Brought to a tasting, this performed very well again. There were layers of flavour in this wine, just off dry, great balance and seemingly no rush to drink this (but drinking very well now) (A-).

Everytime I pop one of these I literally think the same exact thing. 'Man, I freaking love Huet'. Super fresh bottle with no signs of oxidation and a beautiful light straw color. Just classic Huet chenin on the nose and palate with ripe orchard fruits dipped in honey and lightly rolled in wool. I'm pretty sure it would be physically impossible not to love this wine. 3 bottles left and I'm in no hurry based on this one.
This was a pop and pour, which was a mistake, as this improved with air (and with warming up a bit). A classic vouvray nose, with waxy and wooly notes along with apples and honey. More of the same on the medium, pure, complex, beautifully integrated palate. This is now in between a sec and demi sec in style, given it is 17 years old now. I think it will last a while yet. No rush, but lovely now (A-).

Man, I love Huet, especially with a little age on it. ZERO worries of premox on this one as it pours a light golden yellow color and fills the mouth with a beautiful melody of sour apples, honeyed peaches, a slight hint of wool and a blast of acidity on the finish. So fresh, and so delicious. One of the best values in wine, period. Happy to have a handful more as these should run for a long time.

The nose is rich and opulent - something you could sit around smelling all day without taking a sip. On the palate, orange marmalade and strawberry preserves are balanced impeccably with mouth-watering acidity.

Top of cork was wet, but most of the cork was dry. Odd. Light golden; aromatic, quince, pronounced honey; full bodied, richly textured but balanced by medium-plus fresh acidity, medium 13.5% alcohol, quince and some citrus; finish is medium to medium-minus length. Very enjoyable, showing some maturity, but I think lacking the complexity to be one of the best Huets. Consistent with my other bottles. 91

Deep yellow color. A beacon of yellow apple fruit on the nose. Glorious Chenin viscosity cut by moderate soil and fine acidity that is sometimes lacking in this vintage. Honeyed, spiced apple with an appropriate level of sweetness for a true Demi-Sec. The last few bottles of this over the past 3 years have just been magnificent and in full bloom, thankfully without any oxidation issues. Drink up with enthusiasm!

Cork with slight mold on the top, though in otherwise great condition. Deep yellow color; aromatic with wet wool, quince, slight honey; palate is full bodied, smooth rich texture throughout, off-dry, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium-plus acidity which provides the wine with great freshness which persists throughout a tangy orange midpalate; finish is medium length. A very good Huet though not a great one, drinking well now but this could easily last 1-2 more decades, though I wouldn't count on it to improve. 91

Lovely. Only moderately sweet, but a powerful, beguiling mouthful of chenin spice, apples and honey. A slight kick at the finish just makes me want another sip. Not a subtle wine, but everything is in beautiful balance. This wine is still very drinkable at 14 years of age, and may be at its peak of enjoyment, although I suspect this particular plateau will persist for at least a few more years. I wish I had more.

Deep yellow. Honeyed aromas. Great viscous Chenin feel. Perhaps the most exotic bottle I've had of this, with pineapple in addition to pear. Moderately sweet, and only average acidity, but excellent back end soil, reminiscent of the structure of Clos du Bourg. Terrific bottle with more staying power than I had anticipated when tasting it earlier.

Incredible wine and in a perfect drinking window for my tastes. Beautiful and haunting perfume of citrus and apples on the nose, with layered orchard fruits, a slight bit of spice, and a lingering touch of sweetness on the very long finish. The acidity is meshing perfectly with the deep fruit flavors to create an incredible mouthfeel. I could drink this every day and be a happy, happy man. Delicious!

Medium yellow. Despite one of the worst black mold deposits I've ever seen on a cork, the wine was pristine with citrus and apricot in an off dry package and hallmark rich Chenin feel. Perfect state of maturity.

Absolutely gorgeous bottle. Enjoyed over three days with little if any deterioration. No signs of prem or early ox. Lemon, white flower and quinine tinged baking spice on the nose. The wine is at once powerful and effortless in the mouth. Cool, creamy citrus-stone fruit and rocky mineral drive. The weight is palpable but sheathed in satin glide. Perfect acid-rs balance, this covers all 3 bases: aggressive/interesting attack, rich-yet-snappy mid-palate and super long finish. Magical stuff.

