Pale to medium ruby Aromatics medium +. Sweet raspberry, medicinal cherry, candied grape. No oak Palate medium body. Acid medium +. Tannins medium, fine on teeth and gums. Alcohol medium +. Tart and sweet red berries. Milder medicinal cherry. Some green stem notes towards the end. Finish has a medium length. Balance seems a bit disjointed. I wonder if it's the alcohol. A bit too ripe for my taste also Drink now.

My first bottle of this in 10 years. The aromas are quite soft, expressing some soft, old berries, cooking mushrooms with some soil still attached, and a nice bit of briar and spice. Palate entry certainly shows its age more than I would expect for only 10 years old, but that has been some of my experience with 2008. The fruit feels excessively aged, shows some nice spice, tart berry notes, decent acidity and just slight tannins. A nice big wall of acidity on the finish; nice spice and intensity after you hold it in the mouth for a while to allow that to fully develop. The finish is rich and spicy. I'm thinking I would have preferred this about 5 years into into its development than over 10... and generally I'm a guy that prefers aged wine!
Popped & poured with the Goldsteins. The wine is showing its age. Bit of a funky nose of cherries and earth. This wine is fully mature. Cherry fruit is muted, earth tones predominate, nice spice and decent length. Drink up
Very Burgundian. Funky Pinot nose, you know what I mean! Old school. Nice light ruby color, almost no bricking! Medium body, medium finish. Very good spiciness to the palate with minerality. Smell it again, pinotphile heaven! Time to drink, fully mature.

Still sour - even now. I've gone through almost a case of this wine, some good bottles, but also a lot of thin, sour ones. This one had good cranberry fruit flavors hidden behind a wall of acidity - not much else to say. Improved after 30+ minutes of airtime, but not enough to recommend.
Ruby clear color Medium aromatics of candy grape with some earth Palate of medium acidity, medium minus tannin. Tart cherry. Short finish Not too memorable

In a weird place now, seemingly closed in on itself but at the same time showing signs of secondary development. I'll let the remaining bottles rest a few more years.
Decanted for two hours; no sediment. Clear garnet color. Lovely nose of ripe cherries and spices. Light-to-medium bodied red fruit on the palate, brightened by good acidity. A pleasing fruity medium-length finish. All in all, a quite nice wine with a good QPR at $28.00. I'd be surprised if this further improves with age, but it should drink nicely for several more years.

The bottle variation on this wine has been huge in spite of them all being from a single case I purchased in 2010 and stored in a temp controlled cellar. Unlike many prior bottles, this was terrific. Dark berry/cherry fruits, spice, bramble, earth and mushrooms with a lean, silky texture, nice depth and a lingering finish. Nice balance and a good, firm grip. Very much a classic Oregon pinot in style, and a very welcome surprise.
This wine changed considerably with time in glass, initially it was showing lots of earth and mushroom on the nose, over time the nose is all tart cherries and roses with a musty, loamy note. In the mouth it is lighter bodied, showing young cherries with an dark earthy note under the fruit flavors. The fruit turns tart and lightly sour as the wine finishes. Once the fruit flavors relax, there is a light earthy, mushroom note. The acid is fine and pairs nicely with the fruit flavors, tannins are present but not aggressive. Overall a nice wine, showing a bit closed tonight in my opinion. It shows good complexity and nuance, perhaps more time in bottle will relax the tart, near sour edge the fruit currently shows.

