A lot of roasted aromas, maybe a hint too much. Red berries are the background, powerful Burgundy with long finish. 95

  • Excellent. From the first sniff, it was floral, elegant and filled with a delicious masculine rosey scent which corresponds to my memory of what Richebourg is. After the first 10 minutes, it went to a slightly sleepy state for another good hour. On the palate, it was this deep bouquet of red cherries, rose petals, ripe raspberries, and a hint of lavender running in forte. The tannins were noticeably soft, giving a rather velvety and silky finish. How good was it? The bottle was empty in less than 2.5 hours… I wouldn’t however suggest keeping this in the cellar for very much longer.

  • Just stunning from initial whiff (pronounced stems which evolve into subtle floral notes) to last drop (balanced, sweet, persistent and clear). (406/10418)

  • A fantastic, truly amazing young Richebourg.
Very floral nose, red airy and perfumed, summer meadow, strawberries and lovely wild strawberries, smoke, dusty minerals and a mix of fine oriental spices and herbs.
Spicy red cherries, hints of pepper, creamy strawberries, ripe mashed sweeter wild strawberries.
More depth and some darker meaty fruit lurking underneath.
Perhaps a bit less stems showing than I'm used to in DRC's wines?
Exceptional balance, very good acidity and the length is tremendous.
Young - almost sinfully so, but singing on a high note already.
    97+

  • Delicate but exuberant floral aromatics with vitamin accent. Blood and iron also present beneath clean, sweet red fruited (more so than RSV even) palate that yells I am Richebourg. (3885/10418)

  • Now I'm one of those jerks who drinks young DRCs off lists, sorry! This could become 98+. Simply seamless and flawless, all floral and mineral. (3410/10418)

  • Part of a 2016 DRC tasting, a vintage that impressed with how approachable it already was, purity, elegance and versatility. For me, the La Tâche scored best, followed by Richebourg and Romanée-Conti – although the latter may well surpass the La Tâche in the long run. Corton came in last. Montrachet, Échezeaux and Grands-Échezeaux were not produced commercially that year and older vintages offered instead.

Less fruit-forward than the other climats. Slightly lighter fruit profile, but with the signature cherry fruit still dominant. Spices – not unlike La Tâche after a while in the glass – tickle the nose. Some nutty aromas in the mix as well, but not persistent. A herbal freshness teleporting you into a last Spring forest when you close your eyes. Medium intensity. Finely balanced and nuanced palate showing an assortment of spices and herbs. This was in my view most accessible of the 2016s.

  • DRC 2016 – what survived the frost: Intro: Another great vintage. At this early stage I slightly prefer the 2016s over the 2015s at the same point last year as the former show a bit more open and complex (due to a less dominant fruit core). Out of the 5 reds, the Richebourg is my #1 with its early charms and seductiveness. The La Tache is the most complex and shows a tad more open than the Romanee Conti, which is so dense and packed that it very likely will reach higher highs than all other wines. The RSV also boasts the fantastic structure and finesse without the incredible depth of the big 3.

TN: An incredible 98+ point nose displaying a wide array of aromas with a sexy nuttiness with fresh and roasted almonds, dark fruit, fresh red berries, ripe red berries, strawberry candy, fresh herbs, spices, sous bouis, ash, wet rocks. Incredibly deep and seductive. For me clearly the best nose of all 2016s (at least today). A tad less ready and convincing on the palate with loads of pure fresh red fruit, rose hip, other floral aromas, wet slate, herbs, spices. While it‘s still hints at a lot of potential, the palate shows a bit less complex than the LT and the finish is a not as long as with the RC and LT. The tannins and acidity are, however, as perfect as with the two monopole vineyards. This will be fantastic once mature, but other than with the RC and LT I‘m not sure if it can reach perfection (mainly due to its length).

  • Dégustation Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Verticale 2016, avec Déjeuner (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune): Sit-down tasting with Aubert of the 2016 lineup. Slightly reductive start. Also a bit smoky and black fruited on nose for Vosne Grand Cru. This is even meatier, denser than Romanée St. Vivant with a reticent middle, even brooding, then great fefinement on long, long finish. As great as this wine will be, I preferred the Romanée St. Vivant. 94-96 point potential.

  • Exuberantly spice nose. This bottle was opened and decanted for a short while prior to serving and it helped. Loads of red candy and bright red cherries. Classic Riche spices out front on the palate. There is also a sweetness on the palate. Great length. Will improve.

  • Winos' excellent adventure in France; 6/22/2017-6/27/2017 (All over France): Expressive nose displaying pure red and black fruits, raspberry, black cherry, cherry liqueur, noticeable Vosne spice, sap, spicy spices, sesame and limestone. Excellent concentration, beautifully layered, silky and polished, good energy and precision, perfect amount of acidity, strong earthly mineral and a long seamless finish. The texture is a bit more sensual/sophisticated than the RSV. Excellent showing.
