Late night drink with J at home. From 375ml bottle. Drank over 1.5 hours. Drank in Sydonios Meridional. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of woodsy earth, cedarwood, blackurrant with hint of leafiness, black cherries, pencil lead. With more air, red cherries and lovely leather meat. Developing. On the palate, dry, gentle high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.25%), integrating high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of cedarwood, black cherries, elegant blackcurrant, cassis, cool menthol/peppermint, smoked ripe bell peppers. With more air, juicy dark red plums and leathery meat and becomes so smooth. Savoriness on a very long finish. Very very good quality. In the mould of classic Left Bank Bordeaux. Will age well! So good with air.

The solider was like a slinky-up and down, but made progress as it came out of the bottle and, like the toy, I found myself going back to it time and again. It had a bouncy, moving flavor that came down the stairs two at a time, with passages of cherry, lychee, and a pause of plums (Ashley Schaefer take note). No doubt this one is worth playing with on Christmas Day, just don't get it tangled up with the wrong food.

J’adore! 94 pts

Decanted. No sediment. Needed 60 minutes to open up. Black cherry and dark currant fruit with subtle smoke and savory notes. Old school Napa cab with lower alcohol and sensibility. The best should be still to come.

Onklers August 23 BYO; 8/26/2023-8/27/2023 (Sindre): Dark red. Opens with smell of fart, but that blows away. Nose of chocolate, dark, dense fruit. The palate is rather fresh with blackcurrent as the most pronounced. Still perceived as young.

With nearly a decade of maturity this is coming round. The acidity remains quite high and there is a certain austerity behind the polished red and black fruit notes. Medium plus weight, structure is till grippy. Medium finish and straightforward. Drinking now, should improve but will it ever charm?

Medium ruby. Still quite young and perhaps playing its cards close to its chest, but I don't think it is a crime to open this. On the nose it is exceptionally pretty and elegant, offering aromas of lightly cooked black cherries, red cherries, cassis, peppermint, dried violets and dusty topsoil. Just medium bodied on the palate but notably energetic with bright, medium+ acidity and lots of fine, grippy tannins framing pretty black fruit and grilled herb flavors. Tasty.

This combines succulent black fruit (plum, cassis, blackberry) and herbal (eucalyptus, mint, currant leaf ) notes with sweet cacao, chocolate and coffee notes. Oak and smoke as well. Very youthful as well, deep ruby in color. This wine is by no means a pinnacle of Napa Valley winemaking, but combines the new world ripeness with an old world freshness in a slightly better than good package of both power and finesse. Worth tasting for sure!

Immediate aromas of red and purple fruits, with a cool earthy tone and then a hint of spice. Agree with other notes: Let this open up for a while before really digging in. After about an hour, this wine develops a more savory profile. Herbal notes mingle with red licorice and allspice. A delicious, classic California Cabernet Sauvignon.

Nose The wine exhibits pronounced developing aromas of black plum, black cherry, blackberry, currant, mocha, vanilla, cigar box, roasted meat, graphite, and dusty stones.
Palate The wine is dry with a full body, high acid, medium + tannins, medium alcohol, and exhibiting pronounced developing flavors of tart cherry, cranberry, black cherry, black plum, bell pepper, vanilla, savory dried herbs with a long finish.
Conclusion The quality of this wine is very good. Drank this from a coravin pour. Did not have with food, but would be excellent paired with a hearty roasted meat dish or steak. Life and wine are good!

Judgment of Lafayette (West Lafayette, IN): Served blind. Bright fruits on the nose including some sweet lush cherry and perhaps a bit of brett. Medium-to-medium-plus body with medium acid and mouthcoating tannins. Lovely sweet dark fruit on the front of the palate and long cherry finish. Blinded, I could not discern this from the left-bank Bordeauxs. My wine of the night.

From the tasting room. Barnyard aromas along with a hint of chocolate. Medium body, with medium acid, medium-low tannins with a bit of grip and really nice juicy red cherry and raspberry flavors, and a savory mid-palate. The acid provides great structure. Delicious.

If you want a huge wine full of mountain fruit, this is not the Droid you're looking for. Medium-full bodied and medium plus acidity. Firm, tannins that suggest several years in the cellar would be appropriate. At this stage it needs a lot of air to come to life. Shows blackberry & cherry on the palate. Graphite, leather, and a medium long finish that shows the potential. Earth tones are almost ready to break out. Next in 2024

Decanted for an hour then consumed over two evenings. I am surprised this Mt. Veeder Cab is accessible at this point as my experience with the producer has been different. It is refreshing to have a traditionally constructed Napa wine. Light on its feet, it is a deceptively complicated bottle which should add weight over the years. Almost feminine in its delivery presently, it provides a more Pinotesque experience with lower alcohol and confounding allure.

This bottle was good. These 375's have been corked to amazing. There was a little taint in what is an otherwise perfectly balanced wine. Good acidity, nice fruit, medium+ body.
Very young wine. Tried a bottle but I'd like to wait another 5-10 years for another. Hard to coax out a lot of flavor even over 5 hours. Solid structure but too young.

Still mostly primary at the moment. Medium+ intensity, medium body, medium+ acidity, medium+ tannin. Fresh red fruits - cherry, raspberry. Fresh dark fruits - blackberry, plum, cassis. Neutral oak. A hint of mushroom and earth. Very restrained cabernet sauvignon with fresh fruit flavors, probably from the Eastern facing slopes, with very little oak influence. Old world palate. Still developing - revisit in 5 years.

Rarely do I drink but not rate a wine, but that's what I'll do now. I expect this wine to be great in a decade or two, but I don't have the experience to predict that with confidence. Today, it's a good wine, but you'll experience terroir and tannin, not the traditional Napa big fruit. I've had a 30+ year old Mayacamas cab, and it was incredible. Reason to believe this will evolve to that.

