The bouquet is still locked. On the palate the wine is still reticent as well; there is good acidity and tannin, dark chocolate, some pleasant bitterness and a good length. I guess this wine will reach its young maturity stage around 2030. 93+
Bill & Crew - Offline #3 - One Penny Red: Blind. Musk, herbs, apricot and floral notes. Quite pretty aromatic lift. Lifted and pure on the palate as well, fine tannins with some sweetness but well controlled. Very young but lots to like.

I'm not a big fan of this 2018 vintage in NSW in general. It tastes somewhat disjointed compared to the '19 and '17, with the ripeness of the fruit pushing forward a bit too much. The wine is nice to drink, there is some acidity, there are some strong tannins here, but I find that the two mentioned vintages cannot compare with this.

Clonakilla Zoom tasting with Tim Kirk. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of dark olives tapenade, warm moist earth, blackberries, black cherries, black pepper spice. Developing. On the palate, dry, juicy high acidity, medium+ alcohol, smooth medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet spices, fresh black pepper, black licorice, blackberries, black cherries, dark plums, dark olives + warm moist earth in the background. Very long finish. Very very good quality. Lots of life ahead.

decanted - fragrant and aromatic nose, floral, apricots, black pepper, with time, mint and red fruits became more apparent, plush, black fruits, blackberries, peppery with alcohol warmth, tannins grip in mid palate but well integrated, flavours keep building, silky finish.

Dark berries, cherries and plums on the nose. Cool mint on the palate, primary fruit, with mild spicy undertones (just a touch of Szechuan pepper?). Hints of tobacco and chocolate, particularly on the finish. Beautifully balanced at the moment.

Canberra districts whistlestop tour; 8/14/2020-8/15/2020 (Canberra Districts): Dusty (slightly dirty glass), jubey whole berry, blackberry over peppery spice though having said that this is probably the ripest vintage of this wine I've had and it is also the most polished. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, massive, chalky, drying tannins close down the palate, ripe black fruit struggles beneath this onslaught. Hmm.

Spice, pepper, tinge of violets, dark-red berries notes rose almost immediately from the glass. An impressive opening, and what followed on the palate definitely matched up to the nose - powerful, intense, pure and elegant at the same time, with more spices to boot. Already delicious, this will no doubt get better with cellar time!

Lots of viogner. Apricots but with big red berries. Needs more time.
