Last tasted Aug. 2020; our last bottle. Showing its age, with slight prune notes in the aroma and flavors. Full-bodied, with a coarse texture, typical of Mollydooker, thick and chewy, still dark and opaque. Prominent aromas of Aussie shiraz. Time to drink up. Ric

It’s true my preferences have evolved since I bought this one, but even so, I think I just waited too long to open this final bottle. It was nice, with fruit a bit muted, on open. (I prefer that now to the fruit bomb this was in its youth, so no issue.) Unfortunately the fruit further faded with some air, and it’s the heat on the back end that dominates as I sip it after dinner. I’m feeling a lot less guilty that I poured a half cup of this into the steak-topping mushroom sauce rather than open something cheaper (it did work great in the sauce!)

Popped and aerated in a decanter over about an hour. Drank with homemade chili, and it barely stood up. Surprising for a big Aussie shiraz. Notes of prune, blackberry and blueberries on the nose. Tannins are softening. Still very chewy like a typical Mollydooker, just muted. Finish is not nearly as long as this wine had 5 years ago. Overall, recommend finishing up this vintage soon, as it's nearing it's end.

Clear dark purple in colour. Notes of Raspberry, raspberry and raspberry. Dry, med acidity, a big bodied wine, smooth tannin. Can't believe how big this wine is even after 14 years. This wine is truly a wine that has no middle ground. You either love this style of wine or do not like it. Drank as a port, it is interesting. But as a wine with dinner, unless you are eating ribs, it is not great. I used to like this type of wine in past, but now find it just too much.

Dark garnet-purple, still opaque, with hints of brown at the edges. Powerful but typical shiraz aromas of deep black fruits, smoky oak. Very viscous. Still very concentrated fruit, power over elegance or complexity, hasn't moved much since it was young. High alcohol, hot and long finish. Good for a glass or two but then becomes over the top. I don't think it will evolve much further, so best to drink over the next few years. Ric

Nothing stands out here. Middle of the road wine without much nuance. I last tried this 8-9 years ago, and it continues to feel young/brooding. My guess is this will never evolve into something that is complex.

This Aussie Cab blend is drinking perfectly right now. Super, silky smooth tannins integrate with soft blackberry fruit with hints of vanilla, mocha and chocolate. Doesn’t need much time to open up and express itself. Sadly, this is my last bottle.

Screw cap , 66% Shiraz / 34% Cab Sauv, 16% Alc. Decanted and poured and frankly the wine change very little over the hour we had it. Dark color, rich ripe and juicy but also enjoyable in its style and we felt the cab Sauv albeit not that noticeable tames the Shiraz and keeps it honest vs spice and that usual new world sweetness. Better with rich food or well aged meat. What we found facinating is that at age 12 this was very much on the money and shows capacity to age and easily has another 10 yrs in the tank. Good wine albeit the rich and ripe side of it makes it a bit one dimensional. 90-91 but we could see how this could be rated more by people who like the style.

Bold wine, lots of fruit but balanced with a very well integrated acidity. This ages much better than its siblings (with the exception of the Velvet glove).

Stewed cherries and plum nose, with blackberry lurking. Oak comes through on the palate, with a lot of christmas cake spice and slight medicinal undertones, and earth and coffee. Very soft mouthfeel, and a lot of alcohol. An exceedingly fleshy and jammy wine. Lacks length I would expect from a bottle at this price. Full bodied, as to be expected. This wine is big, simple and uncouth and there is far too much alcohol for my tastes. Some may like this style but I certainly did not enjoy this, and would have been disappointed to have paid full price for it. Drink now, I can't see it improving or changing from here.

My second bottle of this. Shiraz and cabernet complimenting each other well, with cassis and dark fruits on the palate with spices and some oak vanilla notes. Long finish, well integrated tannins - the smooth taste belies the 16% alcohol. No heat detected at all. Yummy.

Francesca's birthday party at Equarius Hotel. Pop and poured. Scew-cap. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Long legs. Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of vanilla, spices, licorice, cassis, pencil lead, sweet black plums, blueberries, blackberry jam. Developing. On the palate, dry, medium acidity, high alcohol (16%), very fine medium+ integrated tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of vanilla, spice, licorice, cassis, lead, sweet black plums, blueberries, blackberry jam. Long finish. Very good quality. A much better showing than the last time I had it one year ago. Feels a bit more balanced, despite the alcohol heat. Yes, this is unapologetically a big jammy Aussie Shiraz-Cab blend. But the sweet fruits and smooth mouth-feel just keep luring your lips back for another sip. Despite my palate desire for elegance nowadays, I still found myself enjoying this. Could still develop more over the next 4-5 years.

