Then we move on to the big boys. Already generous on first pour. Plush ripe rosy fruits and that occasional whiffs of barnyard. This really builds on the weight and stature at the back, finishes long and strong. Not the best Burlotto but already good enough for me.

Old Guys lunch on Ciao Bella's lovely patio (CV, DM, TS, JV, DD, LS, KB). 80 degrees Friday & 45 degrees Saturday :). We got super lucky Friday by MN standards. My btl and quite disappointing in its awkward current state. This was fricken beautiful 4yrs ago on release!?!? I decanted it 3hrs before leaving for Ciao Bella and removed the cork 45 mins again before drinking. From my Burg glass. Once again finding the right drinking window and ideal air for Barolo is as elusive as catching an old Brown Trout on dry fly. For me anyhow:). If I scored it now it would be 85-87pts. Rough ride on the structure & fairly closed.
Old Guys Lunch: Hittin' the Patio (Ciao Bella, Mpls): Dark red color, 5mm margin. Drank a glass over an hour plus. Gravel, mineral, ripe berries, firm, ground spices, cherry, lots of grip still. Very youthful still. 91+ to 92(+)pts.

Slightly underwhelming. Pleasant, well balanced, hints of herbs and good acidity. Tar and Roses ? No, so not much typicity. Had with kale & mushroom lasagne (it’s a thing). Didn’t shine with food. Still, nice enough

The 2012 Burlotto Barolo Acclivi is a good wine but still a bit tight, so give it a good decant. I popped and poured, which I will not do for the next one. This wine has a fragrant entry of roses, herbs and spices, and it is lively with plenty of detail and finesse on the palate. The 2012s are not as exuberant as other surrounding vintages but is nevertheless a solid one. As in other vintages this is a useful half-way house/stepping stone between the normale on the one hand and the Mongivliero and Cannubi on the other. You can drink these with pleasure now, but they should continue to improve.

An expressive and highly perfumed nose of rose petals, raspberries and cherries. It is mid-weight, elegant and silky, with terrific detail and finesse. Each sip unlocks another subtle nuance and the finish is dry and persistent.

Nitpicking for sure, but I prefer the 2011 Barolo, 2012 Barolo, and the 2013 Acclivi to the 2012 Acclivi; the 2102 Acclivi is austere with tannic structure simialr to the 2014 Barolo. Not much else I can add that hasn't already been stated, so I will just get to the evaluation: A- (91).

Dark cherry appearance, liqorice, tar, soil, dark plum, bitter dark cherry, rose bush nose. Slow oxed for 3 hours, Very tight through the attack and mid-palate. This is closed down for me now. I would leave this for another 4 years but don’t think it will be the longest lived of wines.

Opened at 2:30, took a small test pour and slow oxed in btl having broke my decanter the day before and needing to replace it soon :). Overall this saw 4 hours plus of slow ox before seriously drinking it with Nita's homemade pizza and our extended family. I nearly put the cork right back in after opening as it was gorgeous upon opening. In fact, about 2 hours in it had even closed a bit but, by dinner time, it was singing again. So I have doubts as to exactly how much air this needs and think PnP may be just fine. Semi translucent ruby red color with slightly orange edges. Perfuse aromas of roses, tobacco, spice, eucalyptus and red fruit. A gorgeous silky harmonious, elegant palate with a ethereal complex range of red fruit, tar, licorice, tobacco, and mineral. I loved this wine tonight! And while the alc is listed at 14% on the label this felt, tasted and smelled more like a subtle 12.5% from climates of yore. 93pts+/94pts- right now, for me. Fine to drink now or hold for further evolution. I'm fortunate to own two more.

Decanted three hours before serving. A delicate, feminine barolo, which is already approachable. On the fragrant nose sweet cherries, menthol, roses and spices. On the palate this is silky, harmonious and of chambollesque elegance. Remarkable bright and ethereal, yet not lightweight or thin. Simply delicious.