Full yellow. Pure fruit and a touch of light honey. Off dry pungent orange, excellent Chenin texture. Solid acidity, very strong coating of soil at the end (more like Clos du Bourg than Le Mont).

Boy, pretty much as noted 3 months ago. Medium yellow. Strong yellow apple scents with some crystallized fruit. Off dry, beautiful weight and feel, fine acidity and full of soil on the finish. A mind's eye Demi-Sec in my book with notable freshness and vigor.

Dinner with Alok, Kristie, and Roger (San Francisco): Medium-golden color; nose is aromatic, waxy, lanolin, white fruit with pear, yellow apple, honeyed; palate is medium bodied, off-dry, medium-plus acidity, white fruit; medium to medium-plus finish. Overall quite good for Vouvray demi-sec with lovely fruit and fresh acidity, but Chenin blanc appears to be one of the few whites that I think doesn't dramatically improve with a bit of RS... if anything I may prefer the fresher minerality (and the price!) of the sec. 90-91

Opened for Sevilla-Barca. Seepage all the way up the cork and a bit of black mold at the end. This clearly has seen better days. The wine didn't taste bad, but was greatly diminished from where it should be, especially this early in its long life. We still drank it, we ain't proud, but it wasn't particularly *transplendent* (as one comes to expect from Huet). To quote Alvy Singer, I can think of another word.

Medium yellow. A beacon of pure yellow apple and pear fruit without much, if any, botrytis. Spherical Chenin feel, off dry, crisp acidity at the end and that long, pure, crystalline fruit. Not quite as much soil as in the Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec by my recollection. This is pretty much ideal off dry Vouvray just reaching its peak-gorgeous wine!

Excellent and eye-opening. Pronounced pineapple against a peachy backdrop. Aromas of honey, white flowers, roasted marshmallows, and wax. Full-bodied without being syrupy or viscous. I usually disfavor sweet table wines, but I like the sweetness here.
Just based on the way this tastes now, without any experience with aging Vouvray, I think this wine would age wonderfully. It appears to be developing a noble waxy note similar to petrol in riesling. But Jancis Robinson says 2008-2014!?
Medium golden color; nose is aromatic, honeyed, slightly waxy/lanolin, white peach, deep and complex while also being well integrated; palate is medium bodied, off-dry, excellent medium-plus acidity throughout keeping it fresh, lemon-lime; medium length finish. Very well balanced, interesting and complex without being over-the-top, and never too sweet. Enjoyable now but will last a decade or longer. 91-92

Complex nose of honey, pears, ripe cantaloupe, crushed sea shells (a nod to the somm at Picasso, Las Vegas), also hazelnut. A heavy, viscous body with ripe melon flavors leading to a long finish. Paired with foie gras beautifully.

Gorgeous wine and still just a pup. It has shed any of its early, '05 baby fat and now shows more verve and tension than previous examples. Gorgeous pear, vanilla cream, and lanolin on the nose and pinpoint balance on the palate. Can't wait to see where this wine goes in 5 or 50 years!

Yellow. Charming nose of honeysuckle, Golden Delicious apple and pear. Medium weight and not as caressing or waxy as Chenin Blanc can be. Perfect, modest amount of residual sugar, great clarity of fruit including a higher toned touch of citrus, solid acidity, and an earthy finish that I associate more with Clos du Bourg than Le Mont. Gorgeous and the prototype Vouvray for those who argue that the Demi-Sec style is its greatest expression. No argument here-the balance of this bottle was superb.

Medium yellow. Mostly citrus fruit. Medium body, good texture. Off dry. Like other Huet 2005's, this has really pared down and is showing a good core of acidity. Nice dash of earth on the finish.

PNP on a hot night with excellent Thai food. Drank much of this waiting for apps to show up, but well balanced sweetness with good acidity and decent cut, but not sharp. I don't know that acidity or tension will increase with age, but no sign of oxidation or overly dark color or taste. Curious to see how the remaining 5 bottles age

Lunch at Binomio with Des, ALex H and Chris (Binomio, Craig Road): A good wine somewhat hampered by a slight lack of acidity. It had a pretty nice, if rather subdued nosem with neutral white fruited scents shading into more distint tones of persimmon and kumquat, then touches of beeswax, flowers and some mineral and spice. The palate was actually fruitier than the nose, showing an almost off-dry sweetness in its appley flavours on its attack, and sweeter stone-fruit notes of nectarines and persimmons on the midpalate. There was a nice fullness and depth to it, and a bit of complexity as well, showing touches of honeyed beeswax and a nice bit of spice on the finish. I thought it was just a little flabby at times, with lowish acidity peeking out in little lemony notes - overall decently balanced, but it did not quite have enough lift and cut to near up the sweeter textures. Still though, a good, enjoyable wine that went well with the more heavily flavoured dishes. I think this is still a baby though - it needs a lot more time to grow, develop and shed its puppy fat. Give it 10-15 years and it should show a lot better.

