This is such a beautiful wine with incredible qpr. My last 750 (I have a few magnums remaining). The nose is scorched earth and anise, with dark cherry and some lovely floral notes. The palate is medium bodied (a nice balanced 13.5% abv), with fine but very supportive tannins and balanced acidity. The tannins dry the finish out just a hair.

Tasted after a 3 hour decant. Color: deep garnet with ruby edges Nose: generous aroma of berries, wood and ?bergamot Palate: nicely balanced tannins and acidity. Layered flavors of dark fruit and generous spice. This is really good right now and has another 2-3 years of being close to its peak. Enjoyed with tagliatelle and Bolognese.

Tangy dark red fruit, wet earth, and tobacco. The fruit is saturating, but with the transparency of classic Sangiovese. In a good place now, but the firm tannins and impeccable balance suggest that this has a long life ahead.

Was a bit closed up out of the bottle. Nicer after an hour of aur Tart cherry, but I wouldn't say sour. Perhaps some cinnamon and other spices here. Well balanced at this point. Bright and acidic, which stands up to robust dishes. Medium-long finish with nice tannins that show up late and stick around for a bit.

Medium garnet. Deep dark spice accented cherries. Ripe but not hot. Fruit on the palate is of a dried and slighly baked character but somewhat chewy; plenty of structure on here. Came together after 2 hours of air. Not memorable, but pretty solid experience.

This is outstanding. Still needs time to shed some of the drying tannins, but after a good amount of air, the beautiful lush fruit comes out. This is a great food wine now and may reach higher plateaus if the tannins and acidity balance out a bit more. Hold for now, or drink with rich Italian foods to balance out the tannins and acidity.

Pnp. Medium deep red. Deep Sangiovese nose of spice, cherry and plum. Great balance on the palate between fruit and tannins/acidity; silky tannins on the finish suggest this will age at least another 3-5 years. Nice wine in a less than stellar vintage. Was a lovely foil to lamb chops.

Pop and pour, but it really needed a couple of hours of air. For the first 90 minutes or so it was quite stern, with a bitter cherry fruit profile, and assertive, drying tannins. Getting closer to the two hour mark the structure loosened up, the fruit became riper, and the balance hit a point where it didn’t absolutely require food to be pleasurable drinking. Definitely going to wait a few years before the next bottle, or at least splash it into a decanter well before dinner.

Certainly comes off as young, drinks a bit tight, but still quite tasty. Plenty of gas left in the tank too.
Red berries, some pleasant sweetness to the nose, perhaps buttered cinammon roll. Palate is tart berry fruit, like just ripe firm young blueberry, red cherry. Everything in good balance on this.

100% Sangiovese sourced from Castelnuovo Berardenga, selected from the best lots. Macerated with the skins for two weeks, aged for 12-16 months in Slavonian oak casks and French barriques of 2nd and 3rd use. 13,5% alcohol. Tasted blind.
Somewhat translucent, luminous and still quite youthful black cherry color. Ripe and somewhat sweetish but otherwise pretty classically styled nose with aromas of wizened black cherries, some sour cherries, a little bit of tobacco and leather, light sunny notes of juicy dark plums, a woody hint of old oak spice and a touch of salty liquorice powder. The wine feels ripe, concentrated and somewhat solar yet not really sweet-toned on the palate with a medium body and quite dry flavors of sour cherries and cranberries, some ferrous notes of blood, a little bit of savory wood spice, light notes of tobacco, a hint of gravelly minerality and a touch of juicy dark plum. Despite its slightly sunny overall feel, the wine comes across as surprisingly classically styled, not too ripe or heavy. Even the structure is very much there, thanks to the high acidity and quite assertive, rather grippy tannins. The finish is savory, long and quite tannic with an intense aftertaste of crunchy cranberries and pronounced sour cherry bitterness, some sweeter notes of ripe dark plums, a little bit of tobacco, light earthy notes, a hint of gravelly minerality and a touch of dry, woody oak spice.
Fortunately I got to taste this blind, as I had my reservations on the warm Tuscan 2017 vintage. However, even if somewhat solar in its disposition, this turned out to be a thoroughly classic Chianti Classico all the same with the classic hallmark Sangiovese characteristics of almost bone-dry taste and rather prominent sour cherry bitterness, bright acidic spice and firm tannic frame. Instantly from the very first sniff I was pretty convinced we must be in Italy and the taste simply confirmed it. With its combination of high acidity and firm tannins I was split between Piedmont (Nebbiolo), Tuscany (Sangiovese) and Campania (Aglianico). I finally went with Tuscany, but was surprised to learn the wine wasn't 2016 as I guessed, but instead 2017. Excellent stuff with tons of upside, and terrific value at 22,20€.
This will sound mostly negative, but I enjoyed the wine.
Nose was muted, but had some BdM earthiness to it. No fruit aromas, which carried on the the palate. If there was any fruit to begin with, it has almost entirely faded. Maybe a hint of sour cherry and some black fruit like plum. Good acidity when with food, too much when alone. Strong drying mouthfeel.

I prefer it straight of the bottle; no decanting required (in my opinion), as it blows away some of the flavors.
Appearance: deep ruby color with hints of bricking and slight sediment
Nose: Medium/medium(+) flavors of red cherry and vanilla with notes of menthol and leather
Palate: Medium/medium(+) bodied, medium(+) acid, medium(+) tannins, dry, grippy yet smooth texture with medium(+) balance. Medium(+) just-ripe flavors of red cherry and potting soil with notes of cranberry and leather. Medium(+) complexity and a nice medium/medium(+) length red fruit and lightly earthy finish.
A great wine! Fantastic balance and wonderful red fruit with some earthy complexity. Would likely age well for several more years. In fact, it probably would do well to sit for at least a couple of years to be at its prime. Lovely!

A big, young CCR in need of some time. I agree with the poster below who suggests this could be a Brunello for all of its volume and ripe character, showing the warmth of the year. I've had only two 2017 CCRs, and it's not a vintage I expect to buy heavily. Of the two I've tried the Monsanto CCR is the better, more structured, and less solar of the two. I like this, but prefer the Monsanto, which is also cheaper. Still very good and happy to let this age a few years, maybe do a direct comparison of the two in 2025.

This wine is often very tight, but the 17 is very approachable night now with just a short time to breath in the glass. Darker side of Sangiovese - plummy flavors with some hints of cherry too and a little spice to tie it together. Will be really interesting to try in 5-8 years and see what it’s like with some tertiary flavors in there. But so drinkable now will be hard to wait. Really, really enjoyable

The nose is fresh and pure, with ripe cherry, tobacco, baked earth and leather notes. It is quite a deep and chewy wine. As you draw air into it, engaging florals come to the fore. It has excellent balance and drive and savoury flavours linger.
Red and black fruits with some cool menthol on the nose. Prominent acidity at this point on the palate. Also popped and poured, and like the ‘18 CC, at first glance I’m not in love with this.
Also checking this out two days later; and like the CC, I like this better today, but I don’t get the feeling here that this vintage has the potential of either ‘15 or ‘16. Still, nothing wrong with this, just maybe not up to that lofty standard.

Aerated to decanter for 90 minutes, still pretty tight. Some may be tempted to drink this today given its modest appellation and price; I say wait at least another year or two. Good freshness on a canvas of darker red fruits, and firm aromas and flavors of dried herbs, purple flowers and a touch of resin. This should be ideal, at least for my palate, from 2023-2030. recommended
Very dark. Still closed on the nose. Correct, really dressed up. On the palate: smooth start, pepper and hint of vanilla in between - long finish soft tannins - perfect in 5 years.
