no amount of air and decanting seemed to be able to shake the reduction that permeated from the nose. Luckily the palate didn’t have the same issue. Still relatively structured and tannic it showed the vintage (and normally I feel liger reignot tends to be more restrained than the other bottlings). But material wise, there’s a lot of chunky dark concentrated fruit that’s outlined by that coarse tannin. A little vegetation in the finish but generally a long sappy mouthfeel.
I would recommend not touching these for awhile to allow the structure to soften and let the fruit shine

Intense nose of Asian spice, menthol, pine needles and dark fruits. It is rich and sappy with great build and texture. It has outstanding length of flavour.

Fairly closed, and not under the best circumstances as a result. However this showed a bit riper than the 12’, and more alcohol forward. A shame as I recall this being delicious and floral earlier in the year, but tonight the tomato leaf and alcohol is slightly more prominent. Even if not the best timing, still a treat to try this twice in a season, and in a lineup with the 02, 07, and 12 no less, though this 16’ was showing much more open and distinctive back in February. Hold until 2028 if the 07’ is any indication.

Liger Belair Dinner: Opulence personified, so pure and serious. This was a delight to drink at first, and then seemed to shut down after a couple of hours. So if you drink today, pop and pour don't decant or delay. Of course, this will evolve for decades, but it's remarkable how complex it is in its youth.

La Paulée de NY Grand Tasting (Pier 60 - NYC): A step up in depth and concentration from the Village wines. The aromas here are more dense and brooding with the same spicy, ripe black fruit character. Palate is similarly a step up in depth and concentration. Whereas the Village wines were approachable, this is still holding back and needs time to unfold. 92-94+

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. Floral and spice driven start with complex cross-section of black and red berry aromas and flavors. Powerful without overt heaviness, and a very long, exciting, minerally finish. So charming now, with enormous upside from 2025.

La Paulée 2019 Grand Tasting of 2016 Burgundy (Pier 60, New York): Stillriper but not overripe berry fruit and Christmas spice. Lush, long, altogether wonderful. Now this is really special, bigger than the Echezeaux that followed. I retasted this without spitting for its unadulterated pleasure.

Heady, complex aromas of dark red fruit, mint, and Vosne spice. Has a lifted, floral, zen like quality to it. Nice, fresh entry with concentrated fruit, coats the mouth well and fans out gracefully on the back. While it’s not the bruising powerhouse I recall the 12’ being on release, this has greater elegance and is clearly impressive in its own right.

It draws you in with its intoxicating perfume. I commented that there was plenty of Asian spice to the wine and Louis-Michel said he put it in there because he has a good market in Asia. I didn’t notice any Polish spice. There’s a suggestion of menthol and the dark cherry fruit has great intensity. The palate is silky and detailed and it has concentration and phenomenal length without any heaviness.

Winos' excellent adventure in France; 6/22/2017-6/27/2017 (All over France): Very sensual and precise nose displaying intense pure black fruits, blackberry, raspberry, ink, sap, dark flowers and mineral. Silky, pure, decadent and energetic palate. The finish is seamless and unbelievably long. Hedonistic yet fresh and energetic wine. Perhaps Vosne 1er cru equivalent of Les Amoureuses.

Aromatics quite shut, but palate is terrific. Sweetness, purity and precision in a single package. (365/2639)

There’s a touch of reduction but not enough to hide the wonderful floral spice complexity of this wine. It is expansive, deep, long and fresh.