Apricots, peaches and lychees at the fore with oily Rhone like white flowers, olive oil and mineral oils on the back. Tasting like a German Riesling, smelling like a nz sb but finishing like a white Rhone. Interesting to say the least and not easy to fathom.

Tasted non blind at a wine dinner. Opened and served immediately.
Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of brown spices, peach cobbler and carmalized apples. Flavors of spice soaked pears, apple pie and fresh peaches. Medium to bright acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold. No rush. Should be long lived.

The nose shows strong notes of raw sugar, and crème brûlée. (Reminiscent of a Boston cream doughnut.) Waxy lanolin, citrus, and Asian pear notes are somewhat more subtle with a smoky mineral kick in the finish. The palate is fairly rich but with very tight fruit and enough acid to beg a few more years of bottle age. Probably best enjoyed between 2015 and 2025, but should last much longer.

Amazing underlying material, but a bit of a confused teenager at this point. Definitely in an awkward phase, of sorts. Only wish more acid had been present, which would have given the wine more lift. Best to hold for another few years at least.

Light yellow. Spicy pear and yellow apple. Relatively full, off dry, low acid, some bitterness and austerity in the finish. I am a huge Huet fan, but I am increasingly disappointed by the '05s, which are rich but lack the lively edge that makes these wines so great and so ageworthy. I had the same reaction to the Sec version of this wine the other night.

Very primary yellow fruit, quince paste, honey. Richer than the '02, less developed. On the second day open there is a leesy sulfur smell also. Pretty tight at the moment, let them rest. Third day, starting to open up and relax a bit in the mouth, no longer the impression of just primary sweet fruit. This is going to be a very good wine, but will need a long time in the cellar I think.

The Dry Range of 2007 Huets (San Francisco Wine Trading Company): This is so much more exotic than the '07s, with ripe pineapple and quince notes. Unctuous in comparison, this clearly shows lower acid but shares its long, stony finish with its younger brethren. Delicious now.

Sadly this bottle was totally dead on opening, and when checked 4 hours later. No backbone, no fruit, nothing. The first of my 6 bottles, hopefully I just got the bad one out of the way.

Light yellow color. Clean and fresh on the nose and palate. Nice finish with moderate sweetness. Pretty versatile wine, as it could even start the evening if you have something big enough coming after, and it will pair well with food. A-

musedir Does Dallas! (Citrus Bistro, Dallas, TX): WIML93

Honey, a little dry straw. Aromatically pretty tight. In the mouth lovely sweetness, glycerin, buffered by some acidity.
Very primary but delicious. Great with Penn Cove muscles cooked with white wine.

Mature pears, lemon, full bodied and ceamy, long. I guess the acidity is there, but masked by pronounced fruit and delicate sweetness. Very young.

Amazing underlying material, but a bit of a confused teenager at this point. Definitely in an awkward phase, of sorts. Only wish more acid had been present, which would have given the wine more lift. Best to hold for another few years at least.

After 18 Hours: Banana creme, fruit/sugar/acid seemingly coming into better balance
3 Days: Nice ripe pear, into its own.

Not a lot on the nose,Orange, pineapple, lychee, light body, more muted fruit, minerals coming through, slightly bitter aftertaste, cant help but think that this wine is a bit closed or else a dissapointing effort from Huet

No notes. This bottle wasn't nearly as good as the first bottle. Light yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose and palate of oranges and lychee. Medium acidity and light to medium body. The sweetness is this bottle was far lower than the first bottle. Interesting.

Had this bottle with a dinner of mussels prepared with calvados, apples & bacon. Nose was restrained but on the palate it was impressive. It was three weeks ago so I can't relate details, but it was deep, rich, complex and perfectly matched to the meal.