This was the first of 6 bottles purchased on release. After reading through the earlier notes here, it seemed that a long aeration was in order and this was decanted for 2-1/2 hours leaving a medium to light amount of sediment. Clear medium ruby color with no browning at the edges. Subtle red fruit aromatics with suggestions of earth and baking spices. Medium weight with smooth tannins, crisp acidity, bashful flavors of red raspberry, strawberry, dried leaf, and moist earth that started out well delineated then became somewhat muddled in the middle. As we progressed through dinner it did however open up and seemed to gain focus and breadth on the palate. Even though I was expecting something more exotic and assertive, there was an underlying sophistication that I found quite enjoyable and a very good companion to the salmon with maple and tamari glaze, oven roasted cauliflower, and sautéed snow peas with shallots. While this was certainly a restrained presentment, it was laudable in its balance and purity. It also seemed to have a coiled energy that suggests it is still waiting to blossom. This is no “shock and awe” wine but I think it might surprise a few of the harsher critics in a few years with greater depth and complexity. 90 points now with upside potential as it emerges from this lean adolescent stage.
UPDATE: 12/15/2016 Almost 3 years later and this doesn’t seem to have changed much if at all. I had hoped that it would show more presentment with a couple of years, but it hasn’t. Again paired to salmon with maple and tamari glaze, my impressions are essentially unchanged from the 2014 bottle. I am still looking for a little more depth and complexity in this. Though somewhat disappointing, I would still stay with the 90 point score.

Nice nose of dark fruits, earth and spice. However, another disappointing bottle on the palate. Sour and bitter flavors dominate along with a lean, somewhat thin body. Very little fruit and not much depth. Not much to like about either the texture or flavors. Huge bottle variation as I have had several good ones and several bad ones - this one bordered on undrinkable.

Decanted for 4 hours. Black cherry, mushroom and a medicinal note on the nose. Nicely textured in the mouth with good acidity, fruit and tannin balance. I see promise, but it's currently lacking integration and nuance I expect from Eyrie. Definitely has the stuffing to age, so I imagine this will benefit from at least a couple more years rest.

Popped and poured and drank over 4 hours. Nose was very earthy. This is light bodied with cherry and raspberries with underlying earth notes. It opened up throughout the night, but it is still a little tight and I will let my other bottle sit for a couple of years. Room to improve, but not much.

Tart and simple after a one hour decant. Very weak aromatics. Very simple palate profile – 85pts. After two hours aromatically became more intense and palate wise more spicy and complex. I bought 6 based of Tanzer and RP scores – this was my first of six and very disappointed for MY profile. We also had a 08 Kosta Browne RRV 08 which with its fruit forward was not only better as a sipper but better with the copper river salmon we had. The Oregon Pinot was more “burgundy like” but the lower fruit profile as compared to the KB RRV was not as enjoyable for 4 of us. Will not be buying the upcoming classic 2012 OR vintage. I will always enjoy this style of wine (especially w food) …. but enjoy the KB and even more. the KB Sonoma Coast Pinot profile adds a compromise in between the two.

Simple, grapy, and forgettable. The Eyrie didn't look, smell, or taste of pinot noir but more of a mish mash of varietals grown somewhere in central Oregon. I shan't be looking to buy more of this and if offered a glass I might turn it down in favor of a light beer. To put it in one word: boring. I'm sad.

Much better than prior bottles - this bottle had none of the sourness I experienced previously. Lots of sweet ripe, red and dark fruit with a medium body, excellent balance, smooth edges and a medium, fruity finish. Has just a touch of typical Oregon earth and leanness. 90+

Coiled and powerful. Probably needs 2 more years at least. After 2 hour decant very nice clarity and delination but still coiled and needing to unwind. red cherry and mineral with a poweful mouth coating finish. Terrific potential. Drank very nice but really want to see how these develop. Might have picked Burgundy if had it blind...

I had a similar experience with this bottle that I have had with previous ones. Tight and rather sour without much fruit, a bit of bramble and a lean texture. Only had one glass and then vacuumed and put in refrigerator. Two days later I poured another glass and had a a very different experience. Much bigger and riper fruit, more concentration, bigger body and more texture. Still a hint of sourness, but now pushed into the background. This was very enjoyable. Perhaps it just meeds more time. 90+ It will merit another point or two if the sourness disappears.

A somewhat disappointing bottle and similar to a prior one. Interesting, although not completely enjoyable nose of cloves and other spices. Tight and sour with some bramble and not much fruit. Medium body, good structure, smooth texture and a long sour finish. I think this is too young, but I am doubtful this will ever blossom into the wine I expected. Update: left it overnight and then tried again. Better than day before, with more fruit on the nose and more body, however, still somewhat sour.

