Crimson in color. 15% ABV. Sublime nose of red fruits, licorice, citrus and mint. Medium body with mouth watering acidity. Well balanced with supple, tart fruits. Cherry, blood orange, strawberry and pepper on the palate. Nice length on the finish. Not generally what I expect from Carlisle with the tart fruits as opposed to bright, juicy fruits. Delicious nonetheless. Best over the next 1-2 years.

Open for business and I am here for it. Full body, med-lo tannin, highish acid. Round and opulent with bark berry brambles, floral-spicy notes. Med alcohol presence on the finish and a bit on the nose. Feels complete and was a pleasure to drink.

This is much better than my last bottle I wouldn’t think a year would make much of a difference so I’m assuming it is more related to the fact that had Covid last year and was maybe still recovering my sense of taste? Anyways nose of bramble with some dark cherry, on tge palate get dark fruits, blackberry and dark cherry has a bit of Bordeaux character, hint of vanilla, mildly tannic, surprisingly acidic for a zin though would only characterize as moderate at most, has a dense mouthfeel which is again more Bordeaux like, had a lengthy finish, this was quite nice and I wish I had more.

This bottle has lots of raspberry and strawberry fruit - not as dark as some Carlisle Zins, but really well structured and drinking nicely now. It is balanced with acidity, which dissipated after being open for an hour. Very elegant and went great with pork chops!

Popped the last of the 2016 Bedrocks and I was surprised that it wasn't more rewarding. Maybe I was expecting more development from a prestige vineyard bottling that is now in year three of development? There was nothing wrong with the wine, it had plenty of bright fruit, even some of that telltale orange peel flavor, but it never had that fifth gear of enjoyment that so often come with these Carlisle wines. I blamed it on the bottle of '19 Monbousquet that we had earlier in the week, now that one was SINGING! oops, sorry for the note drift, but after that in your face baby the Bedrock was almost muted and surprisingly bland. The score reflects my appreciation of the quality of the winemaking here as opposed to the varietal shortcoming itself in its ability to develop a more nuanced and stratified midpalate as it ages. Positives were the still bright fruit and slight but zesty spice undertones. Unfortunately the youthful garrigue I so loved in the same wine two years ago was 'gone baby gone.'

After a two hour decant, this wine showed red and black fruit with, potpourri, garrigue and wild herbs. Wonderful depth and the Mike Officer silky touch. Aromatically stimulating. Much softer than the Bedrock iteration. Good juice.

Full bodied. Red fruits and cherries. Well balanced with firm tannins. Coravin the first couple of glasses on day 1 and on day 2 uncorked and let breathe which allowed this to open up nicely. While very approachable, it won't hurt to give this a bit more time either in your cellar or to decant for an hour.

On the nose it’s very nice, black cherry mainly, flavors a bit of a let down as I mainly noticed the vanilla and while it wasn’t overwhelming it did distract from the fruit, a bit tannic as well so perhaps it needs more time.

Gosh - why didn't I wait longer. Great now, I expect this will continue to improve. V - Clear medium ruby with medium meniscus and high viscosity. N - Pine forest in the fall. Raspberry, blueberry, MENTHOL, vanilla, tomato leaf and mint. P - Menthol, raspberry, blueberry, vanilla and baking spices. Full bodied, Med+ acidity and tannins. Long finish with Med+ complexity. Take your time.
Perhaps a bit too early but the new offering was out and this is what I've got - so I needed a taste .....you know how it is. 94 today, maybe better 2-3 yrs from now. Fantastic wine, will be better in the next few years. No hurry. Medium ruby, medium meniscus at this point. Nose is great but still young. Raspberry, vanilla, tomato leaf, blueberry, menthol, depending upon the swirl. Palate is less complex at first (with 60 min decant) but continues to improve through the next few hours. Maybe it's just the vineyard. Ok, maybe not. This is a real zin. Long finish, tannins are present but slight, balanced with the acid, high alcohol that hides itself well.
A nose of bold sweet black cherry and spice, dark garnet in color. A full bodied Zin, with black cherry and smoky peppery flavors on long finish. Always good every year. www.winelx.com
Had this side by side with '16 Turley "Bedrock Vineyard" and the Carlisle was clearly better! The Carlisle is 96% Zin and it's not clear what the Turley blend is made up of but Turley appears to be more 'mixed blacks" then Carlisle. The Carlisle is wonderful.

Opened for 2 hours in bottle.. Nose: blueberry pie, light alcohol, cherry. Aromas improved after about an hour. Palate: raisiny, dark cherry, prominent alcohol, cocoa, hint on menthol. Cross between ripe fruit and earthy tones.
Overall not my favorite bottle of carlisle, but still good. The raisiny notes were hard to move past. My score was 90-91, N likes better 93.
Sexy blushing absolutely gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. Remarkably pretty. Very focused blue to black fruit cone. Lots of fruit salad perfume and very sleek on the palate with some chalky minerals before cooling to the crisp 49’F out here. Drinking the other one this year.
This is an impressively delicious and versatile wine. Had a glass before dinner with aromas and taste of cherry, raspberry with underlying earth tones. Then enjoyed with a rib eye. Wow! The steak brought out flavors of mushroom with a loamy forest floor. Afterwards, paired it with a Roquefort. The saltiness of the cheese gave the wine a refreshingly piney taste added to the flavors above. So happy of I have another bottle.

Impressive.....especially with an hour of air in the glass. This is a classic Cali zin with great dark berry/briary fruit, white pepper/spicebox and just a classic zin ending. Very, very nice, but loses almost everything if you give it too much air. At 5-6 hours it kind of falls apart, losing its fruit and pepper but retaining a bit of its nose. I have the feeling the last bottle a year ago was a bad bottle as it was lifeless on opening where as this bottle didn't hit that point til it was open for 5-7 hours.
Light red and semi-transparent in the glass, its color is reminiscent of a burgundy pinot. Slow on the attack initially but developed typical Zinfandel red raspberry flavors and spice on the finish after a few hours in the decanter. Medium body. Not really an emotional wine for me, it simply checked the boxes.

This is clean, it has a little briar nose, a little pepper/cigar box/clove and black plum after an hour of air. It came out of the bottle completely flat and lifeless on opening. There is only a hint of acidity. This is just flat. It's a point better with an hour of air. The white pepper saves it a bit. I'm not feeling it. I'm sorry to call this bottle as I see it. Interested to see what Mike can do with fruit pulled from MTP’s Bedrock vineyard. 5 spice?, cinnamon, strawberry central, bubblegum?!? On the nose. Just flat out amazing as expected
96% Zinfandel 2% Mourvèdre 2% Mixed Black Varieties (Alicante Bouschet, Petite Sirah, Carignane)Medium to medium-dark garnet-ruby. Whoa Nellie! Talk about an explosive nose! Incredibly potent aromas of cherry, red currant, loamy earth, and a slight suggestion of tobacco leaf and vanilla. On the palate, positively gorgeous! Just the right weight. Just the right texture. The phenolic nature of this wine has been well-managed in this vintage, leading to a long, refreshing finish with well-balanced tannins. I’m looking very forward to enjoying this wine from 2019 through 2027.
