Great CC. In prime window now. PnP today and was just excellent. Still a nice bite from tannins and lots to unfold on palate. Will easily keep for another 5 years

My second bottle of L 6216, the first was one year ago. This wine is still too young, barely in its optimal drinking window. I would suggest having it 2025 to 2035+. If you open it now it needs 3+ hours of decant. It is very restrained aromatically but with air its many layers of flavor come through, and it gains heft and sweetness with air. Structured and savory, it’s a good QPR if you are very patient. I expect this to be a 93-94 at maturity, if time unlocks it.

From memory. Stood up for several weeks and decanted off fine sediment. Tasted from 2 - 3h after decant. Mute aromas and not giving much on the nose. Palate is also pretty mute. Not much fruit, some leather, nice acids. Either this is an off bottle or still shut down. Save about 1/4 bottle into 187 ml. Will taste again in the next day or 2. No score given the muteness.

Dark cherry, leather, earth, oak spice, some red berries and a whiff of forest floor on the nose. The medium-bodied palate continues with the same ingredients, adding decent acidity. Mostly resolved tannins and long finish with some leather and red berries, tapering towards balsamico notes. Quite complex, developed and somewhat serious, but still retains drinkability. In a good spot now, but hold if you like to tease out the budding tertiary notes.

Dark, mature cherries, a hint of a burnt sensation. Tertiary notes are pushing through. Leather, forest floor. Very soft tannins and good acidity. Lively wine. Nice aftertaste. It drinks very well now and will 3-5 years from now I think
Two hours on: upgrade needed. Mellowing up on the nose and palate. And that is an improvement in this case. Brings more balance, elegance even. Tells me that this is probably better kept a couple of years.

Decanted and enjoyed with pepperoni pizza. Finally seems to be coming around with red fruits, tannin, acidity, and oak starting to integrate. Only additional bottle age will help this wine reach its true potential. Decant and enjoy with food or hold. Drink through 2033.

In a decent place now, with some sour & fumey cherry fruit on the nose, but softer, more savoury, yet nicely balanced on the palate, with faint tea-like tannins and supportive acidity. Modest length.
Not earth-shattering, but I do like the balance / typicity. Not shouty, simply good.

Decanted three hours before dinner, the wine (L6216) nevertheless remained tight throughout dinner. It has a lovely and complex aromatic profile, great structure, sappy acidity, sweet and tart cherry flavors, and a long, savory finish, coming in at a (perfect) 13.5% alcohol. A food wine, not suitable for cocktails or pop&pour. Still not fully ready, the ideal drinking window for this is probably 2023-2035+. Excellent QPR.

PnP. Dark cherry nose. High acid, red fruits, a bit of herbs, almond. Prototypical sangiovese. Should age gracefully for many more years, but drinking well today. Better with food than without as it’s still a bit nervy. Probably will integrate more in time.

Deep- garnet to orange rim. The bouquet opens initially with candied red cherries but soon reveals tar, leather, liquorice, tobacco, stewed black plums and prune. Medium+ bodied, the entry displays a vibrant, energetic acidity fleshed out with ripe Bing cherry and black fruits. Texturally, the wine engages with a grippy yet rich texture (and generous alcohol 14.5%) that becomes denser and more granular on the back palate. It seems like waves of tannin! Complex, this shows layers of flavour, great integration with a savoury twist towards the long finish. Superb!

The wine opens with a gorgeous, expressive nose of licorice and assertive menthol, along with some candied fruit. Soft mouth feel but prominent, balanced acidity that carries the wine across a lengthy finish. When first opened it was less tannic but those became more active after about 3 hours. Tart cherry, licorice and spice with a bit of black tea on the finish. This is a lovely, expressive and open wine.

Notes after following for 4 hours open. So firm and closed, I started using the Vinturi for each pour. Didn't help much. I think this is just painfully young to be getting into and I don't want to touch my others for another 3 years, minimum. Beautiful bouquet: dried flowers and ripe cherries, a bit of forest green, nutmeg and spice. But the palate is hard and drying with tannins that, once they breakdown into the blend of fruit and acidity, should allow the wine to provide a splendid experience. Saving some for day two evaluation. The final glass, some 24+ hours later, revealed the most depth and complexity. I wouldn’t waste opening another for at least a couple more years.

This is aging quickly but quite nicely. Looking back on my tasting notes I noted early aging two years ago and bricking a year ago and it is the same in that regard. The acidity is not quite as snappy and vivid and the leather and earthiness are much further developed. The wine is engaging with depth and a very long finish. It really needs air - I was unimpressed when I first opened it, but 90 minutes later it is everything you could expect and more. Adding in notes from night two - tasted blind this is a warm vintage Brunello. Exceptional depth, lush mouth feel, incredible finish. Remarkable wine.

Seems to finally be coming together and has shown significant improvement over the last year. Decanted. Clear, medium ruby. Beyond youthful and starting into the development phase. Medium plus aromas of wet leaves mixed with stinky barnyard funk, sour cherry, tangy red berry, tart green plum, cigar box, and leather jacket. Medium alcohol, and medium body. Medium plus flavors mimic the aromatics with the fruits leading. Solid structural foundation supports a long finish. Can enjoy now, but additional cellaring will reward the patient.

I’ve enjoyed previous bottles of this, but this one really showed well tonight. Menthol, licorice and a mineral-like quality on the nose. Quite a bit of acidity, bright fruit. It had a sour cherry quality earlier in the night but it has filled out and become a little sappier and sweet-tart like. Still young with a long life ahead.
I had mentioned Brett in an earlier note, but no sign of that tonight.