Napa is hurting right now, so I felt the need to open something from Napa that had a low-key feel about it. I’d anticipated the mild regret of a bottle opened too early... but... this was just singing from the moment the cork came out. A bit dusty, med-bodied, grape tannin but not wood tannin, old school Cabernet excellence. The flavors are mild and perfectly complementary. A touch of pomegranate, licorice, eucalyptus, fruitcake? All I know for sure is yum.

Smelled and looked like typ cab but unfortunately came across slightly thin, green, and uninspiring. Perhaps more time in bottle to settle down acid and soften? Miss for me tonight and low QPR. Their merlot was far better as I recall.
My impressions were more like BRENT25's than the other recent comments.
Medium to dark purple in color. Nose is clean with cedar and black fruit; touch of vanilla. Medium to full in body with rich black fruit. Ripe blueberry, juicy blackberry. Smoke. Quite a seamless texture.
That said, was expecting more, so maybe just needs air. Will re-visit in about an hour or two at dinner.
It did open a bit on the palate, but the nose is still pretty shut off, and overall, I just don't get it at current retail of ~$120 a bottle. Maybe in a weird phase.

This is a gorgeous and unique Cabernet that stands out for its freshness. The lack of new oak leaves a wine that is deceivingly light yet packs expressive aromatics, depth on the palate, and a sense of transparency. Light red cherry, graphite, and a hint of licorice soar from the glass. On the palate, the fruit is vibrant and almost exotic with a high level of acidity. There is significant depth, but without any of the heaviness that can come from a young cab aged in new oak. This is a fantastic wine and a truly one of a kind expression of Napa Cabernet.

deep red-purple color, ripe cassis and cherry on the classically restrained nose, dark spices, on the palate deep cassis notes with hints of cherry and clove, a slight richness to the fruit despite the overall restraint and youth, elegant and with enough appeal one almost forgets the firm structure and tannins, this has all the joyous fruit appeal of a classic California Cabernet but also the restraint and potential longevity of old, it is not a blockbuster in any sense- which is a good thing in my book- but is solid and substantial in a sincere and intimate way, a fine future ahead- in time I envision this being a fine and beautifully nuanced companion to a hearty dinner in the vein of the great classics of Napa and Pauillac.

Medium nose is a little muted, black fruit, dried herbs, espresso, coffee grounds. Palate is subtle at first, then develops quickly with elegant style, layers of dried black fruit, rocky sense, structure sneaks up, medium plus tannins, medium alcohol, medium plus acidity. Bordeaux like structure with CA fruit. Benchmark producer.

Plum Market Luxury Tasting (Bad Hunter - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting, brief note. Power from start-to=-finish, but the balance that is tougher to find/ attain in Napa Cabernet. Long, firm finish that will benefit from cellar time, but isn't so firm to detract from near-term enjoyment. Really excellent wine.

Plum Market Spring Wine Extravaganza (Chicago, IL): Very classically-styled Napa. Low oak, with dusty fruit and fairly generous fruit. Very true to type; not overdone -- enough acidity to help with the fruit here.

luxurious red fruit and a slight but perfect and desirable cranberry taste near the finish. I would say a medium to full body wine (more medium) with a pleasant aroma and wonderfully quaffable. To me this is like an awesome cabernet with some of the better qualities of a pinot noir. No hard edges and just perfectly balanced. This is vine pair's #1 of 50 in 2018 and I can really see why. Lastly, after drinking 3 glasses you really appreciate how it starts out great and just stays there. Every sip requires another sip and another. It is so good I think it even gives you a better buzz. I can't imagine my life without this wine going forward. I will be buying a case and I highly recommend anyone reading this buys at least one to try. Rockstar wine

The 2014 Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon is an simply stunning wine in this vintage. It begins with gorgeous aromatics of blackberries and dark cherries which are woven together with graphite, spring florals, spices and herbs, which all leap from the glass. On the palate this is beautifully structured and balanced, with remarkable purity or fruit. Well-defined with incredibele precision and remarkable length, this Cabernet has it all. While this is already absolutely outstanding, Mayacamas has a tremendous track record for producing age-worthy wines, and this should be no exception, as it possesses all the signs for an incredibly brilliant future ahead.

Red / black fruits, spices, cassis, prune. Pronounced nose and flavour intensity. High tannin and acidity. Long finish.

Really enjoyed this and went great with a cowboy ribeye nose had a restrained elegant dark fruit notes, with rocky mineral hints, some red berries and spices, palate was really fresh , with well integrated tannins that really only shows on the finish which was quite persistent

About 45 minutes to open up to full flavor: cherries, blueberries and spice. Smooth and well balanced tannins. Was watching tv and the bottle was empty in two hours. Just simply enjoyable.

Too early to really say; not sure I understand Wine Spectator's praise but a very good wine with a lot of potential (especially if you can get lucky and find it in the $80's.)

Tasted at a trade tasting in NYC. Very hard and in need of air...should have been decanted! This needs a decade in the cellar. Some fruit and floral and rich spice notes but again a rather bitter finish.

Bay Area Redux - Anniversary trip 2019; 6/26/2019-6/29/2019 (Napa, Sonoma, and points in between): Crimson, bright in appearance. Has a touch (3% each) of merlot and cab franc. Tobacco, plums, and a bordeaux-like profile on the nose. Rich fruit, grippy tannins, beautiful.

Drank on NYE with pizza. 4 hr decant. Nose: closed, but some blackberry and leather. Mouth: reserved and still tannic, but bright black and red fruit, pencil lead, and some cigar box. Finish: medium length. Overall: very enjoyable and needs a much longer decant - this is going to be great in a few years and I suspect this is 20+ yr ageable.
