Superb Bechalin and showing more ready than the 2014 I had last year. Red apples, mirabelle plum, mandarin orange, lemon tart, lovely brioche and finishes strong. Cedric Bouchard’s Blanc de Noirs are up there amongst my favourite champagnes out there.

The most perfectly clean expression of pinot noir that I have ever tasted in a Champagne. It showed through. Almost too much for my liking. Some time may add some complexity to this wine, but don't hesitate to drink up if you love the purity of fruit.

Nick's Burgundy evening at 64 Goodge Street: Lovely nose, very Champagne, lots of warm bread and toast vibes. It did not look especially bubbly in the glass yet on the palate this fizzes with incredibly intensity. Takes your breath away! Baked apples, ripe and crisp red apple skin like that first bite, flowers and grass, and then with time in glass a grapey aroma and taste comes to the fore and the fizz has reduced. Really rather exciting stuff, a treat to try. I think this was a 2020 disgorgement.

Nick A's 64 Goodge Street Burgundy Dinner (64 Goodge Street, London): A tad surly on pouring soon there's a charming lime pith and torn croissant character to the nose. Palate is intense and fresh with some hints of raspberry leaf, really nice drop, whilst fully dry the palate is tad sweeter than the nose suggests it will be.

This shows incredibly young and chiseled, but it does so in a pulsating and sparkly fashion, which adds to the allure and complexity of its overall performance. Prickly pear, lemon juice and pith, yellow unripe pear, yellow apple, white flowers, honeydew rind, and chalk. I would’ve initially considered this as a BdB given its higher register profile. So much budding complexity here. Hold for at least another 5++ years ideally. 95-96+ points.
Duck, duck, abortion!; 11/11/2023-11/17/2023: Scent of aromatic white berries with the gentle ripeness of yellow berries. There are also clean straw notes with a gust of fresh air. A field of drying, tall straw on sun baked earth.
Hay and bitter stones on the palate, with light and airy fruits. So fresh, almost young. Light earth on the front and mid palate and awesome effervescence. There is this blend of something like fresh, crisp red apples with tons of white flowers, and a satisfying dusty earthiness.
This kinda makes me wonder how it was younger, not older. This can still go many years but I am curious how much fresher this would have been if tasted a few years earlier. Loved the swiftness this provided.

Great stuff and a perfect balance between grower and big house. Ripe stone fruit, cranberry, mineral, white flower and baked bread. More bubbly than I expected for the producer but in a good way. No rush here as this is a baby with load of acidity.

Pop and pour. Disg 04/2020. Lovely rich BdN. Cranberry, baked apple, richness, but restrained. Soft mousse, which disappeared very quickly. Fantastic acidity, and more baked apple and soft cranberry. Good density and a beautiful long finish. Excellent. Runner up champagne-wise?

Disgorged 04/2020. Yeasty and somewhat dark/quiet, beer-like yet with ample fruit. Interesting combination, should be left to age. 93
Two days later, more concrete and subtle as the hollow spaces are filled with a lot of volume. Sublime bubbles with impactful energy. Citrus if yeasty white fruit lightly creamy without any heaviness, just lifted. Very delicious indeed. 94

An Epic Summer Wine Weekend; 7/1/2022-7/3/2022 (Muskoka, Ontario, Canada): Pours light straw in the glass with notably little effervescence. The nose is very refined and mindful of white burgundy showing cold cream, say spray, flint, white flowers, mint, river stones, vanilla wafer, and a light touch of caramel. The palate is lovely, rich and round showing a vague cherry texture. While I understand there is no dosage or oak on these wines the textural richness is outstanding on this wine, with a finish that lingers very impressively. Really enjoying this!

first bottle Since February. Always absolutely love that first sip of any Bouchard champagne. The rush of perfectly ripe fruit, that deep apple flavor, leading to a perfect and balanced finish. This needs 30 minutes of air to open up at least, but once it does it’s still hitting on all cylinders.

pop and pour the acid is a little strong on the front of the tongue, but it quickly moves to that classic Bouchard/Bechalin super ripe orchard fruit note that carries on for ages. Perfect balance of fruit and richness. 30 minutes in the initial acid pop has calmed down and settled into the usual complementary role it plays. The 2013 still seems to be very approachable and open.

