Dark crimson in color. 15% ABV. Stunning nose of red fruits, citrus, bacon fat and flowers. Medium body with perfect acidity and impeccable balance. Lighter in style than previous vintages. Cherry, raspberry liqueur, olive brine and gamy meat on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Carlisle Syrah with a Northern Rhone flair. Atypical but delicious. Best over the next 2-4 years.

Decanted several hours prior to first taste. Dark berry fruit, cracked pepper, hints of barnyard funk. This holds it's 15+% alcohol well, with very little heat apparent. Very enjoyable Syrah that benefitted from the decant. Drink now - 2030.

2 1/2 hour decant (mag decanter). Nose: Scortched earth, tar and minerals. Cassis hints underneath. Very cool aromas. Palate: Soft and lush but with very ample tannins and acidity giving counterbalancing life to the lushness. Blackberries and blueberry hints contrasted by the mineral and tar shown on the nose. Finish is medium long and does not overstay its welcome. Just yet another fabulous effort by the Officer/Maddox team. Yum!

Amazing what several months can do for a wine. While still young it is drinking beautifully right now. Dark purple and still lots of tannin. It is much smoother than in May last year. Very smooth, round and full flavor. Long, lingering finish. No secondary flavors at this point. Not as exotic and layered with flavors compared to Araujo, Alban etc. but it is at a much higher price point and excellent QPR as are all Carlisle Wines. Looking forward to the rest of my bottles.

Right now it's still not ready, but give it at least two more years and it's gonna be a wickedly rewarding wine. Crisp and bright red fruits with a nice core of loamy earth and iron. Love the midpalate right now, especially the plum finish - if you do open give it a multli-hour decant and save some for day two. You'll thank me if you do.

Spectacular Papa’s syrah showing a more savoury, meaty side of this vineyards characteristics than the 2014. I almost think it’s even better for it despite what the vintage charts might say. Less exuberantly fruity but more ‘dark’, smoky, savoury all the while it is just a plain joy to drink with great richness, body and surplus. Soft tannins, full body, long finish, with notes from both the Côte-Rôtie and the New World combining for a remakable wine full of character while being very easy to appreciate. A great Papa’s!
A year and a half ago, I wrote a note on the 2014, where I copied my note on the 2012, from the previous year. I will do that again, because this wine is apparantly very consistent and the note fairly on point again! This time I didn't decant though, so serving was slightly different than the two previous bottles. Compared to the 2014 I will say this 2015 feels slightly more savoury and slightly less apparantly fruity, perhaps leaving a feeling of slightly higher structure with a little less malo and chocolate notes. Again, I'd love a comparison side by side. From last year: ""Decanted for 2-3 hours and served fairly chilled. World class syrah here not much below the likes of SQN and the other big hitters. It does what California does best IMHO, which is to combine the unctuous texture, mouthfeel, body and 'surplus' of the New World with flavours I mostly associate with Côte-Rôtie, which is ripe, black cherries, blackberries, cracked black and white peppercorns, baconfat, cloves-spice, charred pine needles (think of making a campfire and throwing in sticks of pine wood) and in this case added complexity from woodsmoke, espresso-roast, chocolate and some malo-yoghurt/creaminess. It will certainly develop for at least a decade, but with this showing; Why wait?"......Well, The above is my TN for the 2012 Papa's Block tasted about a year ago. I don't think I could do a much better job of describing this 2014! I treated it the same and the showing was just incredible! Much better than the sip I had upon opening, which just barely merited 90 points. I suppose this 2014 is slightly more malo-creamy and toffee/coffee scented with slightly less pepper and spice at this point, but I'd need them side by side to know for sure. Congrats to anyone cellaring this." If

Really, really needed a little time here to show its best. Super dark, like a petite (as another taster mentioned) and initially muted on the nose, but time and warmer temps coaxed out notes of iron ore, red meat, very dark, dry fruit. Long finish, with mouth coating tannins lasting over a minute. Really delicious expression, and again -- it's a strong HOLD if you can. Or a long decant and serve just above cellar temp. More gains to be made

Defines full-bodied syrah. Could easily mistake it for a petite sirah, but in a good way. Really a solid wine as soon as the cork pops, even better after about 4 hours.