A lot, a little more and then some. These words say pretty much everything there is to say about the Enchanted Path. The wine has integrated nicely since my last tasting. The initial attack of Syrah fruit is slightly toned down and tonight it is possible to notice the 34 percent Cabernet as a slight whiff of wet stone and led pencil. But the fruit is still ripe and could be described as "primary" despite the bottle age. The palate full and lush. Surely a hate it or love it wine. I am still of the latter opinion.

The wine is entering peak and has melded together into a dark fruit melange with a strong backbone of aged pipe tobacco. It is much, much more supple and sexy than when it was released. I had one bottle in '08 or '09 right after release and it tasted like a mixed berry jam that had been scraped off a railroad tie. It was a beast of intense, immature flavor. I cannot tell you how spectacular this wine is drinking right now. I just got off another site where I bought the remaining 4 bottles that they, incredibly, still had in stock. The gentleman's review before mine (that I read after I posted) is spot on with my review. This is good wine, folks, deserving of a score way north of a 90. If you are lucky enough to have some start putting it on your list of wines to drink with other wine addicts.

This wine has softened considerably since it was released, when it was super-concentrated and angular. It has now reached its plateau, still very dark and opaque, but with a powerful silkiness from all the components blending nicely. The nose is typical shiraz...earthy, dark fruits, and the flavors are mouth-coating but well-integrated and not over-the-top. Delightful full-bodied wine, very ready to drink, but should easily last several years. Ric

Decanted for an hour. There is a lot of alcohol and dark fruit on the nose. This wine does not disguise its 16% ABV; it is very fruit and alcohol forward. It is bold and tasty, but not multidimensional. The finish has some spice similar to the digestive in an Indian restaurant (candied anise and fennel). The tannins at the end suggest this wine may be better in 5 years.

A smooth silky beast! It's not tannic, but you do sense the alcohol which gives it a full body. Spicy red and blue fruit. Long finish of black cherry, hints of cola , and spice. If it were a woman, it would be a "Whole Lotta Rosie!" Enjoy this one now with big, bold food.

Friday late night drinks at Davyd's place. Tasted blind. Drank after 1 hour in the decanter. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, inky dark ruby colour. Long legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with alcoholic fumes, and aromas of sweet corn, toasted oak, vanilla, blueberries, blackcurrant, and green chillis. Developing. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, very high alcohol (16%), soft satin-like medium+ tannins, full body. Pronounced flavor intensity, with flavours of heavily extracted fruit - blueberries, blackcurrant, dark plums, blackberries, with vanilla, toasted oak, licorice, and green chilli. Long finish. Very good quality wine but I feel that it is still pretty unbalanced, considering the alcohol and intensity of the fruit. Commendable smooth mouth-feel though, almost thought I was drinking a Merlot at first, before the Cabernet character started showing through after time in the decanter. Will be interesting to see how this evolves over the next 5 years.

As expected with ful bodied ripe black plums and purple currants with luscious dark chocolate and mocha oak with cherry ripe candy. Sweet but didn't feel ott on the alc. The wine did get better a few dad later with rounder black satsuma plums and toasty oak.

This has turned into a competent, reasonable wine with good fruit and good structure but not a whole lot of other interest. It is well made, the tannins are well integrated and the shiraz boosts the fruit. It is more restrained than I remember - not a bad thing

The big fruit is definitely out front. However happy to be able to experience the Cab. Based on recent MD experience I approached this bottle expecting an overpriced bottle of fruit juice. Glad to be pleasantly surprised for a change w/ MD. Still it is pricey for the final product.

While my past reviews on this and other MD's have praised the blueberry/dark berry hedonism and complain about the high heat of alcohol, this one was consumed with a wine club friend at a Brazilian/Portuguese place and from PnP to the last sip it was drop -dead gorgeous! It needed some air in the beginning, but the incredible nose had toned down to hedonistic light/sophistication lite and the great fruit was also on a slimmer scale with a great structure and some cigar box and some eucalyptus mixing in. While I have said in the past that I treat MD's like "port" as I thought they could crush a bloody steak, but this was consumed with a great mixed seafood/meat meal and was PERFECT!

