Dark berries, a firm dose of good oak in both the bouquet and on the palate. Full bodied, a firm amount of good sweetness, good acidity and tannin. In its young maturity stage now.

Complex bouquet with dark berries, tar, but also lactic and meaty impressions, very ripe plums and flowers. On the palate medium+ acidity and a large amount of powdery tannin. Concentrated wine with a pleasant touch of sweetness.

Two hour decant, the nose is expressive, with blackberry, plumb and cinnamon. The palate has plenty of structure, leaning into acidity and tannins equally, with a tongue drying, throat tingling backbone keeping the fruit in mind but almost, but not quite, in the background. Medium bodied with a long finish, this has the ability to age for several years and come into a little more balance and develop more depth, great QPR.

Tasted at the Ritz restaurant, London, over dinner to accompany lamb. This is a wine I know and like, so it offered the best opportunity to enjoy a decent wine at a sensible price, bearing in mind The Ritz marks up its wine by about 400% or maybe more. Served at cellar temperature, which was perfect on a fairly warm evening. Opened and poured. Dark plummy colour. The nose and palate showed good dark berry fruits and lots of earthiness. The wine was smooth and it felt to be well balanced overall and as good as I know it can be. Enjoyable and went well with the lamb.

First time trying a pinotage. Very nice wine. Fruity. Easy on the pallet. A little heavy on tannins on the finish. Worked well with a spicy rice and vegetable dish.

Praelum - South Africa: Then and Now (Praelum Wine Bistro): Medium purplish ruby. Pronounced ripe berried aromas, and a bit of paprika spices. Strong flavours of cassis, blueberry, rocket leaves, tea leaves. Fairly acidic and tannic

Clear deep ruby. Clean medium (+) nose of blackberry, mulberry, black pepper, smoke, tar and meat. Dry, medium acid, medium (+) firm ripe tannins, high alcohol, full bodied, with medium (+) flavour intensity of blackberry, damson, pepper, smoke, meat and tar, all with a medium (+) very savoury length.
Very Good. This is certainly the best and most complex Pinotage I have had, and has an element of freshness that so many lower quality bottlings fail to maintain. Having said that, I still find it a challenging variety to enjoy.
Cork.

A delicious South African Pinotage and a varietal I need to further explore. A little on the young side I believe this wine can improve with a little more age. Flavorful blackberries and black cherries, coffee, and pepper.

This wine is clear with no evidence of sediment. It's pale purple in color. The nose is fairly clean, but there is potentially a touch of Brett. The nose is intense with aromas of cherries, a touch of cinnamon, ripe raspberries, and some herbal and floral notes. The wine is bone dry with medium acidity, high tannins, and a full body. The palate is jammy and has more intense fruit than the nose. I taste very ripe strawberries and cherries. The finish is medium. Due to the lack of balance between the nose and the palate, on a scale from faulty to outstanding, I'd judge the quality of this wine to be somewhere between good and very good.

Another great Kanonkop effort here. Nice brightness and acidity. Medium low intensity. Nice dark fruit- prunes, blackberries, blueberries. Good creaminess from the oak- the 25% old oak adds some leather/tobacco to the nose. Drank well with Thai food.

South African wine tour - Day four (Stellenbosch): Black hued fruit core, cream, slightly earthy spice, new oak. Extremely juicy, again black hued fruit married to new oak. Really nice and probably the best Pinotage I've had.

South African Reds (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): 100% Pinotage, dry-farmed, from up to 63 yr old bush vines grown in decomposed granite & Hutton soils; Fermented in open top concrete fermenters @ 28 C; Aged for 18 mos in 225L FR oak barrels (75% new, 25% 2nd fill); 14.6% ABV, 2.7 g/L R.S., 5.7 g/L T.A., & 3.58 pH; 80,000 bottles produced
N: An ATTRACTIVE ripeness, but tough to parse; Intensity lurking!
P: Med body; Rndish entry with NICE, almost swtish frt counterbalanced by an acidity which pretty much defines the wine as it morphs into a LONG, tangy finish with a swtness to the very, VERY fine tannins. DESERVES a yr or so, then drinking for 3 yrs more? My EXC-/EXC. 93 pts Suckling & 91 Vinous. [This vendor's $34.95 puts it in the top quartile of wine-searcher's entries.]
Note: I did NOT notice a RADICAL loss of flavor/intensity in the finish perceived by an EXPERIENCED fellow taster.

Praelum - The Wine King (Praelum Wine Bistro): Has some good weight which balanced with sweet blackberry, and notes of toasted bread and cloves. Pairs well with spicy meats