Still very young but very enjoyable. Savoury nose with earth, thyme and a hint of tart cherry. Wine is concentrated but balanced with high acidity and evident tannins. Cherry on the palate with a nice herbal element and no obvious oak influence. Great with food, still has a long life ahead of it.

My last bottle was nearly a year ago. The wine remains as fresh, snappy and engaging as it was then but with deeper, softer flavors. Still bright cherry on the nose, a bit of tobacco and earth and the spiciness has receded. The wine has softened considerably and it looks older than it is with a bit of bricking - more than anticipated. Gorgeous earthen cherry flavors, superb acidity kicking in on the end. The lingering finish is red ripe cherry, leather and a bit of smoky flavor. Really quite a beautiful wine. Special.

Dark ruby color. Nose black cherries, roses, hint of sandalwood with time. Palate tart red cherries, light body, strongly tannic bite on finish, flavors of black-cherry-infused tea. Unfortunately paired with sweetish Korean-marinated beef — not recommended. Cries out for a rich tomato/cheese dish, lasagna or pizza would be perfect. Young at this point, opens up with time, decanting would have helped. 90 pts

Decanted prior to enjoying with dinner. Clear, medium ruby. Aromatics are clearly developing. Medium aromas of wood spice, cedar mulch, cherry, and leather. Seems slightly disjointed now. Medium alcohol, and a lighter, barely medium body. Medium plus flavors of spicy cherry, taut leather, cedar mulch, and some leafy tobacco. High tannin and medium plus acidity lead to a long finish. Great balance, solid length, and concentrated intensity support the conclusion of a very good wine. It really needs additional cellaring to support better fruit, structure, and oak integration. I would say this is still a bit too early to drink, but should be outstanding within the next couple of years.

We drank this along with the 09 and 03. No surprise that this was the brightest, most lively of the three due to both age and the vintage. Nice nose showing mint, licorice, tobacco and earthy notes. I found a lot of tobacco, but someone else mentioned barnyard, which I didn't get. Slightly tart, with fresh acidity, earthy, darkish fruit, but nothing like the 03 and 09. More tobacco on the palate. I like the vibrancy here and I see some similarities with the 2010 vintage. I think the wine will develop well. My favorite of the three vintages tonight.

A classy wine - very sleek yet undoubtedly Sangiovese. A bit of bricking at its early age but the wine remains fresh. Bright cherry and menthol on the nose. Some spice. In the mouth the wine is soft on the initial attack then the acid and flavors hit, revealing dark cherry, spice, plum, menthol and a bit of pipe tobacco. The acid is assertive but lovely and carries the finish for perhaps as long as a minute, with fine-grained tannins lingering and not clamping down. Exceptional wine for the price.

Had this with lasagna. Decanted for 3 hours prior. Color is red turning to orange. The nose is red cherries and some herbs (anise?). Acidity is medium high (was quite high when first opened) tannins are medium and alcohol is Medium. The wine is well balanced. On the palate it is mainly big dark cherries flowers and a medium finish. Nothing to tell your mom about but good enough for lasagna and very easy to drink because of its delicate flavour profile.

A wonderful example of great QPR from Chianti. Ruby hue opens to marjoram, thyme and tomato leaf aromas. Medium-bodied with red currant, sun-dried tomato and balsamic flavors. Great acidity/fruit balance with tobacco on the lingering finish. I'd pair this with any tomato-infused entree or aged cheese.

My first look at this vintage. The first thing I notice is that it is slightly translucent. A pretty color and a little lighter shade than the last couple of vintages. Some bricking around the edges.
The 2013 is lighter in weight, more red fruited and brighter than the 11 and 12. Still, there is plenty of intensity. Red cherries, slight tobacco, mint and red licorice accents.
With air, the wine fleshes out some but it still has a lively, fresh character. I don't think this is quite as good as the 10, but we both really enjoyed this one. I am going to stock up on this because 2014 seems to be uncertain.

Medium full body. Vibrant nose of cassis and kirsch. Dark fruit flavors predominate with licorice and tobacco undertones. Pronounced tannins and acidity suggest time is on this wine's side. Still a baby. Can't see this hitting a plateau for at least 7 years. Good value. 13.5% ABV.

Popped and poured. Deep ruby core, slightly bricking rim. Beautiful nose with hints of black cherries, kirsch, dry soil, spices, vanilla and cedar-wood. Very good concentration and depth. Tasty already, but both oak and tannins need a few more years if the wine is to reach its full potential as far as balance is concerned. A definite step up in quality from the standard CC, though perhaps not enough to justify the $15 price differential (91-92 points).

Cherry, noble oak and some minerals on the nose. Quite fresh on the palate, juicy cherry fruit, good acidity. Solid amount of tannins. Enjoyable now, will be very good in 5-6 years.

Outstanding Chianti Classico Riserva. Some earthy, smoky and oaky tones integrated on delicious ripe cherry fruit.

Special.

Decanted and enjoyed with food over two evenings. As pointed out six months ago, this still needs more bottle time and patience, or lots of air and food if enjoyed over the short term. Very closed and tight on day one; showed far better on day two, after it opened. Loads of upside potential. 90+ points once it opens.

This followed an Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino and was more interesting to me. More depth to the fruit, and more savory, complex flavors. There is a hint of Brett here, I think.

Tasted at the winery. This is full bodied, nice chianti perfume, solid but friendly tannins, fresh and balanced, the wine ages in medium sizes Slavonian oaks and used French barrels, at the moment is OK for drinking, but 3-5 y would do good.