This was my first bottle of this wine and it was very disappointing. Did not take notes, but this was rather unpleasant on opening - very tight, sour and thin. Poured thru a vinturi and let sit for about an hour. It improved, but not enough to recommend. It remained overly tart, out of balance and generally disjointed. I hope it was flawed because there is no way this was a 92-93 point wine as rated by RP & ST.

Lots of funk/sulfur on the nose on opening, herbal tones and a little VA. Fruit is OK, sour cherry and some flavors that aren't integrated yet. Doesn't really develop across the palette, but the tannins are OK. Meh....

Probably drank this young, but it was intriguing nonetheless. High toned red fruit abound here with prevalent acidity and subtle dusty tannins. The finish doesn't really go anywhere, unfortunately, but i think this is just unresolved at present. This is my only bottle, so will be curious to read notes in 3 to 5 years.

while the 2007 Orignial vines holds a distinguished position among my favorite Oregon Pinots of late (I live in Oregon), this 2008 Estate is rather pedestrian in comparison. Which is not to say, it's not delicious. It renders that Eyrie distinctivness with forest floor, graphite, redish fruit, just ripe salmon berry, but the depth is not as profound as the 2007 Original Vines. Minerality shows. . . fruit is not at the forefront like so many '08 Oreogn Pinots. . . character mellows at the finish with an acid tartness that masks the nuance I would love to see. . .

Lots of sulfur on the nose that starts stinky and mostly blows off after an hour in the glass, but not completely. Light-bodied, soft textured, with tart strawberries and raspberries. Love the acidity, elegant red fruit and baking spice on the finish. There is a bit of hollowness between the midpalate and finish though. That and the nose were a little disappointing. I'll wait a year or two before opening another bottle, I'd recommend a decant if opening soon.

Scott Paul for early 2000 Burgs, Eyrie, and Vista Hills: Very nice, soft, pleasing nose. Fairly bright fruit. The red fruit carries onto the palate, which is pleasing and soft. Really nice balance and texture. More toned down than many 2008s out there... almost a mix of 2007 and 2008. Good, sweet tannins on the finish. Awesome acid. Really nice balance and bright fruit. Definitely one for the cellar.

VLG Does Pinot Blind ... No Parameters (The Home Office): Served blind. A bit reductive at this stage. This needs a few years. My impression is that it won't be mind blowing but a ver good wine. I picked up a few extras after this tasting. Big fruit and acid with a nice dose of tannin. Wait 4 years.

VLG Does Pinots Blind (Jason Hagen's office): Served blind. Stanky reduction aromas. Tight lean and juicy with strong length. There are some earthy notes and late tartness. I guessed Oregon. This needs some time but a nice basic Pinot is in here.

This has a great nose with intense scents of full, ripe cherries and grapefruit all resting atop of a lovely minerality. The fruit blows up on the palate while retaining delicacy. Blackberries show first on contact, and some rhubarb flavors come in on the mid palate. Both flavors blend together and run out wonderfully. The tannins are lower, but balanced well with the experience. The acidity is full, and balanced as well. The evolution of the fruit, and the blending of the blackberry and rhubarb notes is quite wonderful.

It renders that Eyrie distinctivness with forest floor, graphite, redish fruit, just ripe salmon berry, but the depth is not as profound as the 2007 Original Vines. Minerality shows. . . fruit is not at the forefront like so many '08 Oreogn Pinots. . . character mellows at the finish with an acid tartness that masks the nuance I would love to see. . .

Cherry, earth, bit of heat, acidity, more sappy, dense on d2, give time

Needed a good bit of air before it softened up, a few hours after opening. Then it was very nice indeed.

Nice earthy Pinot. Really opened up after about two hours. A wonderful Pinot from a classic Oregon producer

Really nice wine from the dundee hills which is the Oregon equivalent to Chambolle... without musigny and bonn mare.
