Great pizza wine. Dull, deep ruby with garnet edges. Mature, and complex, dominated with tertiary notes: decaying leaves and wet forest floor; earthy mushroom, stewed cherry; day old, crushed wild raspberry; cooked plum; old ground mixed spices; and rusty iron. Structure is integrated, but in tact. Solid finish. Drink now, but by 2025.

Good QPR. Drank over 3 days. Dark crimson. Simple but good. Spicy with some stewed fruit. Hint of vanilla. A fair amount of sediment. Doubt there’s much reason to wait or hold longer. Drink 88-89

Opened, poured into a decanter (Grassl), and tasted on its own (Grassl Cru). Then tasted with food (chicken thigh cutlets, with fusilli al pomodoro, in case you were wondering). Dark ruby color. Inviting floral nose with red clay, black cherries and plums, a hint of soy sauce, and mushrooms. Bright intro with tart red berry fruit, mouthwatering acidity, and savory herbal element (sage) and dusty tannins following. Some blueberry skin in there as well. Quite enjoyable. Nice blend, but perhaps lacks depth and complexity. Second day after saving half under Vacuvin shows the wine holding on. It has rounded out a bit with some plum fruit notes yet still retains a nice balance of the bright tart red fruit and the more savory elements of mushroom, soy and red clay dust.
13.5%abv. Quality branded cork with wine name and vintage. 80% sangiovese, 15% merlot and 5% Cabernet sauvignon. Sediment at bottom of the bottle.

Not the first of these but can’t find my prior notes. Drank over 3 nights. Nice crimson color. Aroma and flavor Held up well maybe a bit better last day. Tart cherry smoky nose. Flavor similar with some mint, nice long finish. Not super complex but just simply delicious and probably drinking at peak. Can probably go a good bit longer and could improve but not sure. 90+

Had to open two bottles to get one that wasn't corked. A total of three bottles out of a six-bottle purchase were corked. Very poor quality control on the part of the producer. Otherwise, this wine has always been a go-to, QPR wine for me.

Finally, the third bottle opened out of a purchase of six, and this is the first one not corked. So, then it's more like what I expect, although I think that it needs more time for the oak to integrate better. Could gain a point when that happens.

A very delicious wine with lots of Sangiovese character. It's just a little lighter in texture and flavor than a Brunello or a good Chianti. Drinking really nicely now.

Must have been an "off" bottle. Seemed rather lifeless and dull, exhibiting none of the signature characteristics of this wine. Simple, straightforward flavors of cherry, raspberry and plum with very little acidity. Showed tell-tale signs of having been heat-damaged. Hope my remaining two bottles of this vintage fare better.

Classic Sangiovese tart cherries on the nose and palate. 80% Sangiovese 15% Merlot and 5% Cab. You can taste all three. A nice blend. This had tons of sediment and bret initially. Needed 4-5 hours to settle and open into a very Chianti-like wine. Does not have depth or character of Brunello but you know you are drinking a Tuscan wine immediately. Nice long finish—I wish I had it with food. Definitely would pair nicely with whatever you would eat with your Chianti—this is not a SuperTuscan Bordeaux-like blend—distinctly Italian. Nice buy for $22.

Started out very strident, "over the hill" and woody, but after some aeration in the glass it became a well behaved, somewhat fruity reminder that Petrolo makes some very fine wines indeed. Drank over two days with excellent results on the second.

Pop and pour and tasted with food (pizza marghereita, in case you were wondering). Dark purple color. Nose of dusty red clay and some mushrooms. Dark fruits with an herbal note, along with a woodsy/cedar/oak element. Good acidity. It has been a year since i last opened a bottle and now and as then, this could use more time in the cellar. Has good bones but needs more time to show best.
Re-tasted this wine after having the bottle open for two days. There is a nice dusty tannin note that runs through the wine. Still enjoyable and holding up after being open for two days.

Recommend a long decant before enjoying. Much better with food than without. Comprised of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Spicy red berry, smoky cherry, chewy leather, sage brush, cedar and plenty of acidity and tannin to support further cellaring. Long finish. Has potential future upside.

The bouquet was alluring and remarkably pretty, with fresh, ripe strawberry, dusty spice, leather, and a hint of cedar. On the palate, I found grippy, acid driven textures with youthful, fine tannin and flavors of dried strawberry, and leather. It finished firm, yet long and remarkably balanced with inner floral tones, dried red fruits and hints of licorice.

Not too dissimilar to 2013 Bòggina on the nose. A bit richer, softer maybe, also a little more floral. Great richness of fruit. Mineral and fresh on the palate, slightly drying finish of impressive length. Very good. 90-91+