I have tasted this effort twice before and both times I have used the word "crazy" in the tasting note. Tonight, the 2006 Enchanted Path is still a wine which could have been made by no one else than Sarah and Sparky Marquis. But it has integrated and the initial attack of ample Syrah fruit is slightly toned down. It is actually possible to notice the 34 percent Cabernet as a slight whiff from a led pencil. But do not mistaken, the fruit is still ripe, the palate full and lush and to use a new expression: an "eyebrow raiser". A hate it or love it wine. I tend to be of the latter opinion. (score is a good 92)

This is the drastic , intense flavor that I crave. Incredibly smooth and rich. I know I am in the minority about this style, but this is the type of wine that defines me as a wine drinker. I have always wondered about the word hedonistic that other use and I know it is different for everyone, but I have finally found a wine that I feel deserves the label and yes I was sober and if others need to describe me as a cola addict I guess I'll just have to live with it

Seemed to peak around the 5-6 hour mark in the decanter. Dense purple robe, 95% opaque and clear, creepy legs along with the usual tablespoon of MD sediment. Dark pepper, cooking grease, boysenberry, a bit of cherry, and floral perfume to the nose. Luscious, but not as syrupy as Boxer, Scooter, and lower price MD's. High heat and some overdone oak but the concentrated fruit is held up with real acidity and tannin, making me refrain from declaring it your typical fruit-bomb. Thought there were also some undesirable edges mid-palate, but it corrected and smoothed out well on the finish. Probably some upside in holding, but not much. 5+11+16+7 = 89

Despote the 16% alcohol, the heat was manageable and the wine showed a fair bit of structure. Nothing terribly unique in the winemaking for a mid-decade A. Shiraz: dark chocolate covered bing cherries, sweet oak, and some of the dark berry jam from the first bottle over two years ago still lingers. Aging has not served this wine as well as expected. Still a good wine but a four point decking in the rating (at least).

Poured off a few ounces, MD shake (until foam), vinturi aerate to decanter. Color deep red with lots of purple hues, full body. Initial bouquet is generous with sweet dark cherries, chocolate, blueberries, baking spice, vanilla, and some alcohol peeking through. On the tongue it's chocolate covered cherries for days complete with gooey cordial center, sweet spice, a little vanillin oak underneath, and warming heat coming through significantly in the finish. Trademark velvety smooth on the palate, medium-low acid, some well-integrated smooth tannins from the cabernet giving it structure and helping to pull it back from OTT land. Fruit is super delicious (if you like this flavor and its richness) and shows its concentration in a long finish of 40+ seconds trailing into a sort of maple aftertaste. Early on, out of balance with the 16 abv, giving it some Nyquil feel if taking drinks in close succession. Coming back to a 2nd glass after 2.5 hrs, spouse commented it had become more interesting and complex, with aromas of tar, flowers, earth, and even traces of meat. On the palate sweet dark cherries and berries are layered with earth, chocolate, and spices, and tasting more earth and dark chocolate in the finish that is quite nice. Overall, very enjoyable, especially later on. Thankful I opened it now, but it can stretch a few more years depending on what you like. This urges me to open the '05 COL. Delivers fairly well for its premium price of 75.

Twisted and poured, probably lasted 2 hours in our house. Blackberry, raspberry, some pepper, oak, plum, and vanilla. Definitely big, fruit forward. Reminds me of huge Turley or Loring or El Nido. Not for the AFWE.

The 2006 Enchanted Path has really settled down since last year. It is of course still an over the top fruit bomb, but yet a little less obtrusive... The nose is pure blueberry, vanilla fudge and whipped cream with milk chocolate added. The palate is full and lush with a finish lasting some 50 seconds. The craziness is gone, remaining is a delicious Aussie fruit attack... Not for the faint hearted but lovely after dinner to some chocolate cake.

Though still young, but couldn't resist trying this... You can't go wrong here with this wine... Immediately on the mouth a burst of dark berries silky and smooth... This is such a well made wine you want another taste ... Mid-palate with hints of spice....long legs run down the glass streaming like a slow rain... Finish is long and leaves you wanting more.. Careful.. This high end wine will be gone in no time... Cheers to Sparky and Sarah Marquis !!!

