i have to say that i don't know too much about cabs. this cab drank more like a zin than what i assumed was supposed to be a cab: big, tannins, bold. it was big and bold... but like a hugemongous Zin, as there was so much fruit forward taste. on the nose was fruity... on the palate, it was big, thick, bold... don't recall big tannins at all...but fruity... kind of a good finish... liked it a lot. Pairing with Brisket was good!

I agree with JAXWINE below…. Though it would be a good lesson to blind this wine with my group to show them what chemical mass produced wine taste like. No hate just saying it like it is.
500,000 cases produced annually(2019 )
SIGHT: Surprisingly light in color but a nice ruby with purple overtones and almost no staining.
NOSE: Like my friend said Raspberry toaster strudel and it’s accurate ! Haha This is raspberry jam if I have every smelled it in a wine with of course Cherry and maybe some strawberry jam as well. This is dominated by red jammy/syrupy fruits in the nose followed by cinnamon/clove which makes since for the cooler vintage.
TASTE: The palate is more Dark cherry with Raspberry Jam or Toaster Strudel and that signature Freakshow Spice. However this wine really falls here the acid and tannins are very low makes the wine flabby and boring. Very easy drinking.
OVERALL: This is a crowd pleaser clearly the wine needs to be drank now it’s starting to get a little cardboardy idk fake wine always start to taste like that when they get older to me but this is still holding just drink now. Lastly, Tasted blind they all thought Merlot because tannins and Staining were so low although everyone liked the wine shows it has fulfilled its purpose. I just can’t rate this 88 it lacks the tannins and structure to qualify as Cabernet it is not representative and taste fake to me but people will love it that are not serious about wine.

Very light blackberry aroma. Tastes of blackberry and cherry, starts off a blast of fruit but dimishes quick. Light blackberry finish. Not a favorite, lost a lot since last year's bottle I believe.

Deep purplish ruby, the nose is full of sweet smelling dark fruits. The palate provides an overwhelming taste of prunes. Flabby tannins make one wonder if this actually is a cabernet sauvignon. The medium-short finish is nondescript, with very little beyond the cloying initial tastes. This might be acceptable if it were $8 per bottle – cannot imagine paying close to $20.

Decanted half the bottle and immediately drank. Finished remainder next day. Purple hue with deep intensity. Restrained nose of tobacco and blueberries. Initially got some green pepper, raspberries, and a hint of pencil lead, all underneath some fairly harsh tannins. Evolved into a dominant flavor of tea on day 1. Day 2 fruits became more apparent, primarily cranberries, with much softer tannins.

A really nice Cab... super smooth and nicely balanced, maybe a little hot (what is the alcohol content?) but otherwise just a really nice example of its type. Maybe not super distinctive, but imminently quaffable. If they all tasted this good, I'd develop a drinking problem.
Even better the second night.
I think this wine has several good years ahead of it, no need to drink now but you won't be disappointed if you do.

A friend brought this to a party, and I enjoyed it. Pleasant flavors of plums, blackberries, chocolate, vanilla, and mild oak. A straightforward crowd pleaser.

Medium purple, dark fruits, vanilla on nose. Fruit forward, medium to full body, dark fruits, vanilla, oak light smoke, soft tannins. Basic everday value Cab

Jammy nose shows maple, chocolate, and oak spice. Ripe, full-bodied, dark fruit flavors are backed by a juicy cut and black tea tannin. Good on its own but even better with spicy Indian.

Plenty of bad reviews of this wine over the last few vintages so it's hard to give it a fair hearing. On opening it was a little hot but that disappeared by night two so decanting might help. Plenty of juicy black fruit and some spice. Soft tannins and oak under control. Decent wine for the price and might show better in a blind tasting. Looking at the inventories of this wine for the last four vintages there is about 150 bottles per year in CT so why can't we get a decent number of reviews/ratings?

Aroma is a light black cherry and blackberry. Tastes of cherries, blackberries, and raspberries - sort of refreshing and nice. Light berry finish. Very nice but missing something, fullness? Character?

Michael David Winery makes a very nice Petite Sirah (“Petite Petit”) year after year, but this 2016 Freakshow Cabernet Sauvignon is a big disappointment. Even after decanting and aerating it for 2 hours, it never impressed. To me it comes across like a rough work in progress which, unfortunately, doesn’t have the “stuffing” to ever amount to much in the future. Lodi AVA is known for value cabs that are “fruit forward”, sometimes at the expense of elegance and finesse. This Freakshow cab lacks all of those: tasty fruit, elegance, and finesse. For just a few $/bottle more, you can get the Mettler (or some other Lodi AVA) cab that is far, far superior.

Disjointed and disappointing. Not worth $20 or anywhere near that. If you want quality and value, as can be found in other cabernet sauvignons from the Lodi AVA, spend a few dollars more and get Mettler or something else.

This wine takes time to develop in flavor. Highly recommend airing it. High on tannins but leaves a smooth finish after.
