  • Amazing bottle. From comments there is high bottle variability. Drank like an aged amarone- we had grilled lamb chops. Was ready to go immediately but opened over the course of the meal with a bit of time

  • I may have gotten lucky, but this bottle held up well. Chocolate, leather, ash, strawberry, tobacco and fig all came through. Actually may have let it open up a bit too long (3.5 hrs) where 2 probably would have done it.

  • I couldn’t tell if this was corked or just too old and funky. It was drinkable but not very good, although there was something delicious underneath it all, but it wasn’t coming through.

  • One foot and two arms in the grave. First bottle was Dead On Arrival. Fruit long gone. This was from an auction at The Chicago Wine Company. I wish it was alone....too many from this auction were DOA. Color on the first bottle was the brown look of death. Second bottle was better, but still a walking zombie. almost a Tawny Port color and smell. Although the second was (barely) drinkable, I would encourage all to drink what they may still have. Very disappointing.

  • Lots of earth and very well structured. Got better with every sip, needed 3+ hours to break out of its shell but well worth the wait.

  • very restrained. Holding well. wasn't blown away this time but drank really well. Deeper fruits but quite a bit of secondary now. Herbal. Some dryness / tannins still

  • Another old world style in really good shape
initial age on the nose replaced by powerful integrated fruit
Went so well with the early black truffle courses at Vie
By the end there was some pepper on the palate too
    Lucky to have another bottle

  • No formal notes. Great wine. Wish I had more.

  • Dinner with Steve & Barb at Gravy. Surprisingly no decanting needed as this was rearing to go from the moment the cork was removed. Full bodied with beautiful floral aspects. Extremely fragrant. Long on the finish. 50+13+13+9+9=94

  • Opened two hours before drinking, this was great right out of the gate and continued to improve throughout the night. Extremely savory and herbaceous, exhibiting the classic Quintarelli profile of baked red fruits, spices, vanilla, and tobacco. Great structure, balance, and tension throughout. An absolutely delicious bottle of wine, superior to the 2000 I had a few months ago. Could it improve with additional time in the bottle? Maybe, but why risk it? Rated 3 on a scale of -1 to 3.

  • Just wonderful. Wine was singing out of bottle. Almost burgh profile with herbal notes, sweet tobacco, fig and raisins.

  • Tasting at Cellar 13 (Cellar 13): Really solid and showing well, kind of sweet and out of place amongst the Burgs even though I wanted to see how this stood up against them, very ripe, no VA, leather, red fruit, almost too weight in the midpalate leads me to think that this needs 10 more years, this will definitely deserve a higher score with some more time.

  • nose: very pungent from the get go, but with shifting aromas of dark red cherries, raisins, leather tones, liqueur, some cigar ash and dark chocolate. Excellent depth, though it is on the tight side as well right now.

taste: Full bodied with very good tannins still. There is a very nice feel underneath along with richer tones of leather, dark red cherries, dark chocolate and some liqueur tones as well.

overall: This was a really damn good bottle of wine. Still very young and it does need some smoothing out on the edges. Balanced on both the nose and palate, this was given about 2 1/2 hours of air.

  • DAMN THIS IS AMAZING. seriously I am in love! Classic profile; port-raisin [though not raisiny by any stretch] with spice, white truffle, brown sugar, shitake mushroom, currant, coriander, aged tobacco....gosh I really might sit here for hours and talk about the amazingness that is this wine. Medium plus body in a silky sexy elegant way. Alcohol [at least with our bottle] diminished enough to release the fruit/spice body after about an hour. The alcohol by all means held true, no question and for 15% it was not hot nor cloying. 60 second plus finish. I think I am blushing right now from how attracted I am to this wine. All I can see is sophia loren circa 1970's in silk on the riviera when I drink this! Damn fine juice. Sophia where art thou??!?!?!!?

  • Tasted this wine at a wine tasting. Cherrie and vanilla on the nose with some barnyard. Flavors of cherrie and dark fruit with a slight sweetness on the finish. Very smooth medium bodied. A true masterpiece. Giuseppe Quintarelli is a true master of wine making. Quintarelli will hold a vintage for a decade prior to release and it shows in the quality of his wines.

  • Soft round, beautiful nose. Baking spice, some ripasso notes, pine, leather, cherry, and clove. Full bodied but not heavy. Extremely well balanced with a lovely level Freshness, focus, depth , and great clarity. Almost a mint- clove aromatic (in an organic chemistry sense) very long finish. Eclectic and delicious. In a great place right now. 93 pts.

  • Pretty yummy stuff. A very nice interplace of sour cherry with raisin and chocolate. Quite suave and supple.

  • Quintarelli Tasting (San Francisco Wine Trading Company): From the notes, this is made with the same varietals as the Valpo, but picked later, and with a higher percentage of the juice treated to ripasso. Dark ruby color, and a fruitier nose than the 99 Valpo, with rich, sour cherry and lots of estery fruit perfume, but overall much tighter. Darker fruit profile on the palate, slightly muted, but clearly stacked with dry extract. Flavors of sweet cherry, chocolate, tobacco, almost gritty from the concentration. Unresolved tannins, and showing a little heat on the finish. Good potential here, but needs time. $75 regular price.
