I opened the bottle and let it breathe for 30 minutes. Cordk looked good. The wine is dark ruby in color, intense as you would expect from Aglianico. Intense nose of tobacco leaves, cherry paste, blackcurrants. Palate is excellent, very balanced, with crispy acidity and medium tannins that are on the refined side. Lots of black fruits and tart cherries, fresh yet dense but not over-extracted - lavender notes, hints of licorice, white pepper, macerated blackberries... leathery notes are starting to emerge - beautiful stuff in there. The ending is medium long - this has body to sell! - with hints of oak to keep it together brilliantly. An excellent Aglianico that will go on for 5-6 years without any issue and likely evolve more. Tertiary flavors are just coming out - so there is no rush. This was 1/6 bottles - so I will try one each year if I can to see how this evolves. 93

Aerated in decanter 1hr. Good red, and black fruit perfumes, with herbs, forest notes, and a touch of black licorice. Med+/Full body, with framing tannins, good length, and medium+ complexity. Best at 90 minutes open. A good show; would be tempted to drink remaining bottles in the short/mid term as there is a lot to offer. recommended
Aroma filled the room as soon as the cork was pulled. Simply wonderful for over an hour, then actually started shutting down a bit. Sadly, this is my last bottle of this vintage. I would love to try this again in 5 years. As it often does, this bottle made me ask "Why don't I have more Taurasi in the cellar?"

Aglianico at its best, i think. Reminds me of my best bottles of 2001 FDSG Serpico that RP had at 98 pts. Smoky, low toned berry nose. Slightly green berry notes with very cool toned, mineral flavors. Plenty of leathery tannins which may be the main downside of this wine. This was very good tonight.

Clear dark garnet. Nose of smoke, black cherry, menthol, and earth. Bright medium palate of strawberry, cherry, spice, and minerals. Excellent length. Bright acidity. Sweet tannins. Opened for 5+ hours. Full dark ruby color. Tightly wound aromas of sandstone, black cherries, violets, leather and cedar. Adds notes of eastern spice on the palate to a full sleight of minerals and floral black cherry and raspberry fruit flavors. Leathery and earthy depth throughout, with subtle espresso notes as it nears the finish. Nice feel and a sharp balanced acidity, firm tannins, and a full juicy finish. Drinks very nicely, but could benefit from further development.

Unique Wines in Arlington (Arlington, VA): ruby and brick colored. the nose shows rhubarb, clove and currants. the palate is fresh and absolutely gorgeous. what a sexy mouthfeel. cigar box, tobacco leaf, coffee grinds and black tea. so rich, but balanced by gritty tannins and a streak of acidity. the finish is spectacular. warren said he double-decanted this overnight, and i was amazed at how young it still was. that said, it came alive in the glass with air and went so well with a mushroom-crusted steak. i didn't make an official guess because i knew this was a unique wine that i have not had much experience. when unveiled, i thought: i need to get more aglianico wines!

Opened Friday, finished Saturday without all that much change. Powerful nose, structured wine of ashy cherry, cedar currant, and light tar. Enjoyable but not destined ever to be more than a small niche in the cellar.

Warm christmas spices, bitter cherry tart, black currant jam - this wine delivers the fruit in a toned down "new world" style (I know, already Livy mentioned Taurasia and the wine made from aglianico back a couple of thousand years). Pleasant velvety body that makes room for well balanced peppery, dusty tannins. You can hold on to this structure.

The Bordeaux of the south. Very well balanced. Comes on full fruit at first, but has a long finish. The tannins are just enough to give you the food readiness, yet it could be a standalone sipping wine as well. Not an easy combination to find. It gets tiring explaining to people the difference between food wine, and wine you sip and enjoy without food. This one does either one very well.

Winebow with Gianfranco D'Aniello and Angela Maculan; 9/11/2008-9/12/2008 (Crow's Nest and Orso): A complete 180 in comparison to the regular '06 Aglianico IGT Campania. A bit reminiscent of a well made Bordeaux. Rich black currants, pain grille, herbs and spices, and blueberry liqueur. The structure is quite a bit firmer, with a rustic earthiness, dusty tannins, pencil lead and cedar. This is rich, multidimensional, complex, and complete. Well balanced. This will age graciously for 20+ years.
