I can't believe how good this was. I generally really like the '14 vintage and this was no exception - compact, incisive, a red fruit profile (which is often not my favorite) but lovely extended fruit with dryness on the finish and just the right acidity . Really wish I had more. This was about $33 after tax upon release and I realize now it was a bargain. Just needed patience. 93++pts.

45mm natural cork enclosure. Dark ruby with a hint of garnet in colour. Med(+) nose with sweet spice, cedar, pencil shavings, cassis, raspberry, jammy and dark fruit. The palate is pronounced. Full body. High acidity. Balanced well enough, I think the acidity/15.5% ABV working a little too hard. Just a little. High(fine) tannins. It stayed very drinkable over 3 days - improving as it went - so yeah, rather nice.

Rich and delicious. Still plenty of red and dark fruit. Some age is apparent too with very light forest floor notes, but also in nice melding of the fruit and wood spice. In a nice place now, and held up a tad better than I was expecting from some other '14 and early impressions of this one.

Kind of toothpicks and bitter dark chocolate with some smoky charcoal caramel notes? 3rd Coravin attempt in 2 weeks, looking for some berry fruit but it's all balsamic and Kalamata olives. Tannins are way firm still too. Not sure if it's the repeat sampling (better fruit previous tastes I think???), plus I recall liking this a couple years back at a tasting, but the wine is simply not that great on its own. Profile seems to call for grilled beef, stewed or braised lamb, etc. NR at this point, 1 more to try and perhaps redeem. This bottle will most likely be dumped fwiw.
Update - saved balance and decanted 2.5+ hours before serving with Spanish steaks and patatas bravas and this paired up quite nicely with the strong pungent herbas and peppered tomato aioli sauce.

1.5. Concentrated black fruit up front, moving through a dense, herbal core and finishing fairly long on good tannin. Intensity... as someone who drinks way more Pinot than Cabernet, this blew past my ability to taste for subtlety... made it to Day 3, not much changed... intense, concentrated. Got 5 more and probably leave the next one for a couple years, see what happens.

Beautiful nose of ripe purple and red fruit, predominantly plum. Really great perfume to it. The wine has a smooth and silky texture across the tongue, with a decent amount of acidity, though the tannins are a little rough around the edges forwards the finish. Heavy with fruits. Plumb and blueberry forward; decent heat to it as well. Really well balanced with a medium to long finish. Drinking very well at the moment. Still a great value for a Napa cab.
Blueberries, plum, succulent blackberry fruit all over the glass. Tannins intact though a little thinner on the end. Great value and easy drinking. Intensely approachable. A Napa fruit demonstration indeed.

Very good, especially after an hour or so of air. Seemed somewhat fake to me; the flavors were too bold for natural. I would buy more if around $12. Reidel cab glasses. Update: had a second bottle and same impression
Well it has been another year since last bottle and everything seems to be coming together. Not sure it will get any better going forward but decent flavor and body. 90 pts or 4 stars.

This is now hitting its stride and is quite attractive and balanced. Red fruit profile, some backbone of tannins, the fruit is pretty forward and on the sweet and obvious side, some acidity and dryness but not much. Pretty great around crowd-pleaser. Good value. Drink now - I don't see this needing any more time. Held up well on the 2nd day.

What a delightful, wonderful surprise! We have had 6 bottles of this wine over the last 3 years and our experience has been mixed, at best, and disappointing overall. Not tonight. This is the bottle that gives credence to that "95" rating it received several years ago. Clean, complex, nice black fruit, nice, long finish, classic Cabernet, with solid body, good structure, and several years left in the tank. Gale's first response was wide open eyes, a huge smile, and a sigh. That made me smile. Very good wine tonight. Given the variation we seem to have experienced with this wine, I am almost afraid to open anymore lest this turns out to be the only really great one in the case.

This wine delivers significantly above its price point. Well integrated Napa flavors of cassis, blackberry, eucalyptus. On the second day, added black plum notes. Mid weight and elegantly silky, very pleasant for sipping, ready for drinking now. Looking forward to opening more of these over the next two years.

From magnum. Tannic and packed with dark fruit and spice. Slightly drying. Lots of air needed as this improves in the glass, with every glass.
Stellar on Day 2. Not nearly as tannic or drying as Day 1. Fantastic rich blackberry and dark plum, not plush, a hint of olive early-on. Plenty of acidity and fruit for another few years, but this is how we like 'em.

Better than the last bottle. A really quality Napa that punches above its weight. Got better after a year or two in the cellar and drinking well now, but could have some room to improve. Looking forward to trying the ‘16.

From magnum. #9 tastes just like #8... 6/22 notes apply. Fantastic after an hour in the decanter, softer and melts-in-your-mouth like licorice-flavored cotton candy on Day 2. Consistently blown-away by this.

