This was drinking really beautiful now. Light, elegant and a lovely fruitiness still with some depth, complexity and wonderful balance from the secondary and tertiary notes as well.
Cherry coke, raspberry, mashed strawberry, blackberry, rose petals, crushed stone, mushroom, slight oak touch, a bit of vanilla and some earthiness from forest floor and mushroom. Only a very bit of funk but almost unnoticeable compared to other bottles from Pataille and a bit of spiciness on the tongue.

Dark red/cola in color. Transparent, but dark and not quite as crystalline as some red burgundy can be. On the nose, this is quite ripe and open with liqueur like notes of summer berries, cherry, and red fruits. Almost candied, but in a good way. Quite floral as well (lilac) and then spice. On the palate, this has nice body and mid palate density. Texture is more fine linen than silk. Red fruited and very spicey with good mineral undertones that give the wine lift. A core acid structure that is very well integrated along with ripe but quite present tannins. This is quite smooth right now with a slightly spicey finish with nice length. Alcohol seems medium to me and very well balanced. Whole cluster shows on the palate for sure. Quite enjoyable.

This remains rather shy in its expression, but nice Marsannay nevertheless. Medium light, showing some complexity. There might be an upswing potential.

Perman Red Burgundy night (Zoom-Perman Wines, Chicago IL): The nose is uplifted and perfumed with a delicate nature to the tones of strawberries, red cherries, rose petals, fresh picked berries, spice notes, crushed rocks, and some hints of earth. The Medium bodied feel has a lighter touch with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. This is lovely and understated. In other words, classic Pataille as this is extremely elegant and the kind of Pinot Noir that can only come from Burgundy and this winemaker. This will likely need another 3+ years to fully round into form as the acidity is a bit extra crisp right now and the tones aren't fully working together just yet.

On opening, worryingly petillant, and tasted completely off. Decanted, and massively improved. Actually quite fruity, but still a bit of unexpected tannin.

while a nice wine, this vintage doesn't hang with the 16 & 17 vintages. Many of the same characteristics, but comparatively its nose and length are stunted.

Starts out very vegetal and leafy in an unpleasant way, a little funky - I believe Sylvain does 100% whole cluster on this cuvee. I ended up decanting this and luckily the funk blew off. Pretty sappy, stemmy, dark red Marsannay fruit with a slight crunch. The best part was the last 1/4 of the carafe. Went well with roast chicken.

Showing better than the bottle I had last year as the stems, etc. have integrated nicely. Flavor is dominated by a pure, somewhat dark cherry note and there is a also a little spice. Drinking well.

Light crimson to ruby. Vivid aromas of ripe red plum, black and red cherry, sous Bois and spice. An elegant wine soft and approachable on the entry with breadth to the mid-palate supported with a surprisingly strident acidity and a plum skin texture. Firm savoury lined tannins give shape to the palate keeping the palate's fatness and flesh under control. There is plenty of fruit with Bing cherry paste, red plum coulis, and even wine gums as the palate opens further. It was a reasonably powerful wine with a good depth of flavour, but I found it lacked some complexity and excitement - as the glass opened, some feral notes showed. A little monochrome. possibly needs more time to allow the tannins to resolve.

Much press and nice vineyard care. But this 2015, while pleasant at a restaurant, was both petillant ( not clean) and tasted too 2015 and hence less terroir specific. Large dark cherry helpings in a rustic stew with some black pepper notes. Very dark red and more corpulent than most Marsannay.

Becky Wasserman & Co: Icons & Rising Stars of Burgundy (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Some more odd funk here. Stony soil and grasslike notes. Smells a bit moldy and off putting. Better palate, on a round palate texture, offering ripe and rich fruits, some light bitterness, and a puckering sensation. Still feels fairly flat on the palate. Bitter mold shows up on the finish, and brings along with it its friend bitter funk.
Required a bit of a swirl to get the slight fizz of the palate but post that it was straight to the point, soft, good ripeness , very welcoming and enjoyable wine. Not the most deep or complex but in no way simple. Nice soft red and quite versatile. 89

Darker ruby color. First pretty open, notes of dark raspberries, red berries, also some plum, violets and some spices. Constantly changing in the glass... unfortunately not for the better. It‘s medium+ bodied, tastes like there were quite some stems too, has medium-high acidity and medium+ tannin that is good. The problem I am having is that there seems to be quite some volatile acidity that kind of kills the joy factor...especially in combination with the stems. I am still waiting for my Marsannay that makes me a believer. This came with high praise.... maybe it‘s in a young and weird place but I am not sure about it...
A private dinner (Restaurant Eels, Paris, France): Marsannay tends to be cool and mineral, verging on austere, especially when stems have been used. This wine retains this basic character, but the warm 2015 vintage has ladled on a good dollop of ripe, even liquorous cherries, and there are lovely notes of warm spices and earth. Pure and linear style, very good persistence.

Young and primary but very promising. Blackberry, cherry, strawberry, mace, fresh beet root. Touches of violet, lime blossom and dark chocolate seal the deal. Elegant and powerful; subtle structure is nonetheless deep; velvety tannins carry a long finish. What a wine! One of the best values in Burgundy, no doubt. Surprisingly open now, but should be a great keeper for at least a decade.

2015 Sylvain Pataille (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Lighter color and lighter weight than the village. Floral and more mixed red and black berries. Fine mineral structure. Elegant and one of the better, more refined Marsannays I have tasted. Excellent, will improve.

PNP. Cork perfect. Color dark ruby w purplish edges. Nose has cranberry, sap and strawberries w some earth but mostly bright red fruit bordering on cinnamon. Swishing shows significant acid and tannin structure that dries the finish. Sipping shows the ripeness of the vintage and gives a full bodied glossy mouthfeel that is quite pleasant. I have had several different vintages from pataille but this seems the most complete so far. Say what you like about marsannay but this is serious wine that pleases tonight. I think that this has what it takes to go for awhile too. I think it improved with decanting....just needs some air

Much darker and richer than the 2012 that I drank a couple of years ago. Cherries came through, very well balanced.