Bottle was either slightly flawed or it’s just very awkward. Traditional Burlotto color and intensity — light reddish orange. But the nose is quite ripe and musty. Folks really sensitive to cork taint tasted and said it wasn’t corked, but was just unbalanced. Not consistent with my experience with other burlotto bottles, so we’ll have to see how the others are! Palate is super ripe cherries, a little bit of rose petal, and that musty mysterious earth character, with a medium finish. 2010 barolo normale was much better a week ago. Fascinating if it’s vintage variation.
Based on the other notes—looks like my bottle is weird! Will try 2011 next and see if I can revisit 2012.

The 2012 G.B. Burlotto Barolo Acclivi has a deeply perfumed bouquet with strawberry, menthol and baking spices lifting from the glass. The wine's sharp acidity and youthful tannins stand out on the palate, and fresh red fruit flavors persist on a pleasantly drawn out finish. Hold.

Fairly closed aromatics. Very acid driven on the palate, with the freshness somewhat overwhelming, though it also shows good light to medium red fruit and spice underneath. Good firm tannins on the back. Should have a long life ahead.

Tasting, brief note. While similar to the entry level Barolo just tasted, this is both more refined while also more powerful, but in a sneaky and elegant way. Good cross-section of red fruit here on nose and palate, with the structure, fruit and spice in good harmony, even if slightly backward. Long finish foreshadows this wine's good potential. I enjoyed it more today vs the entry Barolo, but also think it will be well served from 5-20 years in the cellar.

Opened in the bottle for about 6 hours. Obviously super young but also (fortunately) extremely fresh. Nothing but strawberry, cherry, iron, and earthiness on the nose. The palate follows suit with the addition of mouth drying tannins. Not a total loss to drink young but needs at least 5 years.

Burlotto Barolo Acclivi 2012: This is not at the Monvigliero or Cannubi level in 2012 but much better showing than a prior bottle: great red fruit aromatics that are the 2012 vintage trademark; lots of strawberry on the nose (reminding me of a recent Brezza Sarmassa nose), earthy and mineral with a bit of sandy tannins but generally much more harmonious than I remembered.

Really enjoyed this slow ox for about 4 hours and another two in the decanter, lots of dark cherries, dried earth, red florals, strawberry with a sense it was still holding back! Palate was fresh and vibrant with lots of red berry, tar, iron? medium plus acidity, lots of persistence/concentration and a solid finish. Yes the tannins were present and let themselves be know but they're not harsh or excessively aggressive and are expected to soften with time to yield a more elegant experience. Paired wonderfully with braised short ribs!

Taste: Medium bodied with high acidity and high tannins. The tannins are extremely youthful, but with a rounded quality to them while the acidity is extremely tart at this time. The feel is refined and elegant with violets, rose petals, roasted herbs, spice tones, strawberries, and sweet red cherries.
Overall: This is in certain need of time to fully come together. The feel and aromatics are there, but the structure is extremely youthful and this will require the better part of another 5-8 years of aging at the least.

(magnum) A story about the greatness that is Burlotto, and the greatness of the Langhe and of the Nebbiolo grape, all in one book. But to power read this book would be to miss the point. Let me explain. I opened this on Friday morning, left in decanter for 10 hours before returning to bottle and serving the following day at 2pm. Yes, the wine was nice, it showed well, as expected, but it didn't wow me, and it wasn't overly memorable. But, by the final chapter, some 5 days later, the last 1/3 of the bottle (stored at room temp, mind you) was just out of this world good. Such elegance, with depth and beauty to spare. I was not worthy then, and can't say I am now. Bravo to all on the Burlotto team, this was such a memorable experience. Thru 2035; no problem, I should think. highly recommended

Visit to Comm. G.B. Burlotto (Verduno, CN): One of the finest Acclivi I've had, maybe the finest, but for my palate, it needs more time in the bottle. In the past I've picked up one or two each year, but I think in this vintage I'll be doubling up, at least. I'll wait 3-4 years, and then plan to enjoy the rest over the next 12-15. The future for this one is quite bright. Structured, elegant and clean, this is packing a lot of potential on the future complexity scale. 14,0% abv., (resolved). Highly recommended