Dark ruby red in color with light sediment in the bottle. *This wine has a very strong smell of pungent, foul, roasted red cherries. The smell is so strong that it overwhelmes the taste and finish. I decanted for two hours and the smell really did not improve much at all. I don't believe this was a flawed bottle. I like Aussie Shiraz alot, but this was just overdone. I really didn't mind the higher alcohol content as I'm rarely bothered by a little heat. IMHO other Mollydooker's are much better than this Shiraz/Cab blend. Dumped the 2nd half of the bottle down the drain, not good.

I performed the Mollydooker shake, ran the wine through a vinturi, and decanted for 30 min. This blew off the iinitial overdone sour cherry and heat nose to reveal a nose of creamy cherry pie, cotton candy, cinnamon, and some port-like raisin. There is a significant amount of heat on the nose, but it's tolerable. The flavor profile is pure cherry pie with some blueberry overtones. The finish is a little racy with some clove and lasts about 30 seconds. This is a good wine, but doesn't have the great factor that the '05 Enchanted Path had when it was young. I should have drank this the day I got it. The upper-tier Mollydooker wines, in my experience, are much better young. They're made to be drunk out of the barrel, not aged.

The Cab gives it backbone and a blueberry and earth feel. The Shiraz is predominant and there is little tannin left, and the fruit is starting to decline. I have a fair amount of this, and it is a disappointment. I had high hopes. Probably has another five years left at most, and it is as good as it going to get now.

(B+) Hugely alcoholic and chewy. It's fruity all right, but hard to find much to give it support. It is simply too big and too alcoholic to justify it prestige and it's price. Enjoyable nevertheless. Just don't try to drink anything else next to it, as you won't taste it. Taste-bud blaster for sure.

Decanted 2 hours and this was its usual high impact blueberry and dark cherry wine, but it is settling down as it ages. It showed a little more of the cab influence than past bottles and added a little more complexity and detail in the process. I still don't know if I'd pair with food, but a big bloody steak is starting to look like a possibility.

This is pure craziness in a bottle. No one makes wines like Sarah and Sparky Marquis. The nose reveals fruits like sun dried strawberries and blueberries, but also old saddle leather and smoked creamy vanilla. Palate is lush and sumptuous again revealing fruit and an almost glycerin like sense. You almost have to cut the wine out of the bottle... I think the wine is starting to show some maturity, but it will definitely benefit from a few more years in the cellar. I do not understand the necessity of the Cabernet part in this blend. To me it adds nothing. The Mollydooker Shiraz wines are better or just as good.

Really dark color. Nice nose, dark fruit predominant. Some blackberry and blueberry, with a transition of some milk chocolate and creaminess, cedar on the back end with firm tannins. Gave it a 91. After 24 hours, got really nicely integrated, and went perfectly with roast beef with gravy and garlic mashed potatoes. Worth another point, changed score to 92

Smooth and careful nose of dark fruit, oak and some pepper flavours. A little bit closed. The palate nicely balanced - allthough the huge alcohol, it still seemed balanced because of the tannins. Still too young - if I had more of these I would wait at least 5 years.

One of my favorite wines, a bit on the pricey side, you can find them for around $65 or so and this puts it in some strong competition at that price, but the wine is huge syrah from down under with the mouth-feel that only Mollydooker delivers, great balance of fruit and tannins, never disappointing.

Big bouquet that hits you immediately upon opening - dark berry jam. THe finish is all shiraz driven fruit. Good structure to the wine but it doesn't benefit from the Cabernet blend. It is reminiscent of MANY top class Australian shiraz wines. I would let it age at least another two years before drinking more.

WOW! After about 1.5 hours of decanting, we dipped into this one. Unbelievable velvety fruit (blue and black berries) incredible mouthfeel and mderate heat on the finish that went away with more time. Decanted for 3-4 hours. What to say about this wine? This is one the wine cool kids love to hate, but I have to admit it was good. The nose and flavors were very interesting. I felt like I was in a bakery with lots of dough, baked goods and sugar notes. It had a great mouthfeel and was actually smooth. The biggest negative was some heat at the finish that did subside after a few tastes.

Very dark, dusty purple. Huge nose of cherry/blueberry syrup, black pepper. Very pretty and attractive, but also one-dimensional to me. Huge body, well-integrated tannins, average acidity. Very easy to find the Cabernet influence that lends more backbone and leather to the sweet syrah. This does not reach fruit-bomb status imb, which is nice from MD. Really, really tasty and great balance but not very complex. Finish has great harmony but is shorter than I want, considering the wonderful flavor that came before. Took out to dinner and matched with a Tuscan rib-eye and filet mignon stroganoff - superb! (4+13+18+6) = 91

Popped and "shook", sat for 1/2 hour in bottle. Drank with grilled lamb lollipops, baked potatoes and asperagus. No matter what it was washing down or if it was drunk by itself, it had a slightly bitter finish. It might have gone away with more open time or a decant, we'll see tomorrow.

