2nd bottle of mine celebrating LF’s Bday at Maillard 30.11.2023.
Rather intoxicated by now 😅, PnP this at least 1 hr before we started drinking this. Roasted barley & chestnut, dark fruit, deep earthy & clay minerality, cocoa, chocolate & purple flowers. Good density on the palate with lots of red fruit & mushroom savory notes on the finish.

Nose shouts quality from the get go, straight from Corovin. Lovely cassis and purple fruit, violet, loamy earth, dash of mint. and hint of truffle. Palate is beautifully balanced, with red and blue fruits, red spices silky smooth, fresh and delicious…..Wow this is good. Has a decently long finish, on a par with second growth at least, I can only imagine what the grand vin will be like in time. Highly recommended.

PNP. Has blossomed with multiple layers of flavors, balanced throughout. Definitely in it's drinking window.Drastic improvement over the last time I tasted 5 years ago.

On the nose: notes of tar, deep leather. After one and a half hours, nose became more complex showing notes of mushroom, earth, deep strawberry, dark fruit. On the palate: very smooth, light bodied. Very satisfying Left Bank experience. Drink now.

Much darker in colour than the 2004 Vieux Chateau Certan tasted alongside. Juicy, ripe, notes of eucalyptus, spices, tobacco on the nose. On the palate grippy and quote tannic, ripe, powerful, but a little hollow and extracted with good length. Drink or keep. 91-93

La Mission Haut Brion with Jean-Philippe Delmas (Vaucluse Townhouse, New York): Beautiful wine. A big step up from the 2009 and 2010 with a few more years of bottle age. Dark blackberry fruit and olive tapenade. Chocolate and eucalyptus. Still pretty tannic today but no doubt those will melt away in the future. Very nice.

From magnum, this was pretty much identical to my note from May, so I'll copy & paste:
Notes of black currants, herbs and dark, fruit. Really nice dark berry fruit on the palate with medium tannins and a nice finish. Sadly, it has no sense of place- this could be a nice Cab blend from just about anywhere.

Wow! The pedigree is here. Only my second 2005 to try thus far. 375ml bottle. Bright red ruby colour. On the nose, tar, minerality, rocks.. Reminds me of a mid aged napa cab sav but with more secondary flavours. On the palette, medium rich red mighty 2005 fruit. The tannins are still grippy but not annoying at all. The finish is very smooth and polished.
What I'm enjoying the most is the quality of this wine producer. Even though it easily has many years, you know the quality is here! Even popping out the cork was so tight. The pop sound was loud. I can imagine this would be a Mission Haut Brion in a classic year. I appreciate it's high ranking in Bordeaux.

The nose is a clear display of a classy estate, high toned fruit, graphite, spice box and shells...cool-polished black raspberries, pencil shavings, crisp acids, generous minerality, saline notes, tannins are still a bit tight on the finish, would never guess '05 vintage... very enjoyable 90-92

Popped and poured directly from cellar. Pleasant wine, medium ruby, clearly Bordeaux. Near maturity. Typical Graves nose: dusty, gravel, pencil, dark fruit, coffee, tobacco and some Asian herbs. Good acidity and soft tannins promise may more years of pleasant drinking.

Bordeaux 2005 (@ DJ): Deep purple color. Beautiful bouquet with a lot of dark fruits, cedar and cigar box. A mouth full of wine, with loads of cassis, chocolate, plums and the same luxurious elements as in the bouquet. Still a lot of firm tannin. Beautiful classical, complex and luxurious Bdx. A wine that makes you feel happy, although it will definitely improve with another 5+ years of ageing.

My last bottle of this and again, it was outstanding. What makes this wine so good is its unique pencil shavings / graphite character that is complemented with leather, earth, and finesse black currant / cassis flavors and a nose that's terrific. The price was good too, back then so that only enhances the pleasure. Although it can last in the cellar, it's drinking beautifully right now.

A sleeper for sure. Forget that this is a second wine. To me it drinks like a first. The nose still has traces of new oak but has the Graves character you would expect from the house. Smoke, tar and cassis can be detected. The palate is tight and tannic but yields ample fruit and the tension that I often find in the Grand Vin La Mission. The finish is that of a wine in balance but also in need of several more years in bottle. This wine is large-scaled and complex for a second wine. IT should get better and is a great value!

Beautiful and complex bouquet with cassis, toasted oak and lead pencil. Firm cassis juice and good tannin which is soft, but also has a bite. This wine needs at least another 5 years of cellaring and will probably drink well into the mid 2020's. 90-91+

Remarkable nose of smoke, graphite, tobacco and cassis. This has been open and decanted for more than 4 hours, but it's still a tannic monster of a wine. At first, I thought the fruit could never catch up with the tannins, but as the wine keeps opening up, it keeps gaining balance. Apart from the obvious tannins, this displays a minerality, that I don't usually find typical for Bordeaux. Extremely feminine and elegant in a good way while clearly fully ripe and sappy. The texture is more like silk than velvet and the acid gives this wine freshness and lift. By far the best second wine from Bordeaux I've ever had and one, that I think will need 10 years to drink well. If I had a case, I'd be thrilled.
