NR because of my late note. Opened a few months ago from a recent purchase. This is the 2nd time I've tried this wine. The first was the 2013 with my brown bag group and they thought the '13 was excellent with great floral notes. 6 months later the same group thought the '16 was missing the floral notes of the '13. I agreed. I have a few bottles of each left. We'll revisit. For now, I'll hold off one buying more. I did purchase a 6 pack of the '20 Pape Clement that I'm looking forward to trying soon.

Has really developed well over the last few years. Great balance, with enough oaky buttery notes but really well defined acidity. Great accompaniment for lobster as if it was a top notch Burgundian Chardonnay

This has integrated oak providing structure but not imparting anything remotely close to vanilla or butter, so no worries with that. High acidity balanced with medium body, citrus, a touch of grass. Below, someone said they noted passionfruit, and I totally get that. The wine is integrated, but not resolved. Plenty of time left. Not yet embarking on a tertiary voyage.

High Acidty Medium Alcohol Medium Bodied Long Finish
Medium (+) Intensity - Lemon, Green Apple, Grapefruit, Passion Fruit, Peach, Butter, Almond, Vanilla, Cloves, Oak, Smoke.
Ripe citrus fruits and green fruits, some stone fruits, quite oaky with notes of sweet spices. A long nutty finish of toasted almonds. Great acidity. This is very high quality Bordeaux that out-performs for its price, doesn't taste like a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon at all due to its oakiness, one might mistaken it for a Burgundy white. Overall an intense, complex, and balanced wine with good length. Drink or hold.

Pale straw. At this point, a Domaine de Chevalier Blanc that seems somewhat stoic. A fairly classic but very mineral nose offers slightly subtle aromas of fresh pineapple, fresh green apple, green mango, lemon curd, spring flowers, buttered toast, a hint of baking spice and a lot of crushed stones. Just medium bodied on the palate, with medium+ acidity and a crisp, lively, almost tense sort of texture. The brightness - both in flavor and feel - is charming, but I can see many thinking this lacks richness.

After reading all of the incredible reviews I think my expectations were set too high. That, or I opened and poured too quickly. The nose carried hints of tropical passion fruit and pineapple and plenty of lemon and a little peach but the palate did not back up with the complexity nor the body I was expecting. Plenty of acidity (quite high in fact), but I found the flavors all rather one dimensional. Good wine and definitely age-able from here (and recommended). Paired with a lightly seasoned grilled salmon.

The wine is impeccable; on the nose, it's fresh and very complex with aromas of peach, passion fruit, grapefruit, lime, minerals, stone and a touch of light spice; vibrant acidity, medium body and medium alcohol level, elegance and a fresh finish with medium+ aftertaste.

Mirazur restaurant, Velo Roussillon cycling trip (Menton, France): Easily the best bottle/vintage I've had of this wine, and tied for WOTN among stiff competition at Mirazur. Beautifully complex with melon, apple, pear - all soft fruit flavors with oak for richness. Mexican vanilla is how I might characterize the oak contribution. This is a vintage to savor.

Great balanced between primary flavors (gooseberry, stone fruits, white flowers) and new oak treatment which for me is key in making great white Bordeaux. Lingering acidity and nice minerality. However way too young at the moment and too much linear on the finish to offer true hedonist pleasure. Would keep any bottle for 5-10years at least.

This has come such a long way in a year (or it was the bottle, or me...), now bursting with pineapple, lemon, oyster, and touches or bergamot and chantilly cream. On the palate, the tropical fruit is complemented by the most wonderful smoky and creamy and as luscious as this feels, there’s no lack of acidity to balance it. Domaine de Chevalier whites can be difficult to taste young and even when encountered less than 10 years of age, I find they often need quite a lot of air. But this is surprisingly lovely today with a long life ahead. 94+

Langtons Chateaux of Bordeaux (Luna Park, Milsons Point): The supporting characteristics first....slight smoke and toast, a little butter, cream; guessing controlled lees manipulation, a little spice. A little apple and ripe gooseberry. Juicy, supple, the apple more to the fore here. All the supporting characteristics as well. Lightly textured. So young but so balanced and elegant. Complex. Yum.

70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Semillon Luminous! Like olive-oil. Wow! Heady rich lemon fruit with plenty of toasty oak. Really intense, great clarity, some smoke/reduction and more of the pressed white flowers of the second wine. Pineapple and complex exotic fruit in the background, a great sense of cream too, and super fresh! Cool structure, wonderfully balanced – it feels drier from the mid-palate onwards, more precise. Lovely oak, deep toasty mineral/mealy flavours (very White Burgundy), dried pineapple and long… With time, I noted some amazing grapefruit (fragrant too), exotic pear! Super freshness throughout. Expressive, floral and textured.

