Medium ruby in color. Notes of black cherry and blackberry; spicy with black pepper. Medium acidity and moderate tannins. Maybe slightly hot, which is not surprising given the 15.8% alcohol level. Still, overall this was exceptionally well balanced.

What a pleasant surprise! Decanted 45 minutes. Initial heavy overripe plum aromas quickly diminished to reveal spicy brambleberry aromas. On the palate, a nice minerality augments the spicy black raspberry flavors in a medium bodied structure with nice acidity. A plush mouthfeel, but not over-extracted with some herbs and black pepper on the finish. At peak now, but well stored bottles should reward another few years of fine drinking! 91+

Big juicy fruit on the aromatics. A playful Zin. Palate a bit more tame but still leads with a red fruit profile. Fleshier than I recalled and less spicy. Think this is about at peak as the finish was just a bit watery and thin. Good to enjoy soon.

I was expecting this to be a much bigger wine for some reason which is not really in my style preference these days. I was however surprised to find to find a very balanced, fruit driven, but not over extracted wine that I very much did enjoy. Maybe it was the age this rested before opening. Hides' its alcohol very well also.

Klims came over for dinner - three wines on tap - Turley Estate Paso 2014, Caymus Napa Cab 2005 and Turley Dragon Vyrd Howell Mt. 2017. All had good color and clarity, the Caymus was a little light in body. Before dinner the 2014 Turley - Round, fruit forward, Blue Berry followed by other berry flavors with White Pepper through the end. The Caymus was with dinner (Pepper corn NY Strip) - This wine has evolved - At first some mentol with Tobacco and cedar - very nice and complex for its age. The Dragon Vineyard Turley was after dinner - Harder to tell the flavors at this point - Lots of berries and pepper, good mouth feel and finish.

Celebrating the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win. This was the best — and last — of the 2014 Pesenti Zin offerings in our cellar. Baked cherry pie, apricots and fragrant herbs, with a long, flavorful finish. Although previous bottles were more in their “drink me now” phase, this one could have gone another couple of years. Go figure. Delicious with grilled salmon tonight. Worth Seeking Out.

Outstanding! Nose is hot with baked red berries, cedar, and baking spice. Palate is super smooth and hides the 15.8% ABV well - cherry pie, red plum, vanilla, and spice. Acidity is med to med-plus, tannins are med-minus however the balance is excellent overall (though just a touch hot) and this goes down almost too easy. A great wine for a chilly night!

Savory, spicy, very distinct zin. I pulled this to go with some solid linguica from Kramarczuk's on the grill. Over time I've really oriented my Turley purchases towards their Paso area zins. A fan of the diverse flavor components across Pesenti, Dusi & Ueberroth. I think the Pesenti is the driest and spiciest and that was out in spades on this '14. Youthful punch to it. Rich garnet coloring. Will (try to) wait a year or so on my remaining bottle. Key will be catching while the red fruits still lend to the mix, once they fade could be a bit angular.

Lots if dried fruit at the front of this one--think prunes and raisins. With that description you should think that this is a big, rich wine. It is. It also seems hot. It doesn't suck, but all in all, it just seems to be an unintegrated wine with no subtly.

Lush, dark red fruit with just a hint of oak and mineral. Flavor profile is much the same with a very light, but notable herbal element - wonderful lively acidity and bold pepper give this a long finish. High alcohol is completely subdued. Rich mid palette. Nicely done.

Tried this blind and thought it was excellent. When it was revealed, I was happy to see it’s a wine I have in my own cellar. Very youthful purple in the glass, with a palate of fresh berries bolstered by peppy acidity. The finish is long and delicious, walking the line between sweet and savory.

This opened on the heels of the Mead Atlas Peak we finished from last night. This TOTALLY different because of the different Paso Robles terrior. One wine where I disagree with my CT brethren big time. A whole other level of spice/pepper and acidity than most of the Napa/Sonoma vineyards. Great red fruit, tanginess and pepper. This is one of my fav vineyards of Turley, mostly because it's so different than so many of the others. Great wine, great terrior, great drinking.

But bold and delicious brambley notes with briar patch, sweet herbs the hallmark sasparella, all the way to red fruits, stemy green notes, leaning toward glycerin but note getting there. Although the alc is high it's balanced and wears it well as an echo of all the beautiful fruits.

There is no way this wine is ever going to come together. Ever.
Usually my go to wine which is why I ordered so much of it. Clearly other people knew something because this wine is a disjointed mess. PNP on first night was crazy not right. 2 days later and I am getting bath soap flavor on the palate. Not a good sign. Great color though.
Could be early on this one but it's not as well integrated at this point when compared to other past years. The alcohol heat is very noticeable and detracts from the overall taste and feel.

PNP and then consumed over 5 hours. A nice Zin in the Turley house style. Lacks any special characteristics that would make you say "wow" and that explains the CT average score of 89.4 points as of 1-13-17. Fairly smooth with mild tannins so you can drink now. A style we like so it's 90-91 for us.

Some strawberry, plum & caramel. Thick on the tongue, medium finish.

Overbaked and syrupy for my taste. I bought it at the winery and loved it. I suspect it had been open longer there. Would have liked to give it more air. Like three hours worth.

Drank on the way to Olympia airport for DuPont DD. Can’t think of tasting notes, other than bright and cheap tasting.

No formal notes taken. Off memory: Incredible fruit, nice spicy note, held up well to Indian food.

Skunked like the way Heineken gets skunky.
Not happy.

Opened at a party, along with a 2014 Sadie Upton. This is normally one of our favorites, a typical peppery Turley, and it did not disappoint. But the Sadie Upton blew it away. Interesting.

This is one of my favorite Turleys. Robust, but not overpowering. Its higher than average alcohol content wasn't evident and blended nicely with the varying fruits. So good.

Has improved dramatically over the last few months. Much more red fruit, acidity still there but not as "in your face."

Always a battle for favorite Turley between this and Uebberoth. These are big wines but the limestone soil of Paso Robles gives it ample acidity.

Same reaction as the first bottle -- thinner than I anticipated but not bad

Still a little young. Needs a few years to mature a bit.

Great young Zin. Raspberry, plum, strawberry and minerality on the palate. Long finish. Deft integration of its 15.8% alcohol. Drink or hold for a few years.

Double decanted then SO'd for a few hrs, deep purple, dark & red fruit with pepper, mod. tannins, long finish; delicious, drink or hold. I love these Turley zins!

15.3% abv. Dark ruby, moderate aromatics. On the palate, a smooth red fruit entry, backed by sour cherry, raspberry and a hint of bramble. Rich, deep long, round and delicious!

Tobacco. Astringent and a little citrusy. Lighter than other Turleys, it seems to me.

Smooth and rich, and full of berry flavors, a little bit of tobacco, and a nice fruity finish. But hey, what do you expect from Turley?
