  • I have yet to meet a 2005 Mosel Kabinett that was one. While they are,as a class, higher in residual sugar than in most vintages, the 2005s are ready to go now. And that assessment includes the incorrect reading 6 years ago that they were open for balanced drinking. THe acid balance is now in place, with its grapefruit acid backing that matches very nicely with the fusil oil, honey, loquat and slight white pepper tastes. JJC is one of the very finest producers of auslesen that age with grace and show amazing character. The kabinetten are very nice but not as chiseled or expressive as those from Adam,Selbach, Prum or Muller. This wine has 10 years easily left.

  • Clean fruit (apples, stone fruit, touch of citrus) with pure focused acidity. Hint of petrol/rubber. Very attractive and beautiful with sashimi dinner.

  • A TINY BIT OUT OF BALANCE. STILL SHOWNG REDOLENT FRUIT BUT tHE NICE ACID BACKBONE SEEMED TO STAND SIDE BY SIDE WITH THE FRUIT. AND NOT YET DETECTINg AS MUCH URZIGER FLOWERY TASTE. WAIT FOR NEXT SITTING.

  • The 2005 kabinetts are ready! OF two today, the CHristoffel prevailed. I am a huge fan of their old auslesen but had not had such a wonderful kabinett from them before. A perfect acid/fruit balance. The 2005 vintage showed beautifully --unlike some older, less distinguished vintages of theirs. A bouquet of floral scents with tropical overtones on the nose; full finish on the palate, with no oversweet notes, no excess citrus notes but rather a nice blend of cumquat, grapefruit, mango, and light exotic fruits with medium viscosity. Start drinking now

  • STG End of Year (Roy's): nose: light petrol, dirt, lightly smoked wood (not exactly oak, just reminiscent of oak)
palate: clean, very precise, yet full of flavor. almost bursting with flavor, in fact.

  • Following notes are from day 2 after re-screwing the bottle and refrigerating overnight. Nose: Honeyed apricots, citrus, hint of smoke, apples. Palate: Off-dry with ample fruit - peaches, apples, citrus... no real hints of tropical fruits. Excellent sweetness with even better acidity... resulting in a perfectly crisp kabinett.

  • This wine remained delicious opened and in the fridge for several months (an accident!). Suggests potential for long aging.

  • Really nice, really drinkable. Very crisp & clean with lemon/lime/grapefruit & green apple notes. Slight mineral notes on nose & palate. Semi-sweet. Quite acidic, in a good way. Thirst quenching but complex at the same time.

  • These are just some quick impressions as I did not pay too much attention to the wine in the setting. There was a great deal of spritziness here, and it required several shakes to settle down. Medium bodied, and loaded with green apples, soda water and stone-like minerality. Crisp and refreshing.

  • Just a solid Kabinett -- just a hint of sweetness. Crisp, with a mineral component and a clean finish. Very refreshing.

  • Nasvhille Trip; 12/9/2007-12/12/2007: Decided I need a little wine with a very difficult pairing. Prince's Hot Chicken in Nashville. Well not really a pairing but it was the wine of the evening. The wine did need a bit of a shake to wake up ... then it was clean a fruity. Nicely balanced acidity with the sweetness. Lots of citrus but a touch of stones coming through as well. A solid wine.

  • slight whiff of petrol - the wine is a bit soft - not fat but sliding in that direction - still delicious, green apple-y flavors and some stoniness. Enjoyed.

  • Deceptive, this one. Sweetness is its first trick: it smells like a cinnamon-dusted pie made from strawberries, kiwi and apple, and a wall of sugar hits the front of the mouth. Yet the finish FEELS dry and quenching, a twist of a salted lime. Upon entry it also conned me into thinking it's a lighthearted, monolithic simpleton. Turns out this is a viscous, extracted little beast, and it sits on the tongue, and sits, and sits. Third, the acidity is cloaked. Sure, there's some, but you don't really EXPERIENCE it until you pucker the inside of your mouth after you swallow; and suddenly, the acidity blooms, and the mouth starts watering. Finally, subtle Würzgarten spice notes emerge only at warmer temps.

  • Very tasty. On the sweet side for a kabinett but with plenty of acid.

  • This stuff is so drinkable now it's scary. More like a lemon-lime soft drink beverage than a wine. I don't mean that in a bad way. Incredibly fresh and snappy.

  • Surprisingly as off-dry as an Auslese, this easy drinking wine is perfect as a summer apertif. Notes of grapefruit and lemon, along with honeysuckle, tickle the nose, leading to flavors of green apple, honey, and citrus on the palate. Slightly frizzant. Too sweet to serve with a meal, yet the acidity and mineral undertown keeps it from being too cloying. Perhaps with cheese. clear, pale straw, med intensity, pale rim clean, youthful, honey, citrus, honeysuckle, palate: green apple, med+acidity, pronounced med+, honeysuckle, blossom, minerals, med finish, med body

  • AP Nr. 2 602 041 004 06, 9% (French & Logan)
Closed with a screwcap. It has a fresh, very talcy, very slatey minerally nose with some green grapey fruit. Very zingy on the palate, this is ultra-refreshing, although there’s a hint of residual sugar there too. Quite mouthfilling without being heavy. It actually has a nice cleansing feel.

Curiously, having left half the bottle overnight, it had refermented by the next day.

  • German Riesling Tasting (Jörg's appartment): Clear light greenish color. Good floral, apple, grapefruit and mineral aromas. The wine is fat and intense but well balanced by acidity. Lots of fruit sweetness and good aftertaste.

  • Saw the other reviews and had to try this. Great vintage. Reminds me of a Spatlese. Pale yellow. Initial fizz. Silky mouthfeel. Lemon zest and mineral notes. This is a nice Kabinett that will age for a few years. I paid $22 and would have loved to purchase a case at release for $15.

  • i have only recently begun a forey into german reislings. this is the first bottle i tried. i found it to be amazing. i found the sugar and acid perfectly balanced. so much i felt the wine simply danced in my mouth. BTW - the correct alchohol content is actually 8%, and not 9% as noted by the rpevious review.

i subsequently tried Donnhoff Oberhauser Leistenberg Reisling Kabinette 2005 and found it to be delicious, but not a contender to the Christoffel.
