Nose: spices, black fruits, licorice, cinnamon, dark chocolate Notes: 13.5% ABV. Still very oak dominant at this moment. I've had plenty of Gibourg Mugneret by this time and I find this Domaine very difficult to open up and probably is a tad heavy in terms of winemaking. The heat in 2018 combined with the winemaking creates a disaster. This is quite unbalanced and simply too heavy, I don't mean this in a bad way but it probably will turn out sounding very bad but this is like a pinot from Napa. This might or might not gain the right amount of complexity and profile even with enough time, I remain skeptical but for the benefit of doubt I would suggest to approach this wine only after 2030. Drink: 2030+ Rating: 85

I gotta say this one surprised me. I thought it would be super closed, but it's quite evolved. Definitely whole cluster. Some greenness. Good now but will be awesome in 5-10 years from now :)

Exactly what I would expect at this point. An interesting comparison with the recent 2012 as this is showing much more of the rich fruit of youth as well as the vintage. Very silky and layered fruit with the Vosne spice but it did seem to hit a point where it stopped opening up. I think I'll check back in a few years, but I expect that this will be another fine vintage of Chaignots.

Mugneret-Gibourg NSG Les Chaignots 2018. 93-94p

Dark red. Nose started modestly but blossomed with cherry and cream over 3 hours. Dark cherry, cranberry and a savoury streak, too. Sweetly balanced with suave tannin. Long finish. A raging young beauty!

Mugneret-Gibourg NSG Chaignots 2018. Søstrene leverer i 2018 også. Fortsatt elegant og parfymert. Mer formfull og mørkere i frukten en andre årganger, men dette er digg juice. Bra med stuffing i silkeføret. Bør lagre bra dette her. Nydelig finish - bra nok struktur til å holde seg fokusert. Flott lengde. Vokser vanvittig i glasset. 93p

2022 Excellent Burgundy Adventure; 10/31/2022-11/6/2022 (Burgundy): Expressive nose displaying opulent black fruit, blackberry concentrate, black cherry, licorice, lavender, caramel, grilled cep and mineral. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of concentrated black fruit, rich and opulent, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long opulent black fruit driven finish with grilled cep and licorice at the end. This is a very generous and opulent style of wine that is drinking really well in a very youthful way.

Poured by the glass from a Coravin’d bottle. Full, deep ruby. Explosive aromas of ripe red berry and moderate oak later joined by cooler scents of green. To be honest, I probably would have guessed New World Pinot from the first whiff. Medium weight. Lush, succulent red fruit and delightful spice that is somehow reined in by excellent acidity, light soil, and ripe tannins so that it seems round but not fat or heavy. At 4 years of age, it is still very much in its baby fat stage. It may or may not ever turn into more classic Nuits, but that glorious fruit will carry it forward for many years.

La Paulee NYC 2022 walkaround tasting Close to Vosne, but Nuits in character, very energetic wine, dense, 14 deg alcohol, yet does not show alcohol or heat, dense with serious dry tannins at the end and with a slight bitterness. In need of cellar time.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers - New York NY): Walk around tasting. This wine typically Vosne and NSG characteristics in a very elegant manner, but this vintage seems much more Nuits with firm black fruit, roasted meat and burly textures. Very powerful, but backward for now, better 2030 forward, 91-92 point potential.

Quickie drink in the neighbourhood. Tasted blind. Drank in Zalto Burg. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of fragrant violets, purple fruits, boysenberries, sweet cherries lightly candied. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, soft medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of light spice, boysenberries, purple fruits, black cherries, sweet dark red cherries. Long finish. Very good quality. Dark fruited but still exudes a transparent feel to the style. Probably due to the ripe vintage which I guessed correctly as 2018. Lovely nose. Quite drinkable now already, though more age development will certainly reap more rewards.

Dette er definisjonen av sexy! Parfyme, spice, candyshop og knallrød i frukten. Elegant og vakkert med stor intensitet. Mye lysere i uttrykket enn 2009. 94p

Barrel tasting at Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg (Vosne Romanee): Full nose of black cherry with some earthy musky tones not present in the Vosne wines though this still brings some Vosne spice. A step up in richness and power while retaining a silky, elegant composition. Expressive spice throughout. 92-94

Burgundy, Day 3 (Beaune, France): Barrel sample. A wine that shows both the terroir and the house style. There's attenuated spice here, but in exchange you do get a little more of a rustic earth profile. On the palate, this isn't as earthy and potent as you might expect from Nuits; you get more of a Vosne-like elegance to this wine (I'm not complaining). The tannins on the back end were still pretty intense, but time will certainly help sort that out.

Rather expressive on the nose, notes of dark fruit, hints of cherries, spices, crushed stones. Good concentration and ripeness, but not sweet or heavy with good acidity and depth. Nice tannic bite towards the mineral finish. Very nice. 91-92+

A generous yield in 2018 - 22 barrels produced (38hl/ha in 2018 compared to 18-20hl/ha in 2019). 50% new oak. Les Chaignots has great sun exposure. Good intensity of dark berries, fragrant spices and toast with structured backbone. (88/100)

Visit to Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg for a Tasting of 2018's from Barrel (Vosne-Romanée, France): Barrel sample. Deeply saturated. Green scents. Immediately rounder and richer than either of the Vosnes. Delicious, perfectly ripe red and black fruit, moderate level of acidity, gorgeous mouth feel, and an earthy finish that lasted 40 seconds. Unusually refined Nuits with great depth and decades of potential, which is not to say that it won't be enjoyable earlier.
