bottle drunk over a few days. nice and complex nose. palate shows integrated tanins, good balance. approachable now. over the time, the tanins appeared to be more and more integrated; on the third day, they seemed seamless.

Blind tasting Medium ruby. Filtered with rim clearing Aromatics medium. Red cherry, plum followed by rock, leather and earth. No new oak Palate has a medium body. Acid medium +. Tannins medium +, medium grained on the teeth and gums. Alcohol medium. Tart red cherry and chalk. Followed by some herbs. Fruit seems quite fresh. Finish has a medium length. Balanced versus towards the acid. Dry glass notes of barnyard I guessed a 2019 Chianti classico Overall really nice. Seems younger and fresher than a 9 year old Brunello Drink now or can hold as structure and fruit are good.

Light ruby color Medium plus aromas of red fruit with leather/ tobacco and touch of incense with turned earth - very savory Medium bodied with palate of ripe and tart red cherry with herbs and chalk Medium plus acidity and medium plus fairly coarse tannins with medium alcohol Long on the finish led by fruit and tannin This is not a powerful Brunello by any means but so well balanced and delicious - shows that quality winemakers/growers make it work despite the vintage Drinking well now but could hold 5-7 yrs

Black cherries, a little balsamic vinegar, some blackberry too. A little smoke, oak spice and dried herbs. Palate, although a little young, has more of the same, that gorgeous black cherry and lovely acidity is delicious. It has some depth and complexity too. This has 10 years ahead of it and will only improve. What a cracker. Well worth seeking out to #giveanewwineago #burgundynick and only £35.99 @majesticwine and thy have some in @majesticwineharrogate stunning value for a #brunello 90 points

From a tenth (demi). Deep blood red with an amber rim, with high optical density and medium specular reflectivity (no surface scattering here). The nose is quite big, with intense aromatic compounds (light tar) lifting up cherry rolled in tobacco, blueberry, and even peppermint, along with herbal spice and sous bois. Very interesting depth on the nose, very enjoyable and enticing.
On the palate, a rich full body with density and concentration shows, with medium acidity and soft, ripe tannins up front, with some fine grip on the back end. Not quite fully integrated, but not out of balance here, it gives things a spine. Overall, the texture is plush and sappy, with just enough tension around the edges to give a youthful and playful profile. Pretty dynamic in a good way.
Flavours of dark fruits on the attack (cherry, plum, and soft blueberries) that is supported by a floral note and plenty of savoury character going on. Sort of like smoked fruits, but freshened by some spices and roses. the midpalate sees tobacco and spices kick in, with an edgy note of cured leather and crushed leaves and brush. Maintains a high intensity as well. The finish shows a flourish of cherry and spice, with perhaps a twist of green olive and balsamic. Length is very nice, quite lengthy and interesting. Overall intensity is high and complexity is there as well. Lots of flavour evolution here, and just pondering it will bring up more flavours here, giving a great bottle to have fun experiencing.
This is very enjoyable, well made, and reasonably priced BdM. Drinking like a young and flashy pop star at the moment, there is tons to like. Dynamic tension and layers of flavours that ever-change and develop is just a pure pleasure to drink. Not a restrained and elegant wine for the most part, this is an all-out powerful take on things, with flair and an almost calm arrogance. Sometimes that's charming and sometimes that's annoying. Still, well balanced and well made, and likely to mellow out in the cellar. Fun, but definitely leans into flamboyancy, so approach in the right mind set!
The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like raspberry, strawberry and mushroom. The body is medium/full. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

This pours quite classic for Sangiovese. Medium ruby with the faintest touch of bricking at the rim. The nose on the initial pour is quite reduced showing an unappealing sweaty gym sock character. On the second day this was much improved showing a classical nose of fresh cherry, toasted hazelnut, salami, old cedar, rosemary and dry dusty soil. The palate is structured with medium tannin and medium acid along a finish that goes a tad tarry and closes on the impression of cherry pit. Quite a nice effort if left for a day or presumably aged for a few years. So enjoyable the second day it was almost 93.

Much more open and expressive than the 2015 I tasted in December. There is still a touch of varnish, but much more red berry notes and some bright floral characters. Really harmonious and detailed on the nose. The palate opens surprisingly juicy, although there a decent whack of tannin behind it. I am sure this will cellar well for at least another decade, but this is genuinely approachable and enjoyable now with a bit of air.

Medium minus dark red. Hint of cherries and tar on the nose. Clear classic palate- on the light side of the brunello spectre (2014 is a light vintage). Good balance and structure - ready to drink!

Way too young still. Too much tart fruit. The tannins are present, but not rounded to finesse. The leathery bouquet must be in its infancy. More like a top end Chianti rather than a bold Brunello now. But will surely improve over the years.

Double decanted and left 5hrs but a quick sample early on confirmed it is best left a while. Nose of dusty leather and cherry that is replicated on the palate with an additional touch of blood orange Lashings of acidity and grippy tannins, gaining depth when left open and pairing well with fatty red meat but will benefit being left a few more years before revisiting again Drink 2022+

Getting the Band Back Together (Ciao Bella, Mpls): Very dark red color. PNP off the list, drank a glass over 30 minutes. Leather, red fruits, dense, and polished tannins make this surprisingly approachable even on a PNP. 91(+)pts.

This was a last minute buy off the Ciao Bella list when Siggy's red was corked. PNP and drinking quite nicely right out of the shoot with the last lamb pasta course. Showing the balance the reliable balance and character we come to expect from Il Poggione. Tasty and a smart move if you have to open something last minute and start drinking it immediately. 91-92

Potpourri, Chinese cabinet, spiced cherries, tobacco leaves, tight but fine-grain tannin showing this thoroughbred is still very young. The potential is there, just needs time to stretch its legs. Even after 24 hours, it's still shy. This wine is playing hard to get. Gonna lay this down for 3 years at least and see how it warms up. Way too much cold shoulder at this point. 91 points, (lowest since 2011). June 2020

Quite approachable, open, friendly, the lighter vintage speaks, but this is still a very real Brunello with lots of spice, dry character, tobacco and plenty of fruit; this will live, but no problem drinking it now. #no2

Difficult vintage and the Riserva wine will not be made in 2014. Currently slightly unbalanced aromas with slightly wet red berries, perfume and rose petals. Medium bodied wine with surprisingly good mouthfeel. Good freshness and charm. Good tannin structure. Lack details and some richness but the Il Poggione shows that they make good wine regardless of growth conditions. 90 points.