Nose of black currants, black berry, hints of black cherry and earth, more of the same on the palate, medium/big body, tasty, should improve the next 3 years and merit a higher score, almost mouth filling fruit, worth searching out at $30 retail price here, improved taste wise the second night so the future is brighter, and a medium/long finish. Trying a little different approach to notes tonight. Minus 2 points on nose... Will hope that my last bottle opens up a little more. Minus 3 points on palate... This is really a full bodied and delicious Napa red with a clear sense of place, but is just slightly over ripe for my expectations. Minus 1 on balance. This is very nicely balanced, even against the typically high Napa alcohol of 14.9. Lastly, I'll give it minus 1 on finish... Beautiful complex finish that lingered for about a minute. Structure indicates a point of growth is easily attainable. Very drinkable now with many years ahead.

I agree with RocknRoller's comments from a few months back. This is a nicely structured, well made, nice drinking wine in a textbook Napa way. Ripe black currants, creme de cassis, grilled meat, minerals and spice. There is some oak but I found it well integrated into the palate. Nothing out of proportion with this wine and tannins to further develop.

Mixed Bag at Kevin's (Minneapolis, MN): Very much manufactured Cabernet. While the fruit was nice the oak treatment was off. Alcohol present. Try holding.

Fourth of July Weekend (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Very dark red color. One hour decant; 2 oz pour. Been a while since I've a Martini Napa Cab. This was a really well made wine and a good example of what Martini does. Pretty much textbook Napa Cabernet Sauvingon. Great fruit, ripe black currants, dense and full bodied, creme de cassis, youthful but polished tannins and some new oak and spice. Very good and will get better. 90+ to 91pts.

From magnum, the 8th of 12 purchased. Incredibly rich and supple, reminding me of cabernet from Pritchard Hill. Right now, decant for a few hrs if u can, easily 4 or 5 more years to further develop in the cellar, untouchable QPR for $50.

Nice Cab has nice fruit lite wood a little heat until it’s been open a couple of hours. Needs to open up a bit but when it opens it begins to lose some of the structure. Overall a nice wine for the price went well with NY Strip not as good by itself. A little too much alcohol comes through.

Attractive nose of ripe blue berries and cassis with spices, milk chocolate and just a touch of herbs and an intriguing stale musky nuance in the base note. The palate is fresh and lively showing it’s young age. No stale musky flavors detected here. Bright fruits and toasted spices filled the mid-palate which is already very transparent. Not much complexity in the mouth although the nose seem to suggest more. The tannins are somewhat bitter and dry at this point in time. Keep it for another 3 years before drinking and it probably would not improve much further thereafter. 87-89 pts.

Opened two hours before drinking (no decant). Deep magenta ruby color. Oak, black cherry and fig on the nose. Zesty palate with vibrant acidity. Full tannins on the medium long finish.
This is a classic, good QPR Napa CS. Could use a true one hour decant if you’re drinking it this year.

Agree with prior notes. This is a napa cab, Parker style, fruit forward, well executed, which I enjoy. If you generally like napa cab you'll find this to be solid, if not -why would you buy it? At 30 or less this is solid QPR, I think I paid closer to 38 probably because of the high RP score.

Ill rate this 93 because its $35 a bottle and pretty good. It was pretty deep actually. Lots of good stuff going on. Finish wasn't great and the alcohol tasted like it was 20%. The longer I let this stew in my mouth the more alcohol that continued to over whelm the taste. This needs time but in a few years it will really be outstanding for $35.

Enjoyed over two nights, nose of black currants, black berry, hints of black cherry and earth, more of the same on the palate, medium/big body, tasty, solid QPR when most Napa Valley Cabernet costs $150 to $200 a bottle, should improve the next 3 years and merit a higher score, mouth filling fruit, fairly rich fruit, touch simple, worth searching out for everyday drinking, better the second night than the first, medium finish.

Deeply colored, inky purple, garnet at the rim. Rich medium/full body, strong dark fruit/cassis flavors but a little lacking in complexity. Low acidity, a little sweet, butressed by fine tannins in the finish. Very tasty easy to like wine, good PQR, a great restaurant wine but not special. It may improve with age but drinks very well now.

Solid 90 now.....probably 91+ in a few years. Higher alcohol which can be noticed on the nose - but seems to be pretty organized and what a value! Second day was smoother and relaxed and we actually had a 2014 Joseph Phelps after this bottle.....my wife liked the LMM better - although we didn't decant the Phelps! I'll be adding some to the cellar for sure!