I am a big fan of Domaine de la Chevalier Blanc, especially the recent vintages which has a lovely tension in it. This 2016 exhibits a smoked mineral and generous array of tree fruits. Good body and textured lees. Soft like many 2016 whites, surprisingly drinkable now. (87-88/100)

UGC 2016 tasting, San Francisco. While not tasting as bright as the 2015 from this time last year, it was the best of the 2016 Bordeaux blancs tasted this evening. It was tight, but still possessed that classic crisp grapefruit element as well as some lemon, forest floor, and stone-like minerality that one hopes for. Seventy-five percent Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Semillon. One can enjoyed this white right now; it will improve with age too.

Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux Tasting of the 2016 Vintage (Metreon San Francisco): Clean but definite note of SO2 in the nose. UGC 2019 Los Angeles (Jeremy Hotel, West Hollywood): Oak seems more over the top than the Larrivet, but still very restrained on the nose. Denser on the palate and creamier with more lemon and slate. Tasted at the 2016 UGC alongside several other Pessac whites. This is truly excellent and really stood out among the crowd as being a level above the other wines from the region. Tasting some Pessac-Léognans 2016 vintage (Château Bouscaut): Blending 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon, this is rather closed in, and yet it shows so much potential – a "burgeoning richness" with density. Tasted from bottled barrel sample at the Domaine. Excellent showing. Explosive citrus & tropical fruit freshness that is so characteristic for this wine in its early youth, but below this exuberant first impression there is an excellent wine in the making. Crispy - almost salty - minerality, sharp, precise and although still hidden behind its oak at this stage a complex, elegant, wine is developing with a long life ahead. This is one of these wines you fall in love with instantly. Once the wine will be released, it will be very difficult to resist opening the case...

Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux Tasting of the 2016 Vintage (Metreon San Francisco): Clean but definite note of SO2 in the nose. Rather closed because of the SO2 and the barrel character was really the most obvious aroma.Ok balance and exit. This will need a lot of time to come around to perhaps something great if you want to pay the price.

UGC 2019 Los Angeles (Jeremy Hotel, West Hollywood): Oak seems more over the top than the Larrivet, but still very restrained on the nose. Denser on the palate and creamier with more lemon and slate. Good density and more interesting on the palate with a nice citrus finish. I had the 2010 recently and it showed well, so I wonder if this will blossom...

Tasted at the 2016 UGC alongside several other Pessac whites. This is truly excellent and really stood out among the crowd as being a level above the other wines from the region. Lots of exotic fruit in a big, explosive taste up front. Finishes long with noticeable but integrated acid. Definitely stock up.

UGC Bordeaux (Drake Hotel - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Shows hints of both Sauv Blanc and Semillon nicely, but comes across as rather closed, despite clearly having very good density (and potential). Very long finish. Tough for me to assess today, but I'be be optimistic and positive here.

Zachys Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2016 (New York City, NY): So this was tasted near the end of the evening of a spectacluar array of 16's. I found it open and definitely wood has influenced the tasting. That said it has been almost 2 hours so air maybe has helped.

Tasting some Pessac-Léognans 2016 vintage (Château Bouscaut): Blending 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon, this is rather closed in, and yet it shows so much potential – a "burgeoning richness" with density. There is so much going on here - with notes of pear, peach white and lemon - yet it needs time in your cellar to come around. A gorgeous wine. 13.5% alcohol.

Arvi Standing Bordeaux 2016 Tasting (Dolder Grand, Zurich): Only dry white I tasted at the event. Mineral and herbal, dry and salty with stone fruits. The palate surprised with kiwi and convinced with the right amount of freshness.

The Grand Tour - day five (Bordeaux): Barrel sample. Soft on the palate, plenty of lees, very Sauvignon blanc with plenty of drying burr on the palate.

Académie des Cinquante Bordeaux visit; 9/20/2017-9/23/2017: Barrel sample, prélevé le 21 Septembre 2017. Fruit explosion on the nose, ranging from apple to ripe pineapple, floral, almost Riesling-like, beautifully balanced, beautifully structured, precise and elegant, pure and mineral, good fruit concentration, oaky finish, excellent length. An outstanding Domaine de Chevalier in the making.

Tasted after the 2014. Again lovely balance, a bit richer maybe, vibrant, generous, slightly herbal, smoky. Fine length. 92-93+

Barrel sample tasted en primeur. Very good but not a top Domaine de Chevalier. More closed than normal at this stage. The character changes so much with age this could come around and merit a much higher score.

Blending 75% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Semillon produced a richly textured, fat, sweet, lush, ripe wine with a mineral and yellow citrus driven character that is on display in the finish.
