A bit thin and dusty - I can't tell if this is young and needs time, over the hill, or just is what it is. It's not bad but not particularly exciting either.

Last bottle and it’s just as well. This is a nice wine with a gorgeous nose. Certainly better than my last tasting in 2020. My only issue with it is the lack of extract or concentration.

Like the wine: nice red fruits, solid structure, and a decent QPR at <$30 USD, but I’d really like to see more depth and complexity. Somewhat generic, but still in development. Paired with chargrilled Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, riced cauliflower, Brussels sprouts.

Ripe red fruit, earthy and silky, with sufficient remaining acidity. In a good place, with a little more time ahead of it. Very enjoyable and a good value.

Coravin fun - Burgundy & Bordeaux (KC's place): From Coravin. Cream, oak, cherry; a little maraschino note, touch of wood glue and cedar. Medium plus intensity acidity, more savoury black cherry as well maraschino in the mouth with slight salinity and some mid-palate burr. Hmm.

this did well with some air and moving toward room temp. just classic example of why burgundy makes the best wine in the world, and it's really not close.
A charming, relatively simple Village level Burgundy. Fresh and lively with lots of tart red fruits, some tannin and lots of acidity. Clear, medium (bordering on pale) ruby, medium minus body, and medium alcohol. Very nice, but lacks complexity, intensity and concentration. Medium finish. Appears not to have seen much oak treatment. Decanted and enjoyed with baked chicken and garden, tossed salad. Drink now or over the next couple of years, unlikely to improve with additional cellaring.

Bought three Matrot 2014 reds from Garagiste for a song, in order to compare the different villages.
Monthélie: the lightest of the three, but with lovely verve, insistence, freshness and bright fruit. A real food wine. Really enjoyed it. 89 points.
Auxey-Duresses: the middle-weight of the group. Fuller in body and depth, perhaps a bit more complete, but somehow lacked that je ne sais quoi? Still liked it, just not quite as much. 88 points.
Meursault: surprisingly (?) the deepest-pitched and most complex of the three. Darker fruit, more tannins, more spice, and just more overall presence. Quite a contemplative wine, especially for the price with this much age on it. 90 points.
Very fun little tasting!

Had bottle 2 side by side with the 2014 matrot auxey duresses. Enjoyed this one substantially more than the AD. Showed oak and a bit of complexity on the palate.

Light garnet, clear rim Aromatics medium. No oak. Ripe red fruits, mainly raspberry and cherry. Secondary of turned earth Palate medium +. Acid medium +. Tannins medium, fine on the teeth and gums. Alcohol medium. Cherries that are both tart but still ripe. No secondary Finish has medium length. Balanced Dry glass notes of flowers Likely I should have waited on this second bottle, but family wanted a Pinot tasting. I suspect it has the acid to age and hopefully allow further secondary aromatics.

Lovely! Great earthy smells that only got better over time. Flavors showed good balance between earth, fruit and tannins. Not terribly complex or powerful (probably owing to the vintage) but good qpr at $30 checking all the boxes. Enjoyed this much more than the matrot monthelie I tried recently.

When you first open it the fruit is quite concentrated. It almost teeters on candied but after 15 minutes or so the fruit disappears and the tannins get rough. The wine is far less welcoming. Hours later its more balanced, the fruit is more natural, but the tannins are still present and persistent.
It was all well and good but I think I'll wait a while before trying this again.

Hard to compare as this is the first red Meursault I’ve had. I bit like a Volnay that’s rough around the edges? I got the same jammy fruits and raisins on the nose and palate. Fortunately, it blew off after an hour in the decanter but did come back after 2 hours. Nice concentration, bordering on over-extracted. Medium finish that reminds me of cherries, plums, and a good amount of nice earthiness. This wine definitely needs to be decanted and left to resolve itself for an hour. Out of the bottle, it tasted oddly New World. Last thought is that this isn’t one for the ages; quite good now though. Needs something like roasted (but mildly seasoned) pork or prime rib to go with it.

Burgundy "Masterclass" - Day 1 (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia): [From Coravin] Restrained nose (light intensity). The palate shows simple, medium intensity flavours of red fruit (red cherry, cranberry), stem/whole-bunch character (dried leaves), and mineral (dry dusty earth). The finish has a medium length.

From Coravin. slightly jammy fruit, baked earth, a little dusty spice, almost raisined. Palate very much a reflection of the nose; perhaps a little over extracted. Tannins are muted but quite tough and unyielding. Hmm

Coravin fun with Mats and Fredrik part one (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Rich, clay, black and red cherry, slightly jubey, pretty berried fruit, slightly zesty, fleshy cherry warm, a little spiced. Medium plus length. Finishes savoury with silky tannins. Nice.

Pinot and Pate matching (KC's place): From Coravin. Ripe, almost jammy, red currant fruit and spice. Again that strange combination of fruit sweetness applied to slightly sour fruit…Hmm.

Chablis with E&M (E & M's in the rocks, Sydney): exceedingly spiced red tending to black berry fruit. Little bit of that plasticine element on the nose as well. In the mouth it's juicy, fleshy, fruit based and easy. Gentle tannic grip. Ripe & pleasant but, in this line up, it feels like it lacks acidity...which it doesn't. I finished the rest of the bottle the next day & in isolation the acidity was more than present.

From Coravin. Cream, red berry and cherry that proves, with time, a little concentrated. In the mouth it's pleasantly wet and fleshy with slight coffee notes joining the red fruits. Fine but present tannins. Pleasing. Perhaps a little short.
