Sweet, but with a fair dose of minerality and also acidity. Petrol notes emerging, but will get more profound with age. Big lemon meringue pie vibe going on at this stage.

A bit more balance and structure than WS bottling of the same vintage. For all of the hype about Doctor as the best Riesling site in Mosel (if not the entire DE), I don't taste a large gap between two sites in Wegeler's 05 construction.

Bolognese and doughnuts (Tim's, SF): So good! Medium yellow color with reflections of gold and straw. Beautiful petrol, slightly wilted flowers, saffron-wax botrytis, slightly bruised lemon (developed)
Feels 8% (correct), 40g/L RS. Medium plus acid, strong mineral notes - like flat Pellegrino on the midpalate just before the finish. Beautiful stony midpalate.
103 Oechsle

Palate: Low alcohol and moderate RS - feels 15-20g/L (Spatlese). Some development - dried lemon. Very long - superb length.
Called: 2010 Spatlese Riesling, Mosel
2005 Wegeler Bernkasteler Doctor Spatlese - I misread the age, but otherwise was close. - My read on RS was probably too low - it's probably closer to 30-40g/L

Coravin Marathon with Tim, Ben, Michael (Wingtip): (blind) Moderate concentration gold. Strong petrol on the nose. Floral and waxy and golden. Very slight botrytis (saffron). Expressive and singing on the nose.
Diminished alcohol - 10%? (actually 8%) Well-balanced with high acid. Elegant waxiness on the palate.

A beautifully nuanced, rich wine. Sweet, yes, but not overly so, with enough minerality and depth of flavor to make it food friendly.

For me this is pretty ripe - Auslese level.
called: Mosel Riesling > Auslese ripeness, 1990
actual: Mosel Riesling > Spatlese, 2005

Good clean balanced Riesling with sweetness for sure, probably should have waited longer still to let the petrol develop and sweetness mellow.

Exotic nose of white flowers, candied lemon, spice and honey. Sweet but not cloying, a nice Spat'...

(2/5) Quite sweet but well-made. This bottle didn't show a lot of acidity, which I think would have helped. I think I'd prefer this as a dessert wine.

Bright pear with nice ripeness. Good acidity to offset the residual sweetness.

Rudi Weist German Tasting (presented by David Bowler) (Tribeca Grill): maybe its just me...but i expect so much from this vineyard...and i keep getting let down... this was the chink in the armor for the lineup. balanced but boring.