I’ve had a lot of these already, and they consistently throw a note at me I can’t describe, where it tastes of sweet ripe apple with slight a sour-ness (but more sourdough bread than acid) attached. I really enjoy it but can’t describe it well. Either way this continued the string of wonderful bottles.

April 2020 Disgorgement. 100% Pinot Noir. A very pretty wine, bright and energetic yet also soft and more on the mineral side than the richness that usually comes with blanc de noirs. This is Pas Dose but does not feel as such and it has a very round profile and very elegant. Super Solid 92-93

Day 1: popped and poured. It followed a Ulysse Collin and suffered from a lack of richness by comparison. Day 7: Aromas of citrus, honey, flowers, and a hint of nuts. Similar flavors. Medium body. Lots of energy, without the harsh youthful exuberance. Moderate+ complexity/finish. Very enjoyable now. Lots of upside. I will wait until 2030 before I try again. 92-96.

Cédric Bouchard Roses de Jeanne Côte de Béchalin 2013
Location Aube, Côte des bar Domain 3.5 ha 100% Pinot noir Deg april 2020 Dosage none

Very clear. Beautiful pale straw or watered down ginger ale. Persistent small bead effervescence that quickly decreases.
Bouquet comes out of the glass and is intense even 10 inches away immediately after opening. Buttered toast, croissants, flint, yeast, lemon, vanilla, sprite, vegetal lentils. Butterscotch and grilled tropical fruits take over after a couple hours decanted as the reductive notes fade.
Body is a flood of complexity. Minerality with strong and clean acidity bolsters lemon curd, berries, tangy yogurt, white pepper, Fresca bubbles in the mouth. Reduction burns away after time open and the palate rounds out nicely with flat ginger ale and more tropical fruit.
Hard to believe this is BdN in the best possible way. Almost too many flavors to keep track of as it overwhelms the palate. The first sip is bafflingly complex but time and increased temperature focus the singularity of the terroir and manifests flavors and aromas with incredible clarity. This has a sense of place more akin to the climats of Chablis than typical Champagne.
Cedric Bouchard Cote de Bechalin 2013. Vakker, ren og elegant nese. Sitrus, mengder kalk/kritt, noen florale toner og grønne epler. Ungt og fresht. Nydelig mousse. Her leverer Cedric virkelig. 93p+

🍾V13 Roses de Jeanne (Base 2013 Disgorged Apr 2020) Pale gold. Aggressive fine bubbles(!). Nose of intense fresh apple juice, apricot, chalky, hint of honey and walnut, some toasty bready autolytic notes, minerally. Great acidity cut, excellent mid palate concentration and focus. Rippling lengthy finish. Good density and definition.

Love Cedric Bouchard. Such singular wines. Always single vintage, single variety and single vineyard. Bechalin is aged 3 years in the lees, no dosage and only 150 cases are made. The wine is so Burgundian and the bubbles are super fine. Such lovely purity, elegance with a simultaneous intensity. Long finish. Always drink out of Zalto Bordeaux or Grassl Cru. So good ✨✨

Nice fresh nose: raspberry, white peach, honey, lemon
For all the acidic aromas the palate is incredibly soft, almost pillowy, characterized by very fine bubbles. Lovely, honeyed richness without weight. Some fleshy red apple, raspberry not as red-fruit forward as I had assumed.

Thanksgiving week in Piemonte; 11/22/2019-11/30/2019 (Milan, Barolo, Alba, Barbaresco): From the wine list at Campamac (Barbaresco). Another meal another bottle of bubbles. Always enjoy Cedric Bourchard's champagne and this was a big step up from the Guillaume Selosee we had at dinner the prior night. The nose has hints of toast, on the palate red fruited with that zippy acidity. Bubbles are active but small and fine. Tastes best as it warms in the glass and reveals more of the underlying vinous quality.

Piedmont II - better and learnings; 11/23/2019-11/29/2019 (Barolo, Alba, others): Off the wine list at a restaurant in Barbaresco. Sometimes it is nice to get a bit of bubbles as well given all of the reds that we are drinking. This started quite tight. Tons of bubbles. Surprised me a bit. I'm not sure we ever got to a totally open version of the wine, but it was nice and a bit interesting which is always fun.

Borderline still wine but still beautiful effervescence. White flowers, pear, raspberry, and mineral. Truthfully it went down too quickly for real notes. Always delicious stuff.

Recent release. Lots of the characteristics of most Bouchard wines in depth of flavor, evolution over the tongue and finish. Another fine effort.
