PNP. Lemon rind and flint on the nose. The palate was sharply chiseled but not at all hard in the middle palate, with lovely fruit intensity, green apple and citrus fruit. Surprisingly tight for a 16, if this was served blind I would have guessed the vintage to be 14.
Day 2 update, I saved a pour in the fridge. This is holding up remarkably well. Still flinty on the nose, crisp on the palate with a texture showing pronounced salinity combined with drying acidity.

Served a little on the cold side. But soon warmed up and opened up. Lemon, stone fruits, white florals. No ‘pop’ of sesame this time. Balanced, integrated, harmonious. Really good depth at this level. A small sip the following day held up very well, showing some saline and hint of sesame.

Light gold color. The nose is steely and mineral, with lemon, yellow-green apple and a floral character. The palate is tense yet full, with a touch of oak, with a strong aging potential. Very long finish. Excellent wine, albeit very young.

I’ve been drinking great meursault lately (shocker!) and this coche showed it’s pedigree. But in such a different manner. Bright lip smacking acidiity from the first touch of the palate until the finish. Lemon and lime zest, crushed rock, spring flowers and grass. But not as much salinity as I would expect from a “village” wine. All that said, it was spectacular and I am happy to drink coche whenever I can. Highest recommendation.

Meursault Madness Dinner (Pomeroy - Winnetka IL): Ripe and nearly tropical with some tasters even finding banana notes. Enough structure easily keeps this upright now, but this isn't a vintage to lose in the back of the cellar.

Citrus, crisp apple, minerality and lemon oil. Bottle needed time to open up. Wine was fresh, intense and firm structure. Very long finish. Probably still too young despite 2016 vintage. I drank the residual drops in the bottle next morning, and the acidity would penetrate through my tonsils.

This was a big coche. Lemon lime and tropical fruits with a dollop of buttery oak giving a rich dare I say California chard impression. The wine was drinking very well. Green gold in color and medium body with firm acidity. Very enjoyable with our thanksgiving spread. Well recommended.

Very tight to begin with, emitting just a whiff of petrol like reduction. Time in the decanter unlocks notes of white peach, chamomile and quince paste. It is dense, compact and chalky in the mouth. There’s some almond butter on the back-end and excellent length of flavour. It is still extremely youthful.

Lovely nose, but less exciting on the palate than previous bottles. From a different parcel so quite possibly a bottling from a different cuvee (they make multiple).

After hearing that 16 Coche has improved since tasting it on release popped a bottle to see. It just lacks the character of the father’s wines, less depth and complexity. My view is clearly in the minority among so many label drinkers.

A small gathering of friends - most Burgundy (Reston, Va): Expressive nose displaying succulent yellow fruit, lemon curd, baked apple, a hint of smoke, light mushroom broth, spicy spices and crushed rock. There is no noticeable Coche matchstick. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of succulent yellow fruit, dense and oily, but also very precise and focused, piecing acidity, strong mineral, and a long concentrated dense yellow fruit driven finish with mineral at the end. The concentration, precision and balance are remarkable. Perhaps not the most complex wine, but hedonistic and expressive.

Coche-Dury Meursault 2016. Sexy og sensuell med parfyme og flint. Slank kjølig superb frukt, men ikke uten dybde. Elegant og balansert i sin pure ungdom med en herlig nerve. Lang og stram finish med nydelig mineralitet. Fantastisk syrespill i ettersmaken. Alltid digg! 94p

Decanted and served immediately. Really opened up after an hour or so. Slight reduction initially. Complex. White florals, talc, lemon rind, nuts, umami, mineral. The depth of material is super at this level. Oak is built in and supportive. There’s a mouth-watering salinity on the finish which underlines it’s class. It’s only just reaching it’s drinking window, which may be a decade or more.

Coche-Dury Meursault 2016. Vidunderlig intensitet. Meget vakker på duft med knust stein, fyrstikk, spice i retning anis og safran samt parfyme. Lys i frukten. 94p+

Glistening pale straw gold. Tightly packed with latent energy. Dances on my tongue. Lemon zest and faint hints of burnt butter on the nose. After 2 hours, salivating umami preserved lemons on the taste. Fascinating wine demanding my attention and coaxing.

Drank next to a arnaud ente meursault for comparison. The coche started off the clear winner with more balance poise and just sheer complete aromas and fruit flavours. Clearly the more fatty wine. But the ente eventually caught up and while the coche faded the ente certainly gained more weight with more air and time.

Pompette Salon 酌樂 Series VII: Opened 2 hours before and put in decanter for 1 hour before serving. Very Coche in style with flint, and smoke. Quite powerful and focused with citrus and some pear. Of course it’s a bit too young but would be interesting to see how this will evolve in next 10-20 years!

We drank five 2016 white burgundies, single blind, with the Tucson tasting group. The Coche-Dury Merusault came in second. I've had this wine a number of times, and it's a delicious and expressive version of a vintage that I really like.

MEA Celebration at St. Genevieve (St. Genevieve): Double decanted prior to dinner. Clear gold color. Expressive nose showing a complex blend of fruit, mineral and flint/matchstick. Equally expressive on the palate, showing fresh fruit and mineral on the palate. Quite fresh and expansive. Large scale for sure. And yet, still elegant and balanced. Long finish. A brilliant showing.

St. Genevieve Minneapolis: A few more 2016's arrived this week, so we tried a foursome. Decanted for two hours.

This shared a compelling and varied flight with; a precocious 2016 PYCM CC, a featherweight 2016 Lafon Meursault Charmes and a chiseled minerally 2016 Jacques Carillon Perrieres. This is massive with palate staining layers of; citrus, orchard fruit, stony minerality and spice. This is way more than straight forward solid village Meursault. This was most purely delicious glass of white Burg tonight amongst a table full of delights. The likelihood of my getting to drink Coche Dury anything is so completely remote and this was an awesome treat. Thanks Brad!

Second time I had this wine. The nose of the 2016 is a bit more subdued than earlier vintages. It reminds me of 2010. Built for the long haul and with less popcorn, gunflint and coche perfume at this stage. Starts coming out at warmer temperature and after 1 hour in the decanter. Mouthfeel is fresh, zesty, less buttery than i.e. Lafon. Impeccable balance.
