Very vibrant nose is chocolate, candieda citrus and tobacco. The palette, however, was a little tired. Not completely gone, but definitely out of balance. Pretty good, but I was a year or two late.

Opened this tonight to celebrate the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Used a bottle neck screener/pourer/stopper into my vinturi into a bulbous handled pour spout pitcher. WOW! What a deep color and nose of dark earthy fruits. Perfectly balanced super Tuscan blend. Other notes and comments said drink by 2011 but this is a GAJA wine! Silky smooth tannins, like a Brunello but this is Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese. I have had the pleasure of trying all of the GAJA wines and for value and quality, CA'MARCANDA PROMIS is a winner, I will now search for more. 2002 and 10 years old! Life is good. Find it, buy it, try it! You will NOT be disappointed!

I am very unsatisfied that it was my last bottle, now I understood how outstanding it was, nose with dark fruits, very long with nice tannins, still well balanced

Interesting to compare with the notes from 2004 from Eric and others, describing things like sour and tannins. Today its a very smooth wine one the edge of holding up heavy food. Smooth soft tannins and a blackberry / dark red fruit nose. The taste is low on tannins and acid but still very balanced. A very nice wine on its last journey but still holding up with its last strenghts.

Another excellent showing (see prior notes). Tonight this wine tasted a little more like a traditional Barolo than at any time in the past. Last one from the vintage and going to miss this one.

Subtle nose and refreshingly no heat for a nice change of pace. I may have burned my mouth slightly on my appetizer and as a result I feel like my taste buds are a little muted. Somewhat lighter than my last bottle and notes of both cherry and wood. Hard to score tonight but this wine usually shines and is at its best with abundant amount of time to open up.

Consistently both a good and surprising bottle. My biggest reaction this time is wet leaves and different than what I have had recently. There is no better way to drink Gaja wines. Wife liked it again.

This is the third time I try this wine over the past 3 years with consistent experience. There is nothing wrong with this wine per se, but it is really not very interesting (and even more so if you take the price into consideration). It does have some nice cherry notes on the palate, but it finishes rather abruptly. I fail to see what have been tried to achieve with this wine and I doubt that it will evolve into something more interesting, but will keep my last bottle at least a year more just to see what will happen.

Much more fruit and more approachable than earlier tasting. Medium bodied, juicy black cherry, blackberry, red raspberry, with hints of oak and vanilla.

Acidity and tannins overwhelm this one. Surprisingly ripe nose for vintage with red cherry, dusty earth and spices. The palate is somewhat thin, but holds a tannin structure that will hopefully round out with some time.

Cherry, charred oak and black cherry. Spicy. A touch of barnyard adds some mid palate complexity. Well balanced. Finish is a little clipped or short. Showed much better in the past.

Very flavorful wine. Not as big as a cab but no lightweight either. This wine doesn't need food can stand all by itself. Very smooth finish with noticeable tannins but not overwhelming. Very nice.

Purple ruby color. Big nose. Nice mouthfeel as well. Slightly metallic on the palate. A nice wine, but I wouldn't want to pay $50 for it. I thought it was rather simple.

A new estate of the famed Gaja family, planted in cab, merlot, and shiraz in Bolgheri. Medium bodied and firm - the dark berry and black cherry fruit is accented tones of vanilla and oak.

[Patsy's, cheese ravioli] Purple in color. On the nose jammy. On the palate initially bright fruit (rasberry and cranberry) followed by dark fruit, on the finish there is oak, tannins, and cherry. I found the wine well integrated despite its youth; ready to drink now; and not in need of any decanting. This is "international" in style. In fact, I could have mistaken this for a Cali Cab. Nevertheless, as with its previous vintages, I truly enjoyed it.

($45) Gaja Tasting with Willi Klinger: Some jam fruit with green pepper, earth, leather. Fairly deeply colored, clearing slightly at the rim. Slightly woody, dry, tight, and firm in the finish. High-toned finish. Needs food. Eh.

Gaja tasting at A Southern Season: Dark ruby in color this wine showed a weak vintage in it's lack of concentration. Lots of oak and toast mix with some cherry and berry. Oak tannins on the finish. 50+10+8+6+6 = 80.

Gaja Tasting hosted by Angelo Gaja (The Peninsula Hotel- Chicago): This wine is made with 55% Merlot (I can't recal the rest of the cepage). A very nice wine albeit on the youthful side. It's tightness and youth were most pronounced on the finish. On the palate, it was an earthy wine with a high glycerin level. Notes of blackberry and leather. 90 points.

This turned out to be meaty and serious.
Nose: More aromatic and youthful then I expected
But mature on the palatte. Yum

poor man's gaja. the 01 is quite a bit "better" because it has a stronger structure/ midpalate. no real complaints, just a plain vanilla wine.

Agree with others; somewhat thin with a short finish. Not unpleasant, just nothing memorable. Will drink the balance sooner rather than later.
