crushed violets and wet stones. Really fresh but with a nice leather and long smokey aftertaste.

Intensely perfumed notes of graphite, tobacco, plum, some cherries, leather, smoke, cigar, but also some violets. It‘s medium-full bodied, pretty dense, but not heavy at the same time. It has medium-high acidity, medium- tannin and good length. A pretty, balanced and fascinating Freisa and still probably my favorite Freisa (even if it‘s not the most typical one).

Decanted the wine for 2 hours, which was important. On the nose, cherries. The taste profile was lovely--classic old world wine; some cedar shavings, a hint of pine needles and a very nice, lingering acid finish.

Elegant is a good description. Floral nose and effervescence give way to light fruit. There's a solid tannic foundation which magically does not overpower the wine's delicacy. Don't recall prior exposure to this varietal. I'm guessing it's more closely related to the wines of Chieri than Barolo's Nebbiolo. Look forward to more.

Visit to G.D. Vajra with Francesca Vaira (Vergne, Barolo): A noticeably breezier, more wild nose, with calcium traces. Quite a pure wine with Smooth, suave tannins, minerality and more racy acids than the 2012 Baroli. Lighter bodied, quite elegant. An earlier drinking wine but would cellar, I would think.

At the winery: Great light delicate spices, a touch of wild herbs; licorice, wild berry; big tannins (nebbiolo ancestry talking?)medium body, spicy finish. Very nice, delish alternative to Nebbiolo and a bit simpler, spicier. Freisa is related to Nebbiolo once upon a time.

The 2012 Freisa Kye is a much fresher and polished effort than I’ve come to expect. Here, the bouquet is floral, dark-fruited and fresh in its minerality. On the palate, acid-driven textures gave way to dark fruits with a coating of very-fine tannin across the senses, which provided a very polished but currently monolithic sensation. It finished fresh and floral. Giuseppe mentioned to me that the vintage provided a much more feminine and lighter expression of Freisa Kye. In the end, it’s an incredibly pretty wine.

Explosive notes of crushed violets and roses, sweet dark red cherries, tobacco, cigar smoke, sweet spices/cinnamon, some herbs and some tar. It's medium-full bodied and dense, without being heavy despite the pretty high alcohol. It has nice medium-high acidity providing freshness and medium+ tannin adding grip. Great length. An excellent Freisa that will probably taste great right out of the gate but can also age for quite a few years. I really like it a lot. (93+)

Dinner with Peg and Rick at Stella's in Traverse City, certainly one of the top restaurants in Michigan. No notes but we really enjoyed the wine.

Q1 - 2017 Tasting - Starts with the Letter.... (notes from another taster) (New York, NY): #16 of 17 wines tasted double blind (NOTE THERE WAS NO #15) - Minimal note taking a this point. I noted that this tasted very youthful and had a juicy quality to mouthfeel. I liked it but not a stand out at this point in the line up. Group voted 5 pennies.
