Maintains deep ruby color and medium body. Black cherry fruit and cassis on the nose and palate with the plush tannins and mouth feel we expect from a Silver Oak Cab. Clearly past it's prime but I still enjoyed it over 2 nights.

Tannic, lost its fruit. Pulled from a temp and humidity controlled environment & still looked like the color was off. Second of 6 bottles. 1st was corked, although opened that one 11 years ago. Time goes by quickly. Wish I would have decanted it earlier.

Today, still fully tannic upon opening, rough and closed nose. Decanted gently and in the hours passing it opened up beautifully, became smooth with little tannin. All thoroughly loved this wine. Still fully berry flavored, mint oak tartness, a quaffable food friendly wine. Maybe you don’t want to quaff this one but you know what I mean. RTP

Little over the hill; but still very enjoyable wine. It's got that classic umami SO cab style, tannins have settled down nicely and good fruit remaining. Oriental spices are noticeable. Medium long finish. Drink now and for next several years. (Cork was frozen and basically had to be drilled out then the wine decanted.)

Consistent with earlier tastings, dark blackish garnet colored, medium bodied, black berry fruits with tones of ripe plum and black currants, accented with a layer of oak, with hints of tobacco leaf and creosote on the lingering finish.

Blind Tasting at Roy's: Blind at Roy's: Strawberry, tangy sour cherry, ripe red plum, roses, sweet cigar notes with iodine with a little oxidative dried leaf note which adds to the complexity; Almost sweet entry with Moderate + everything in structure and elevated tannins. A little dill/coconut from American oak made me think rioja. The oak was well integrated. I was stunned to find this was a '93 Silver Oak! This was showing so well and was utterly delicious. I thought it was a '90's Rioja b/c of the oak and cherry notes and high tannins. But the ripeness, and almost sweet entry should have led me to Napa Cab--the OTHER appelation where they use heavy doses of American oak. the other thing was that the alc. clocked in at 13!!! But to be fair, I don't think an older (more traditional) Rioja will show this much vanilla, caramel, coconut, as the oak should be used if not very used.

Opened at Flemings to pair with the Porcini Crusted Filet Mignon, nose of currants, black cherry fruit, and licorice, more of the same on the palate, medium/big body, at it's peak, mouth filling fruit, smooth, elegant, and rich tasting, medium/long finish. Enjoyed by three servers.

These early 90s cabs are hit or miss these days but this was splendid and maybe a touch on the downslope so I'm glad I drank when I did. Tannins are silky smooth and fruit still nicely there. Leather, graphite and cigar box - could be easily confused for a Bordeaux.

Popped & Poured at beginning of dinner and it had a strong "diaper" nose which blew off after a half hour. The bulk of fruit has dissipated leaving soft tannins and a rather narrow flavor profile. The finish was shorter but enjoyable. Certainly past its prime, this wine still has a bit of life left in it, especially for those who enjoy "mature" wines.

Received in shipment 9/2/12, opened that night, enjoyed with Flemings filet mignon steak at dinner, bright red color, touch of brick, bottle high neck fill, lovely aged cabernet perfume, hint of herbs, earth, and touch of green bell pepper on the nose, more of the same on the palate, mouthfilling, lovely balance, rich Silver Oak taste, finished with hints of vanilla, medium finish. Drink up and enjoy, this bottle tasted the same as the bottle opened and poured at Silver Oak this week for my birthday.

The good-ol-days.....still a soft spot in my heart these SO's....especially 91,92,93! This '93 bottling is doing just fine.....aged plum, currant, cherry pie fruit....good dose of good old American dill laced oak...dusty old cellar like. Silky smooth tannin, little sour skin bite, herbs, wintergreen tobacco, and a complex walnut skin........it's all here, but does show its age.....still a great nostalgic drink! Tasty, even holds up the next day. I will always drink these wines...as it brings me back to when I first started this obsession.

[Tasted double blind] Buttery, candied cherry, perfumy, spicy nose. Cherry cola on top of decent acid and cassis fruit. Finishes with some apparent oak and bitter oak tannin. Decent, my guess is 12 year old Cali Cab.

Drink now... and manage your expectations. This wine is past its peak. The fruit is subdued and to call the tannins soft would be an over-statement. I'm sure that at one time this wine terrific (that's probably why I stored it), but now it is less than perfect. Still plenty of currant, chocolate, and light berry flavors.

From what one might expect, this was suprisingly mellow and soft. The fruits are fading in a way that's not unpleasant but yields to dark chocolate and earthy tones for balance. That said, this will not last much longer -- a year tops.

Birthday pressie from Nate. This was a treat - not because it was superlativebut because I haven't had much of the older Silver Oak. An excellent bottle of CA cab, even if not as concentrated as, e.g., Montelena from the same vintage. Good fruit, oak was well-integrated. Should likely be drunk within the next 3-5 years, as doesn't seem likely to improve much from here.

I brought this wine along with a 2000 Leonetti Merlot for steak at the Metropolitan Grill in Seattle. Very different wines, and I enjoyed this one more. Lots of dill! Cherry, oak, quite smooth but with continued strength. This was great with the steak. I gave a sample to the sommellier and he agreed it was tasting well. I was surprised, given I purchased this wine on winecommune and had it delivered from California. Wine is resilient!

Opened in New Orleans with a terrific meal at Upperline. Nose was tremendous and typical of Silver Oak (pre 1998). Beautiful color. I was somewhat disappointed that the taste did not follow the other senses. Fruit was all but gone or so subtle that my palate was not refined enough to pick it up.

CT Group does 1995 Bordeaux w/ Blind Wine Mania @ Mike J: Dark in color with a rich cassis and oak nose. Screams California with it's buttery oak component. Wonderful spice adds complexity. No dill or green flavors which can sometimes show up in the Alexander bottling. Excellent.

Excellent.