Very pleasantly surprised with the quality here. This is an over-achiever. It's well balanced, there is a really nice bright acidity giving the wine lift. Red fruit abounds, nothing awry or strident. Will benefit from more time, but not overly closed at this stage. Great value - definitely a step up from the usual Napa Cab fare I try at <$30. Could easily eclipse higher priced peers in a blind tasting.

Popped and poured. Dark garnet, leaving red tears on the glass. Quite herbal in the nose. Minty. Good Napa fruit. Mouth is rich and full, a bit tannic but round and ripe. Good value at under $30. Better than most Napa cabs at the price point, when you can even find them. 4-13-16-8: 91/100.

Tasted at a local store. Dark ruby fruit - dark cherry, currants, and a little blackberry. Smooth mid-palate coupled with decent depth for the price point but I expected a little bigger/fuller fruit in light of Parker's rating and description as "full-bodied and multilayered on the palate". Nice flavors of dark berries and a little spice. Decent finish but not overly long nor deep. According to the store the bottle was open a couple hours before serving. In all, a solid cab for around $25, however, like Parker's review of the 2014 Louis Martini Alexander cab I believe his barrel tasting rating of 93 to 95 for this wine was a little generous - although it is young and should improve some with more time. 90% cab, 5% petite sirah, and 5% petit verdot.

With so much buzz on the Parker high score for this vintage, and the blogs about higher-quality efforts at this venerable label, it was still a nice surprise to pop and pour this excellent QPR-driven result. Shows intensity of extraction, flavors of cassis and black cherry, lots of structure and some manageable tannins right out of the bottle. There's also some good potential for longer, mid-term ageing as well. Finish is long, and over a 3-day period of an open bottle, continued improvement and complexity built along the way. Will pick up a few more for the cellar, but suggest getting some while you can, since there may be variances in longer production runs if it takes off like a rocket right away. You won't be disappointed.
Very Nice. Clear and dark in color, aroma was soft but rich and dark... yummy. Taste was nice, with a mouth-filling amount of big dark fruit, oak, eucalyptus and earth. Nice, smooth and balanced tannins... overall just a really nice wine. For the price of $30, this is a 89-90 Pointer and a Very Good QPR. Get more without question!

P: Med body; NICE, ALMOST swtish frt QUICKLY met by very, VERY fine tannins & pucker which never loses the swtness of entry, all of this slowly transitioning into a LONG, nicely balanced finish with a tanginess & notes of swtness. Needs/DESERVES until EARLY '19, then drinking for 3 or 4 more. My "Very Good+" as this should be a VERY popular style -- particularly @ this vendor's competitive $29.95 (though several wine-searcher entries DO beat it). WA 93-95 pts & 91 Suckling

P: LM body; NICE frt met by an astringent pucker which pretty much resolves by the quite LONG, bitterSWT finish. IMPRESSIVE! Best Of Class, Double Gold @ Dan Berger's '17 International Wine Competition**, & WA 93-95 pts [This vendor's $28.99 is HIGHLY competitive, only 1 current wine-searcher entry topping it.]
Based upon my tasting of 12/9, I came to THIS tasting anticipating R.S. -- & found NONE! Even though today's tasting was much, MUCH quicker, I'D go with today's sugar judgement if ONLY because of the winery's notes for the '13 vintage*: 0.22G/100ML, which is WAY below threshold. Nonetheless, if considering laying into this arguably profound wine, I'd first sample bottles from a couple of different vendors -- just in case there WERE blending issues with this relatively LARGE bottling. *Martini's notes not yet posted for the the '14 vintage. :(
**I stated this because it currently shows on wine-searcher's "Tasting Notes" pg, a source I've found reliable. However, a search of the contest results data base shows NOTHING whatsoever for Louis M. Martini. :(

20 min decant. Pleasant sweet toasty oak, elegant, medium bodied, medium length, not jammy, not tremendously complex, but not completely uninteresting, slight resemblance of a left bank Bordeaux. Very good entry level Napa Cab and on par but maybe a slight step up from the 2013. 91-92

P: Med body; Rndish entry with swtish frt [threshold R.S., which another taster also experienced] mbe by balancing acidity & a hint of very, VERY fine tannins. The finish is LONG, tangy/SWT with a touch of spice. Drink now & likely through the end of '19. Enjoyable as quaff, but the sweetness bothers. [HOWEVER, please *do* see my notes of 12/16 & 12/30/17 once those are posted.] This vendor's $29.95 is competitive, though several DO beat it. WA 93-95 pts

Nose is dried black fruit, dusty red fruit, slightly over ripe, tobacco leaf, tarragon, anise and some unintegrated heat. 12
Palate confirming nose straight accross the board. Dry with medium mouthfeel and an intensely modern Napa style. 17
Finish is evolving, complex, contemplative and perhaps the greatest strength of this wine. 9

87-89 pts.

Martini. :(