Very nice. Full bodied, and typically bodacious, this was also more structured, and due to the cab influence, I think, a heavier wine than the COL. Finish was long, and the wine continued to improve and evolve over the two hours we drank it. Will improve, I think.

Pebble Beach Food and Wine; 3/27/2008-3/30/2008 (Pebble Beach Resort, CA): Dark fruit on the nose with some eucalyptus. Blind. 95;86. Very dark center, thick, coating the glass. N. Excellent with spicy, powdery, roasted fruit, violets, anise and dark smoke. MF is syrupy but still fresh. Very good balance but not very tannic. Palate is lively, spicy with rich flavors but still fresh. Good intensity on the finnish. Aftertaste is massive and coating and long. Black pepper, anise, cakebatter and cherries with a touch of citrus. When it gets too warm it gets a bit boozy on the end and tastes of wiskey.

Mollydooker Tasting (The Cannery - Newport Beach, CA): Although not a poor wine by any means, I think this wine suffers in terms of value. A blend of Shiraz and Cabernet. Interesting (and slightly perplexing) nose of rhubarb, plum, and mint. Black fruits and hard spices on the palate. Nice texture and finish, but ultimately, not a very interesting wine to me. The 2006 Two Left Feet is similar wine at a better price.

Starting to show its age, with slight prune notes in the aroma and flavors. Full-bodied, with a coarse texture, typical of Mollydooker, thick and chewy, still dark and opaque. Prominent aromas of Aussie shiraz. Very nice with ribs, but time to drink up.

Very interesting and dynamic wine. For this price range ($60) its hard to find a wine that offers this kind of fruit and finish.

Dark inky purple color - full bodied, aromatic, thick chewy ripe black fruits, ripe plum, raisin - finely integrated silky tannins on the long finish. A hint of the cabernet structure and backbone is apparent with a subtle earthy undercurrent.

Big, big red....loads of structure and good balance but the high alcohol evident. A little brash and young but good nevertheless.

Wine-Buddies Shiraz evening hosted by Mati (Wine-Bar, Nahalat Binyamin, TLV): dark color, classic McLaren Vale Shiraz aroma, rich and elegant. Full-bodied, structured, rich and satisfying. A great ending to a Shiraz/Syrah evening.

Smooth and careful nose of dark fruit, oak and some pepper flavours. A little bit closed. The palate nicely balanced - allthough the huge alcohol, it still seemed balanced because of the tannins. Still too young - if I had more of these I would wait at least 5 years.

Popped and decanted and swirled in the decanter then let sit for over an hour. Surprise, surprise, this is getting some complexity and finesse and is actually not just a beat your tastebuds to death bottle of shiraz blend. It was a hit with all who tasted it.

Silky smooth and delicious with great dark fruit flavors, toasty oak, and well integrated tannins makes this a great experience. I drank it with Spanish cuisine, which was rich and hearty with great sauces. The wine went extremely well with dinner, and justified its somewhat high price.

This was a highly enjoyable wine. Big Cherry start on the nose with strawberry and fresh red berry fruit flavors. The shiraz dominates this wine with the cab giving it more structure. A nice med to long finish huge fruit bomb over the top. Old world people stay away from this wine.

WOW! After about 1.5 hours of decanting, we dipped into this one. Unbelievable velvety fruit (blue and black berries) incredible mouthfeel and mderate heat on the finish that went away with more time. Not as complex as I'd hoped at this price point, but overall the big hit of a multi bottle/style tasting.

Refined palate with firm tannins and fruit forward-- curranrt in addition to plum, and blackberry. Long finish adding flint and leather. Not as approached as Carnival of Love at this point, but still very complex and interesting.

Blind.

Mollydooker 2006 tasting: Black color. Delicious nose of creamy black currant, blue berries, black berries and licorise. On the palate it offers blueberries, licorise and chocolate. Refined midpalate, intense violent tannins, great balance. Has it all, and is at the same time extremely velvety and smooth on the palate. Super long taste. Very nice.
